Very cool video. You explained it so well. My mom was a Taishan person and my dad was from Hoiping or Kaiping. Everything in the two dialects was similar with some exceptions in how certain words were pronounced. One other example was when they said the word for nose. In Taishanese, my mom would say bi or sounds like bee. My dad and his mom would say "vay." I know in Mandarin it's "bi zi." I believe. Standard Canto...it's "bay."

Thanks for explaining the difference in sounds between Kaipingnese and Taishanese. I speak Taishanese and only recently found out that Kaipingnese is not the same as Taishanese. I also believe we should do our best to preserve our dialects. Especially when people say we should just speak Mandarin or Cantonese.

Yess! I also want to preserve the last bits of our dialects before it vanishes away! Thank you for watching!

Love your video! It’s so hard to find information about Kaiping dialect in English … can you please do more video on Kaipingnese pronouns or other commons phrases. My dad family is from Kaiping/Sze Yup and I grew up hearing it… Thanks for your work!

I speak like broken Kaipingnese, and the words that I said in this video are the words I am very confident is saying. And I agree with you 100%, there isn't much content surrounding the Kaiping dialect here on RUclips. I did find a fair amount of Taishanese content, but there is a slight difference in how we pronouce the characters and words.
I don't want to mispronouce the words or phrases (I'm not a fluent speaker unfortunately) Thank you for leaving this comment!

I speak kaipingnese as well, but in my family we interchange between the "b" and "v" sound. I find it very interesting

We do that sometimes too! And for us, I think it's because we mix it up with Cantonese, like HK canto.

Is it a full replacement or are only some words getting Bs replaced with Vs?

Not all, but some particular words/characters.
