very cool. we need more disgusting dirty tones. modern productions sound too sanitized for my liking. i´ve also been playing around with octave fuzz. it´s so nasty, i love it.
Your comment about the pedals and the plethora of choices is so on point. In Stoner metal/doom the amount of amps and fuzzes that create more than acceptable tones at your disposal is truly overwhelming. In modern metal or deathcore everyone uses just a 5150 variant and an ts808/9 or similar mid hump boost into a v30 cab to create the same tight sound everyone is using. Its almost comical how similar they all sound. Fuzzes on the other hand have much more character to them that make them unique. Its very refreshing listening to stoner riffs because of that.
Now we're F'N cooking! You can keep the tight chuggs. These are the sounds I hail from back in the early 1990's. Great demo man. You just reminded me I need to get a few pedals, and turned me on to a few more! That meathead circuit at the end was wicked good! Cheers dude!
Man, I love the Rat, they can definitely get overloaded and gated sounding with high distortion levels, especially with high output pickups, i like to run a compressor in front of one to tame this. I think they work best into a lightly distorted, slightly gritty amp, but thats just my preference for doom tones, then stack up drive pedals (mostly just a muff and a rat).
Great to see Doom content here! God I love the Rat so much, sounds absolutely filthy. I've really started to prefer this sort of "rumbling" style of distortion, at least for this type of music, over the more typical "buzzsaw" metal distortion.
Can someone help me out? I'm a newbie (play bass, but I love the stoner sound)... is he plugging his guitar into the Dark Terror, then going to the pedal, then going to the amp? I'm at 12:10 of the video. (Thank you)
Glad to see that Electra back on video. Such a beautiful guitar. I know you've already kinda covered this in your review of your Marshall solid state combo, but would you ever do a Tone Engineer on Static X and similar "Active pickups into cheap amp" bands? I love their tones and would love to see how you'd tackle getting them
i like that you're using an electra. i love my electra, it's a studio zephyr with split phase/coil selector on the humbuckers. i always get compliments on the sound. bought in 87/88 for $250 at a pawnshop
I'm not into the Dark terror or the Rat but damn if you didn't squeeze out a bunch of killer tones that make me want one 🤣 I especially liked it with the Rat, it was thick and fuzzy but it was also percussive on the palm mutes which I love. I have a Micro Dark I haven't played in ages so maybe I should get a Rat and see if I can squeeze out anything in the ballpark haha. I have a 1960A cab loaded G12 T 75's as well which should help. Awesome content as always, would love to see more doom metal stuff as well :)
I once owned the boss HM2. seriously couldn’t get a decent tone out of it...maybe with today’s cool and inspiring videos like this there was a chance 👍....🤘🙌
Unrelated but any plans to take a look at or review the Deadweald Duality DX? TS style and TCIP style boost that can have the boosts sequentially feed into each other, and has a Zuul/Decimator style gate built in that can be used in four cable method or isolated just for the gate!
I think the Dark Terror alone has all the gain I'll ever need. Sometimes, a Behringer Super Fuzz and a Boss Flanger to follow in Monolord's tonal path, (Like Empress Rising). Also have a Carvin MTS 3200 BIG tube amp. That thing needs more pedals than the Orange does! I got MANY pedals, many I don't even use. Just nice to have around if I hear some tones I might want to mimic.
Hey this was interesting! IMHO you should try turning the Master up all the way if you're going full on Doom. You want as much power amp distortion as possible with minimum preamp gain.
I'm not a big fan of this amp's power section or I would. I love a cranked 50-100 watt amp with EL34s for these tones, but I can't say the same about these EL84s.
Great video, very ni- Yo, is that a Valvestate behind you? Can we have a video on that full of Death riffs plz Also regarding the Boss pedal, I remember searching for a very long time for a way to get a tone like Arkham Witch on one of their demos. I didn't want to believe what I was hearing when it turned out the ol' Metal Zone got me the closest. Should not be underestimated!
I'll either get a dark terror or the rocker15 I play a lot of doom but also tighter sounds and between the two I'm really hesitant, are they worth it or not?
New here. Im more into sound design than guitar. I do yse a lot of pedals and love chasing great tone. So we're distant cousins. I build a lot of my own units and also not ashamed of my Behring HM2 or Metal Xone, Super Fuzz, Vintage Delay etc. I think I may have landed. I have a digital power amp and a 1x12" cab. I want one of the Joyo True Tones to use as a preamp, the Metal Zone doesnt do it, great eq, but, it isn'tactually a preamp. Sounds too thin., I often do jangly garage punk but also drop dooming. I was thinking the Oxford could do harsh highs, woofy lows and has a few cleans as a pedal platform. I think this video has convinced me.
I got a Mooer Black Secret which is a Rat with a switchable Turbo Rat mod and it's great!!! I paid €40 for it used. But my very expensive dream is the DBA Fuzz War which is my favorite, but I can't afford to get it... :D
There's another Doomy sound I love that's a RAT into a basic Marshall (or any amp that gives you that typical Marshall sound) with a humbucker or p90s. It's more distortion on the edge of fuzz, thetes a few tones with this but they are all somewhat similar, not Sabbath early, more Melvins. You might already have this gear lying around? Just saying. If you can pick up a 2nd hand faded SG or some bargain guitar of a Doomy vain for a good price, then you're off to the horses with this (and it'll do other genres too).
This is awesome stuff. I'm a gear head and tone nerd myself. I run analogue pedals for my bass and guitar on gigs. Haven't been able to tinker with multi effects unit, until recently, and now I'm freakin' obsessed with it, not to use for gigs but for the heck of emulating rigs patch after patch haha. So I have a Zoom G3X and it claims to sound "better" and I hear that it does, not Kemper level but still great nonetheless. I have been able to produce acceptable sounds and even came close to my live rig. However, I can't seem to emulate a fuzzed or dirty octave up using this thing. Green-Ringer-esque type of thing. It does have fuzz face and "octaver" modules. I dunno if it is because it is digital so it can't track or maybe my unit is "broken"? Anyone here have gone deeper into this stuff? Could use a little advise. Again, I don't intend to use it live, just having a little fun off an old multieffects processor. Cheers!
To me... the noise level in almost al of the "boosted" clips was unbearable... like a giant pod of french fries making ghosts notes next to the mike cab....
Stoned Jesus as an example riff?!?! Absolutely love the video dude!!
very cool. we need more disgusting dirty tones. modern productions sound too sanitized for my liking. i´ve also been playing around with octave fuzz. it´s so nasty, i love it.
We need more dark terror content from you my man.
O
You said it 🤘😎
Far out the Rat/DT combo sounded AMAZING. Perfect mix of sludgy lows and crusty top end.
If I could have only one guitar channel to watch it would be this one. Realest man on the tubes

I! Am the Mountaaaaain!
This is the best I've heard any terror sound
That was my favourite of the Dark Terror video's. Keep the amp and never forget that "Tony Iommi is your friend."

I’ve played in the shit my whole life & I love this greasy cesspool fuzz tone!
Dude, you killed it on Under The Sun. That riff is so overlooked in my opinion.

Truly enjoyed this one - great tones and information. Now I've got some new ideas to explore in my rig.
This is a very in depth informative video on this topic! You just go deeper into all the gear tech then most videos about this stuff. Thank you!
I like that you play different riffs for each one makes me play guess that riff in my head each time
Hi! Do you know what the very first riff he played here was?? @ the 00:18 second mark??

Busting out the Dozer riffs! Hell yeah man🤘
"Big Muff on bath salts" got you a subscriber!
Damn right!! John seagohn and him give the most informative videos on gear..period!!! God bless them both
I love my Orange DT. Every time I think of selling it, I come back and watch this video - it keeps from making a grave mistake!
Can someone help me out? I'm a newbie (play bass, but I love the stoner sound)... is he plugging his guitar into the Dark Terror, then going to the pedal, then going to the amp? I'm at 12:10 of the video. (Thank you)
First time i have ever heard someone play that riff besides on the record. Love stoned jesus!
Heard the stone Jesus riffs and thought I was the only person who literally Actually like stoned Jesus. But this dude on RUclips is killing it..
Just gathered up my supplies. And just booked my first wedding gig. Wish me luck. 🤞
Thanks man I got the same tone on my orange terror stamp.
when you played the southern discomfort riff i was like holy shit
Glad to see that Electra back on video. Such a beautiful guitar.

Great tones, riffs and infoi! Love it!
Kudos on the Dozer fiffs .. what a badass choice to sample.
Best compact rig I’ve used. Reeves 1x12 12 watt combo with a DAM Meathead.
Your electra guitar is beautiful.

can this do the sane?
Pretty it can it’s a dark terror but smaller but ss power amp
I bought a terror head and it came today because of you’re demo and am very stoked thank you for sharing you’re knowledge

You need to get you’re hands on an emperor cabinet preferably one that has a 1x12 and 1x15 cab and demo the tones , you’re tones are awsome
Now that's some DOOM right there! \m/
Never heard of a fet booster. I've got the Micro Terror so cheers for the GAS
Where would you place the EQ.. in the fx loop or after the guitar
Would I be able to get that same sound with those same settings on the orange terror stamp?

Awesome!!! Try a LPB-1 boosting an Acapulco Gold.
I'd love this channel even without the doom content, but fuck I love me some doom riffage
under the sun got me to buy it
Also, get an FZ2 clone, behringer fz300 does it cops the sound perfectly. Electric wizard for days.
What p90 do you have in the electra?
Was that a crowbar riff on the RAT?
Man how loud was the room at 5-6 volume? I can't take mine past 3. The neighbors will call the police lol
HM2 Forever!
Anyone tried these tones with a micro dark? I'd be interested in the dark terror because of the actual power tubes, but I'm playing lower volumes.
Do you actually understand how loud the orange micro dark is? It's a tonal beast at its size. You will doom my friend.
@@questioneverything3332 I had a micro dark, but I didn't try the stuff he did. It has more to do with the voicing and SS vs powertubes.
