I'm super appreciative that my wife is so patient with my moderate to moderately severe hearing loss. She repeats herself and never gets annoyed or impatient. A total saint.

My husband and I have been married for 40 years. I have been hard-of-hearing for most of life, however, I didn't realize this until COVID and masks. I used to constantly mishear my husband and say to him that he was swearing and he would say he hadn't. When I got my hearing aids, we laughed so much because I had to apologize profusely for the numerous times I had wrongly accused him. As you can probably guess, I have an angel for a spouse and he is my best, and most patient friend. He and I now, realize that I have been reading lips for most of my life or running in to stand in front of him or anyone for that matter when I misunderstood them. I honestly didn't realize how bad it was until people started masking up. I am so thankful for my hearing aids. They have changed my life!

I’m so happy to hear you have such a patient and loving spouse! I too have had to apologize many times for mishearing and acting on incorrect assumptions.
I’m happy to hear your hearing aids have helped! I love my hearing aids too!

The other half finally understands my exhaustion with not hearing. With that, the understanding of my lip reading fell into place for her. I had explained that facing me helps eliminate extra processes my gray matter had to decipher.

It’s a great day when the significant other has the “a-ha!” moment! That’s good to hear she is understanding.

Hello, Thank you for your videos, they help me learn about my hearing loss. My 13 year old son like to pace and when talks to me it hard to hear him correct. I’m always telling to stand still and look at me when talks to me. I’m also learning about my Autoimmune disease and how my Autoantibodies (ANA) from my Homogenous (Lupus)are very high. Also my second Autoimmune disease Ankylosing Spondylitis a Inflammatory Disease also effects my hear, and cause my ear to get inflamed (swollen). I also have severe tinnitus and vertigo from my disease. I’m see a Rheumatologist. I told my hear Audiologist, about my Autoimmune disease and she just doesn’t understand why it effects my hearing. I ask for different device that don’t go all the way in my hear and she told my that the mold ones still go down my ear tunnel like my other ones. Any my question is, do you know or heard any one lose their hearing from Autoimmune disease? Showing I have AIED from my two Autoimmune diseases. I just had my yearly hearing test and again I lost some more of my hearing, so she had to program my hearing aids again. Scary. I think the Audiologist doesn’t believe a Autoimmune Disease would cause hearing lost, so when I see her she ignores me on my issues. It hurts my ears when my ear buds are all way in my ears, which they set further in the hear then a mold, (I think), I not a expert. When ears swell in the canal and your ear buds set down in the canal it hurts. I thought maybe the molds or the out side molds would be less hurtful when the ears swell up. Love ❤ your videos.

Simul’s response seems helpful, I hope it is for you.
Having a validating and understanding audiologist is important. Do you have options to go to another?

@kimwilliams1812: There are autoimmune diseases that can cause hearing loss. E. g. some forms of vasculitis. I am not a medical professional, but in my understanding the outer ear canal (where the ear mold is to be placed) cannot get swollen. There is just bone and a thin layer of skin. Nothing that can swell. Maybe you can talk to your audiologist to get a more comfortable ear mold. Best wishes!
