From a Scot this is just breathtaking , love to our Celtic cousins 🏴🏴
Fellow Scot here. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. And I'm definitely not crying. Beautiful.
The Scots can ram it
Aye ❤
I'm croatian choir singer, I sung polyphony and gregorian chants. I'm telling you there is no nation in this world that can sing so well as Welsh people can.
What a wonderful compliment that is Tomislav .
Thanks Tom
I love gregorian chants too
What you can sing is just beautiful, I heard it.
To Tomislav
I remember those days. No need for a soloist, or any assistance. The singing erupted from the stands and has never been bettered. You can't stage manage the true feeling of my people. And I was there!
Greetings to your celtics brothers from Brittany ⚪⚫ Breizh Cymru 🏴
How do you get a whole stadium to sing in tune? make sure they are all welsh
That's why Wales is called The Land of Song.
I’m Scottish and love my Rugby but this is brilliant! 🏴🏉
Very well put. It is always a treat to hear a Welsh crowd singing what is probably the best National Anthem in the world.
To be borne Welsh is a privalidge , not with a silver spoon but with a song in the heart and poetry in the soul and a rugger ball to hand !!!!! Cymry-Am -Byth xxx

I love the respectful manner of the French players - standing at attention the whole way through.
Anton Potgieter like all rugby teams whenever there are anthems sung anywhere, ever?
Thank you
I'm French, and I also learned the Welsh anthem in order to sing it.
Thanks , Well, old others times, with respectful manners. I am born in 1968
as an irish man, can i say this is the best version of my favourite anthem. so much passion and pride,
Wales your have the best voices in the world. ❤
Beautiful. There is something about Welsh songs that touch the heart and reminds you of the past.
Way before my time ( my mum was only 6 when this aired) it brings shivers down my spine and the only anthem that brings tears to my eyes.... welsh and proud xx
Bendigedig, cariad
I don't no why but I can't listen to our anthem without welling up since my mum died . and my mother died 20 years ago when I was 18 and still to this day when the 6 nation's is on bang on cue ha ha best anthem bar none cymru am byth
Mam is Welsh. Mum is English
I lived two streets back from the houses shown, it didn't matter where you were in the city you didn't need a TV or radio to know when the match started or Wales scored a goal, you could hear the singing or the cheers everywhere, it gave the city a unique charm!
Wow so fantastic 😊
Goal?
Seeing that crowd as the camera panned up to the flag, brought tears to my eyes.
The translation of what the commentator is saying:
"Some furious demonstrations... We are telling me right now that the nationalists are demonstrating violently against the "God save the Queen". It's the first time we see that here at Arms Park. And here is the "Land of my Fathers", and now everyone is singing! So that's really great! Never seen that at Arms Park. Here is the Welsh national anthem. Then, the camera is fixing on the Welsh flag. We heard this wonderful choir which was rising to the sky, the Arms Park's grey sky, the Welsh national anthem."
I very much doubt if I can add anything original here, but being born in London to Irish ☘️ Parents naturally I follow Ireland, but I have to say,I consider it a pleasure and a privilege to listen to the Welsh,Scots and French Anthems! And this Welsh rendition is fantastic!!...They're always sung with such passion and emotion!!
And this is exactly why as a teenaged Englishman I always supported Wales in the Home internationals...... that, and the fact that Wales epitomised a rugby nation - tough and fair.
I also think that this is the beauty of the internet and youtube, we can watch old rugby videos from the 60s !
My late soulmate ,my childhood friend Jon Lee ( original Feeder's drummer ) told me that poetry & music were very important to Welsh ! We met through my songs .He loved my songs's lyrics & melodies so much ! He also told me about ' My Fanwy' was his dad's favourite .Jon spoke Welsh ! This was the year he was born . I love Welsh's anthem ,the most beautiful & dramatic anthem that really echoes in people's hearts !😍 It doesn't discriminate who we are ! I am Japanese, but I do love Welsh anthem the best !👍 💜💜💜🥁🐉🎵🎤🎶🏴💕💞
Booing God save the Queen
😏😉 Nice1 lads🇮🇪
Doesn't matter how many times over many years I've heard this, Still makes hair on my neck stand up
@Sewin2 I'm not Welsh mate but I found it spine tingling. The Welsh team at the time must have played with such incredible pride before that amazing crowd. The Hwyl behind an attacking Wales at the Arms park and Barry John there at the time to lead it all.....epic sport.
As a proud Englishman, I think that the Welsh have every right to not have GSTQ imposed upon them as it's interpreted as being English and therefore a threat to the Welsh existence, I also feel that we as the English should not have GSTQ playing before sports/cultural events as it's not English but British, I feel nothing for Britain other than it's an outdated political union and believe we should have maybe Jerusalem or Land of Hope & Glory, something to reflect our people and our land!
I agree mate GSTQ is British not English you definitely need your own because I don't think any of us in Britain feel British we are all independent countries
@Mickey Finn
As an Englishman, I have no say in your anthem, but Scotland the Brave was splendid and stirring.
Jerusalem? In Israel?
@@goattm2 Palestine rather
@@christophertucker4917 Yeah, you are correct.
A bloke in a rural pub in Australia just gave me a belt buckle, which reads... British by birth, Welsh by the grace of God.
Thank you ❤🎶🏴😁👍 and Thank You Lord ✝️ for the Tingles 🙏❤✝️
St David's day 2013, 45 years on, and this is the best rendition i've ever heard. Just listening to it reduces me to tears.

en fait oui, c’est vrai, mais nous sommes aussi notre propres identité nationales, cultures, langues, et il faut célébrer ces différences. de toute façon, les gallois sont les vraies Brittaniques, pas les anglais ou les irlandais.

More and more English are now in Wales which is likely to make that harder.

Bro Gozh ma Zadoù (Breton for Old Land of My Fathers) is the national anthem of Brittany. It is sung to the same tune as that of the national anthem of Wales, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, and has similar words. The Cornish anthem, Bro Goth Agan Tasow, is also sung to the same tune.
Interesting, I did not know that! As a fellow Scot, you might be interested to know that there is a 1931 recording of Land of My Fathers from British Pathe also filmed at a Cardiff Five Nattions rugby match, where the Scots reply with Auld Lang Syne. Surprisingly high quality audio considering the age.
The Cornish anthem is Trelawny
Thank you- I never knew that. It's a grand tune.
The Welsh anthem sounds like a professional choir. Everyone is on pitch. That never happens in England
Only the players are on pitch.
@@gavinthomas7375 He means pitch in musical terms. Not football.
@@vincenta_2 It's a bad dad joke mun😁
It always gives me a buzz to hear the national anthem sung at Arms Park . There's something about it that is far , far better then sung anywhere else !
I'm a proud english man (with welsh on my dad's side) got to admit i agree with you land of hope and glory gives me goosebumps as does land of my fathers
After such an anthem,I think welsh players could die on the ground!!
the same emotion 45 years after have seeing these magics saturdays of 5 nations matches.
Thanks to the welsh people to have giving me such a great moment.
why is it that the Welsh sing so well, I don't know of any other nation that sing as well as the Welsh and i'm from Australia
Donkey Gobbler A singing voice is great weapon, it brings men to tears and can even stop a battle for a short time..

The best anthem in the world (I say as a proud half-Welshman)
Loved going to rugby when it was an amateur sport and in black & white.
This brings tears to your eyes!
God bless this beautiful country. Blessed to be Welsh.
Yma o hyd
just as brilliant then as now as it always was...land of my fathers amen brothers and sisters
The anthem was only sung in Wales when Wales played away God save the queen was sung till 1984 when it was reconised by sporting world
i'm from Brittany (celtic country of fucking france), and we have the same anthem !! in local language (brezhoneg) of course. when there is a match between wales and france, i'm not for france.
Merci!
As a long-time fan of the tournament (1967), it was in the 60s and 70s that I heard the most beautiful Land of My Fathers. There was a kind of meditation in that song, the sobriety of the Welsh people gave it an extraordinarily solemn dimension, there was something grandiose emanating from the Arms Spark, quite unlike what happens now where people don't miss an opportunity to be seen by the cameras with no respect for their anthem, its words or its song.
These days, it's not supporters who are present, but clowns with paint jobs and ridiculous hairstyles, whose egos are matched only by their imbecility and disrespect.
In recent years, the end of the anthem has been changed, giving the yellers a chance to express themselves.
What a far cry from the magic of the 60s and 70s.
I've always thought that the tournament couldn't be what it is without those moments of magic that will forever be etched in legend.
Over the last few years, changes in behaviour in rugby stadiums, where we've seen a sort of Americanisation of supporters, whose lamentable attitudes are relayed by TV cameras, have contributed to completely undoing the magic of the tournament.
O tempora O mores
Thank you Stéphane for this comment, but I still find the observation a little harsh. Of course, things have changed but it seems to me that respect and emotion still reign in the stadiums today. Particularly with the anthems, we must not forget that Flower of Scotland has only been sung since 1990, that the music stops quickly to allow the audience to bring an extra layer of soul to the players through the force of singing. As for the cameras on the clowns in the stadium, it's an epiphenomenon that should not be taken too much into account. Likewise, mixing and sharing between opposing supporters remains essential and with as much depth as ever. In my opinion, from my little experience.
Best anthem in the world is the welsh national anthem
An independent wales will soon be here
how amazing is this clip... a packed arms park singing loudly...
There was nothing like that anthem being sung at the Arms Park. You had to be there to hear it properly as it echoed around the stadium
J'ai vu le match en intégralité : extraordinaire.
I was there!
Old Bastard!
Mike Guy hello you lucky bastard. God bless
By the way I was there to But a young boy who did not appreciate the anthem until later
i WAS THERE IN THE NIGHT TO WATCH THE DOGS, OH LORD PLEASE BRING THOSE DAYS BACK LOL
Breizh ma bro
No brass band. No proffesional singer. Just the voice of a passionate Welsh crowd.
I think many people misinterpret the nationalistic spirit here . It is not that the game of rugby in any way represents the Welsh people as a nation . It is more that the language of Cymru gets heard loud and clear on an international stage .
absolutely incredible!!
Best rugby ground ever
cardif arms park none better
True. Kiwis love that ground. It's not a dive for sure.
I like the shot at the end where a man replaces his hat, having removed it for the singing of the national anthem. How times change - you probably would not see that these days.
lol, the taffs gave the old hun plenty of stick, best anthem in the world
It is called PASSION. We are Welsh, We are Proud of being Welsh and we are Passionate about our Beautiful Land. The fewer english in it, the more beautiful it is.

As welshman our anthem is best if I was born in any other country apart from Wales my life never be the same
Wow wonderful

Really ? Wouahouh !!!
This is before my time but it still surprises me that they played GSTQ at Cardiff Arms Park. I only ever remember the proper Welsh anthem being played here. The notes, in French, suggest that this was the first time Land of my Fathers ( I cant spell it in Welsh) was played before a match. Is that true? I certainly remember all through the 70s that GSTQ was played as Scotland's anthem in Murrayfield, where it received much the same accompaniment from the Scots crowd as it did from the Welsh here :)
+Marty Molloy The commentator certainly says it was the first time that God Save the Queen recieved that reception. He then says that the crowd signing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau had 'never been seen', but the way that he puts it gives me the impression that it hadn't previously been sung with such gusto. The commentator was very impressed.
I believe they only sang GSTQ when a member of the Royal family was attending. The first time Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau was sung was 1905 against the touring All Blacks. Apparently they sang it in response to the New Zealand Haka. I may be wrong, but I think this was the first time a National Anthem was sung at a sporting event.
I think it was the first time it had been broadcasted on television.
@@ninianpark1329 Absolutely correct in every detail! Wales on that day established the custom of a country singing its national anthem at the outset of international sporting events. Playing the same type of adventurous, entertaining, skilled and daring rugby as we play today, we also beat the All Blacks on that day, where England had failed dismally the previous week. So not only were we innovative and creative in establishing the singing of national anthems, we were also the first European team to beat New Zealand. Also, between 1900-1910, we won the triple crown six times, placing us in the same position we hold today--the dominant force in European rugby. On the question of whether Wales could stand as a nation on its own, I say a country's most important resource is its people-- and Wales punches considerably higher than its weight in all fields. Of course we could stand alone! Boot the arrogant, whingeing English out today! I'm sick of them.
i find welsh people to be generally much nicer and much less arrogant than the english, they also know class warfare and tend to be hardcore on the left, like the scots in some ways.....the english on the other hand.....
Goosebumps fantastic
We have in brittany choose in thé 19 th century thé same hymn called hère " old country of my fâthers !!!!Llove Wales !!!! Im breton not french ...
become in your persevering confidence, knowing who you are and where you are from, an object of obsession in the eyes of the less confident and more insecure world.... in the observant, flustered and envious eyes of karezza777, for example. we know who we are and where we are from and where we would be if we had to go back from whence we originated- the British Isles. Cymru Am Byth! This assuredness, and the deep-set eyes and other good looks, allow us to be magnanimous, and not racist, to all!

Land of our fathers
It does not matter whether you are Gwynhenseg, Ddyfedeg, Powyseg or Gwyneddeg, we are all finally united as one proud nation, after so much infighting and betrayal from the Saxons
@stuy265
I totally agree with you.Five nations live for such moments like "land of my father",it is part of the magic feature of the tournament.
I have never heard anthem song with such enthousiam particularly in 70' because it was known here in France that most of fan's worked hard in mines.
Today I don't feel same enthousiasm because spectators are in stadium to see themselves on screen.
The values are not the same ,the anthem is not song with same spirit like 70's.
o' tempora ,o'mores!
There are a great number of male voice choirs in Wales I think. More recently the enchantment of female voices have been added which was the missing component.
Shame to say I cant speak welsh! BUT proud to say I am welsh.
Can someone play this to that crappy choir before today's match they may get the tempo right instead of finishing 5 minutes ahead of every one else glory days at the Arms Park miss the singing c'mon wales
bernice wigginx the sound echoed around the stadium which meant that the band and choir on the one side always finished before the opposite side. It was weird but beautiful to hear. I know because I was there
Best without the band or those given a mic, no matter who it is
Wow! Is there any video on here of this?
i have american and french nationality and i have to say that this event is more moving than any time i have heard either of my national anthems. the whitsling over the god save the queen then the singing of your own anthem.... perfect......
Every time l come on this l have tears! I live in England l like the English but l love Wales and yes we can be arses but we just are well better!!!😁
