  • Step-by-step instructions for replacing a torn seat cover on large Sea Doo jet ski. We reupholstered a 2012 Sea Doo GTi 155 SE using a semi-custom kit from Hydro-Turf. In this video you get to see the entire process from removing the old, torn jet ski seat cover to installing a new vinyl seat cover on the Sea Doo.
    This job will take a few evenings, particularly if it is your first time. We tried to follow the instructions provided with the new covers, but I'm not a professional so there were a few challenges and lessons learned along the way.
    If you are interested in trying this project yourself you can find the exact seat cover we used at www.hydroturf.com.
    Good luck!

    Finally...found time to publish again! Sorry for the lousy sound at the beginning. It was over 100 F (38 C) outside and I would have felt terrible turning off the air conditioner for the entire afternoon. In the end, the covers came out great. Thanks for watching!

    Have been doing upholstery work for over 40 years and you are absolutely correct in the point that the staple gun must be used parallel to the work surface. I am in the middle of recovering my daughters SeaDoo seat and I am making her new cover. I actually wish I had just order her a replacement as I am old enough and experienced enough to know better 🥺🙄😳🤣😂 but here we go! I have recovered almost everything I can think of and using an old cover for a pattern is tricky. Did is shrink or is it stretched....yup probably both in different places. It’s kind of like a goat rodeo. A little bit of fun, a whole lot of the unknown and a boatload of crazy.......

    U did a great job re covering those seats. I've done a pair and they suck....wish I saw your video first. Although I'm convinced it's not as much your technique as your positive outlook that makes it look so easy!

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  4 года назад

      Brian makes a good point. If you haven't worked with vinyl (or any fabric for that matter) it might be helpful to start out with a less complex project like re-covering some bar stools or a motorcycle seat. If that's not an option, try to work in a warm area so you can stretch the fabric enough to pull it tight and work around corners. The first time I re-covered a seat I ended up pulling the staples out and starting over. Thanks for the feedback Brian.

  • @earthelder2065
    @earthelder2065 Год назад

    You should use 22 or 21 gauge stainless steel staples that is standard in upholstery staples. T50 makes bigger holes and is hard to take out when someone has to take the cover off again. It is good to have a "long nose stapler" to get in those tight areas. You guy's did a great job it being your first time.

    Hey Steve did you ever figure out how to fix the metal "wear" ring on the lime green Yamaha? Hello I like your videos and you are a funny guy like me I have a 97 spx seadoo it runs great and can keep up with the new seadoo spark. It just started fouling the rear cylinder spark plug with in five minutes of a ride what do you think it is and is it worth spending money on it. Any help would be great thanks

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  4 года назад +1

      I’m going to assume that you are running the same plug type in both cylinders, NGK BR8ES or something close to that. See if you have good compression in both cylinders. You can try swapping position of the plug wires (they. both fire at the sane time) and see if the problem moves to the other cylinder. Another suspect is a carb that needs to be cleaned or rebuilt.

    • @scottmckenzie11
      @scottmckenzie11 4 года назад

      Thanks for responding I been running BR9ES and the spark plug wires are to different lengths so I will have figure out how to switch plug wires like you suggested. And yes the carbs could probably use a good cleaning? Had the ski for 12 years always ran great. Thanks again I wish you were my neighbor .

    The most important information to those crazy enough to attempt such a feat is make sure you have 4 way stretch vinyl and not regular marine vinyl!!! It only has one way stretch and will not work. Yup I found that one out the hard way many years ago. It doesn’t last as long but it’s the only product to use. It also has a surface that keeps the rider from sliding off when they get the seat wet for safety reasons. Good luck for those brave souls who wish to have a goat rodeo with their watercraft.

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  3 года назад

      Good pointer Johnette! If you buy a pre-made cover from a reputable source you shouldn’t have to worry about the fabric but if you are starting from scratch and making your own design it’s good to give your fabric sample a tug in each direction and see if it gives evenly. I have to admit, though, a goat rodeo sounds like something I would like to watch! 😂

    This is scary watching individuals who are not professional upholsterers.... you are not using the correct upholstery gun and you had too much air pressure. Way too many staples... this should be a video of what not to do!
