This entry will demotivate the Indian private sector.
Why? We are being told all mobile infantry systems were designed and developed by DRDO and Tata/Mahindra are only producing them from blueprint. They will also make Stryker so they will not lose anything. My suspicion is that forces are fed up with DRDO and DPSUs in general and that Kestrel was developed 80% by Tata. DRDO was brought in to add its chappa and justify its existence, just like in ATAGS. In the end, we will need thousands of such wheeled and tracked systems and 500 Strykers are nothing. Tata and Mahindra will end up making thousands more of their own vehicles. Interesting developments.
@@chilarai1 it's not because they are fed up with DRDO, it's just that striker has a already mounted guns that can be used for attacking unlike Indian armoured vehicles which are designed for transport only.

Stryker vehicle maybe combat approved, but it is way more ancient than WhAP. Stryker doesn't come with Blast proof Hull, V shaped Hull came late after USA left Afghanistan.
Also the engine is underpowered for Ladakh, So you know what I mean by it.😊
And also striker is not amphibious
Plus two US allies Canada & Israel avoided it.

No country becomes a power by importing weapons. All major powers own their own systems be it Russia, China, US, Europe. If you want to be a major power grow some self respect and confidence.

Something's very fishy is going around in our army's procuring department. Previous year, a lot of machine guns (or guns) were required and there were two competitors. One was Indian and the other from switzerland. Despite offering everything better than that of switzerland at lower price, the order was placed for the inferior one. And now this. I think some officials are working as double agent who are constantly offering contracts to foreign manufacturers despite having lower priced yet more powerful alternatives available in India. SOMETHING'S VERY FISHY!!

Stryker concept is quite revolutionary. Modular design allows quick swap in / swap out (relatively) of turrets for different roles, including anti-tank and AA guided missiles, EW, light guns, and medium / heavy guns (120 - 150 mm) on a common wheeled platform with some troop carrier capability. Of course it's hull protection and non-amphibious nature are deterrents in mine infested and desert / swampy conditions, but it can be an important asset in Ladakh to augment light tanks. WhAP and Kestrel are great concepts to replace the BMP-2 APC. I don't think the two requirements overlap at all.
If govt selects Stryker then best they discard the slogan "Atmanirbhar Bharat". What is the point of R&D and effort by DRDO and pvt companies when Army wants only foreign products

Tata Mahindra se shayad commission na mila ho. The government is pushing for Increasing Indian products, but seems some in the system are still on foreign defense payrolls.
It's not just about commission it's about the lack of knowledge about tech-driven platforms due to which they lack forward thinking. Overall their procurement board lacks skills required for requisition, acquisition & evaluation...Please see their RFIs and RFPs they don't even know how to formulate robust requirements.

When indigenous options are available, why should IA even test Stryker in Ladakh and in Rajasthan. If both TATA kestrel and Mahindra WhAP are better than Stryker, then there is no point in using Stryker for benchmarking also. Seems Indian government is succumbing to US pressure. After Jack Sullivan met Ajit Doval recently, the news around Stryker seemed to have gained momentum.

It is true that we have developed so many weapon systems. But none of them are taken participate in war.
We have to keep mix and match of both foreign and indigenous weapons.
In 1999 was the last war.
So we cannot take risk of loss of our army personnel and defeat.
Only we have to keep in mind that because of MRFA our Tejas MK2, because of SU 57 our AMCA, because of GE engine our Kaveri engine, Because of MQ9 or Drishti our Rustom or Because of S80 our P76 etc should not put in back burner.

I guess mahindra lost in proper lobbying. Mahindra and tata lobby in the central government because they are og manufacturers and have a strong lobby in central government but that only gets them quick orders for central forces like crpf but army has a very autonomous system of selection. They only shortlist a few and pass a document for the pm to sign and approve. The ministry plays the role of piggy bank. They can recommend and even add roadblocks but in the end the decision comes to the army where Russia and the USA have a very strong lobby. Russia because of its past control and contracts and usa because it has a ton of money to throw around. Mahindra and tata need an army lobby.
In my opinion Indian Army will evaluate Stryker evaluate it's usp and limitations and implement that in our kestrail and Whap and get a better product at less price

Indian private defence players should invest in the US, so they can make profit. Especially ones aimed for the army's procurement purposes. Airforce and Navy are much better in having visionary procurement and business friendly plans.
In the video please provide brief on what is Amphibious system in one line. So that we have an idea what we are missing in TATA and Mahindra

Tata Kestrel & Mahindra WhAP are both good systems result of domestic R&D by Indian Pvt companies. Rejecting these systems may will demotivate pvt companies from doing domestic R&D...
Evaluation need not be purchase, but yes, in some ways Striker is a proven platform which cannot be said about either Mahindra or Tata Kestrel. But I honestly believe that we should go only for the indian products as they have been developed and updated as per actual need of the army. If IA wants to buy some should be limited to max 100 and should be given to strike corps.
Hopefully just using this as a point of reference and comparison against WHAP.
It's absolutely surprising to see the Indian armed forces are showing interest in Stryker when such type of vehicles are already being manufactured by Indian firms. There has to be some kind of lobbying from the American firm to procure the order for Stryker. What is important for India is to ask for help from USA for critical engine technology for our AMCA and not transfer of technology for Stryker.😮😮

It is not that Indian made weapons system are inferior to other competitors but sometimes we have to look beyond in the field of geopolitics. I felt that having American weapons system in highly tensed Himalayas will put more weight in posturing. Reliability/ trust of america is known but at the current situation, their interest and ours overlaps. And there is no harm going along as long as it serves our overall interest. You see, recently American bipartisan poltician have come extramile to meet Dalai Lama in India.
