    I clearly remember having listened some times to a very old LP from this band in 1967. It was introduced to me by a colleague. At this time I was 17 and was just beginning my guitar playing. I was amazed at this band, and also used to listen a lot to the widely known guitar instrumental bands such as The Ventures and The Shadows - as well as Beatles and Rolling Stones, obviously. I had never heard of The Jokers before, and never heard about them afterwards. Now, surprisingly, at the age of 68, I'm knowing about them again here on RUclips... and watching them for the first time. And faced with the paradox of their virtuoso playing and their hilarious choreography on stage... All of this is too, too "ghostly" !

      Thanks, Boxcarcifer, for your comment. As I see, we are from the same generation, and both play and love guitars. Presently, I'm composing and recording lots of instrumental guitar pieces ( home recordings ). And an amazing Jungian synchronicity happened between us: just the day before you posted your comment, I took some pictures of myself wearing the same "V" mask you are wearing on the photo, and also a coat with a hood ! All the best !

    As a guitarist I find this fascinating. This is clearly showing you what the vibrato on Fender guitars was intended to be used for: vibrato instead of bending. Bending does not seem to be a 'thing' in this style of music/era presumably because the strings were heavy as hell. Its amazing to see how things 'evolved'. I don't feel the fender trem/vibrato has any real purpose in the 'modern' age and its almost like its become a sort of residual limb long forgotten by evolution. So cool!!!

      @Darm0k 6 лет назад

      They weren't called tremolos for nothing. Now you can get a perfect even tremolo with a pedal, so why use that bar for it:?
      And yeah, I also think the strings back then must have been really heavy. Look at jazz guitar. Note bending is a huge part of jazz style, but the famous jazz guitarists active in the bebop era weren't bending strings. It had to just not be very easy. And the style kind of stuck.

    • @wmfthe5th376
      @wmfthe5th376 6 лет назад +10

      You can do more than just vibrato; you can use them to imitate steel guitar too - drop down half a step before you hit the chord and pull up
      after you hit the strings. Works well with double stops on some harmonic intervals too. I've made it a point to collect guitars with different
      types of tremolo systems; Bigsby, Maestro, Jazzmaster-style, Strat-style and a Danelectro - I love em' all. No use for a Floyd Rose, though.
      I use mine all the time, and I play other stuff besides surf music. Use it with some heavy reverb/delay and slow, subtle vibrato for a chorus effect,
      fingerpick arpeggios while you use your palm to move the arm, and your vibrato is synchronized to your tempo.

    • @Darm0k
      @Darm0k 6 лет назад

      Sounds cool. I used to have a guitar with a tremolo, but never thought to do any of that stuff with it.

    Music composed by: Aram Khachatourian, great Armenian Composer who also composed and wrote the Spartacus Ballet and the Gayane's Ballet. Go check those out and the original of this song which is the "Sabre Dance" he has a lot of other great pieces that you may enjoy.

      Arno Stephanian "...great Armenian Composer who also composed and wrote the Spartacus Ballet and the Gayane's Ballet."
      The Sabre Dance is FROM Gayane, from the wedding scene.

      He was not an Armenian, but a Soviet composer. He received his education in Moscow at the Gnesin Musical College.

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 6 лет назад +25

      Oigen Nebul -- He was born in Tiflis, Russian Empire (now Tbilisi, Georgia) in 1903, before the existence of the Soviet Union, and he didn't move to Moscow until 1923. When asked about a visit to the Vatican, he responded: "I'm an atheist, but I'm a son of the Armenian people, who were the first to officially adopt Christianity, and thus visiting the Vatican was my duty." Among his major works was the Anthem of the Armenian SSR, written in 1944. He self-identified as a "Soviet Armenian," and he was born to Armenian parents, so your "He was not Armenian" statement is obvious disinformation.

      That's partially true regarding the education, but it's enough to listen to anything he's written to immediately recognize the Armenian origin in it. Take the 3rd part of his violin concert, for example.

      Oh his cello rhapsody is an absolute blast to listen to. So weird and dark yet the most beautiful nectar shit comes out of all of this glue of horror. It makes you feel more powerful and irrelevantly small at the same time as nothing else. Also quite fun to play or at least trying to do so.. i do recommend it!

      mussefele Both guitars in this vid are Jazzmasters. Jaguars have chrome plates replacing the switch/knob portions of the pickguard and smaller pickups (as well as 22 frets because they are a shorter scale, 24” like a Mustang versus the 25.5” of the Jazzmaster, Strat and Tele).

    Dig the crazy swivel hips on the rhythm guitarist to the left of the drummer. Also, the light-handed drummer does just what the song requires, and no more. No overplaying or showboating with unnecessary fills, etc.

    Just reminds me that the way a whammy bar was used in the early '60s is a lot different that the dive bomber technique later popularized in the '80s. Course, the tremolo type used then had a lot to do with it how it was used.
