    One of the first things I did to my sport was to flip the front bumper mount and cut off the reciever hitch on the back. Out of all the mods I did, i think it was the best for increased performance. Looks better too

    On my tactical I brought the front bumper in as much as I could and lowered the body as much after 1 or 2 runs. Had to trim a little but it was worth it. My trailer hich is still on and it now has a nice rock rash almost wearing through it.

    Nifty bumper mod. I mainly trail ride my TRX-4 Sport in the desert around Las Vegas so I didn't bother modding my bumpers. Still in the stock positions. I think the steepest inclines I attempt are around 30 to 40°.

    Funny , on my Bronco I inverted the front bumper mount and bought another front mounted and inverted it on the rear, but I bought Hot Racing aluminum ones to help eliminate chassis flex. Also installed a set of Hot racing aluminum bumpers. All the same ideas, works great!

    Hi Josh....just a tip I'm sure you're aware or but for people that want even more "tuck" or approach angle....just Dremel-off the "stops" on the bumper mount and take off some material(from the bottom back) next to the side holes on the mount to accommodate the rising in the front part of the frame. I was able to move my bumper back well over a half inch.

  • @AtvRacer

    Good work. 👍 I also modified the front battery tray they sell and making it work as a winch/battery mount. Only extra free mod I would recommend is cutting off the back half of cage. Like you said every little bit helps. It still looks killer but handles sidehills that much better. I mounted all the accessories to remaining cage. Fire extinguisher on uprights on cage that's left. And left the small bottom portions on truck bed to mount the sand ramps on one side and shovel/axe/jack on other side. And I actually like the look better now so it's a win/win for me. Looking forward to see if you change the rack in the future

    Was the first free mod I did. Leaving the stock bumpers, they look very good, the plastic is very strong and keep weight down on the truck as apposed to metal ones that will not slide as easily as the hard plastic ones.

    The receiver hitch can be flipped with some trimming as well. Also, put some 14mm spacers between the running board and the body. Makes a huge difference.

    As for your question, yes I’ll absolutely be looking at exploring these free options that increase approach and departure angles on my TRX-4 kit build. I enjoy subtle mods - where you can tell it’s different, you can see it performs better, but until you look close you may not see what the mods were at first. Well done sir! 👍✌️

  • @jburgess5
    @jburgess5 5 лет назад

    I really appreciate you showing the difference between the stock TRX and the modified. once you get the modified truck running it would be great if you could show running difference between the stock and the modified. Such as climbing Hills, Hill descent and also driving on certain angles to see which modification helps the truck. Also installing the overdrive gears would it primarily be for a crawler or could you use the overdrive gears and keep it a trail truck/ crawler as well?

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  5 лет назад +1

      Makes a great trail truck too, will help with steering and climbing but not be so hard on the drivetrain.

  • @jburgess5
    @jburgess5 5 лет назад

    it would also be great to see the turning radius of the stock trx4 vs the modded trx4 with the overdrive gears to see if it helps it make a tighter turn.

    Free Mod. Flip the Stock Shocks upside Down. Of course open them up and massage the innards a little. I got mine to cycle like butter with a little time and attention and 10wgt oil...
    Free Mod. Also you can tuck the rear bumper in further Trim off the last hole on each frame rail in the rear section of the frame and drill new holes in front to line up with the mount. thus using all 4 original screws.
    These were my first mods when the Defender first came out. There is also a way to get a little more steering. Free Mod... Don't tell everyone but you can trim the steering bump stops and get a couple more degrees...
    Your Welcome.

    Hey Josh.
    Good morning.
    Just Curious why you'd overdrive the front instead of underdriving the rear?
    You can always gear-up from the smallest pinion but not down....or am I getting ahead of you and your just going to underdrive the rear next week?
    Hahaha

    • @billderas3420
      @billderas3420 5 лет назад +1

      I immediately went with both overdrive front and underdrive rear gearing; but, found it to be too much when sidehilling. Made the rear of the truck not track well behind the fronts. So, one or the other was the way to go for my typical crawling.

    • @tomlucasrccrawlers9108
      @tomlucasrccrawlers9108 5 лет назад

      @@billderas3420 I figured that'd happen....I usually just underdrive the rear.
      I like the way Josh covered the benefit of over driving the front or underdriving the rear. I've been explaining it the same way...it really works....like you said...the rear sliding down on side-hilling is the only "down" I've seen.

      You’ll still be able to trail. 13% will be noticeable but not a major issue.

  • @MarcoLemmetti
    @MarcoLemmetti 5 лет назад

    If having a lift kit installed on the trx4 defender and performing the same work you did, I’m assuming I would get the same results if not, better? I’m also waiting on some new hyrax 1.9 wheels and tires to put on the defender, kind of the same size as the stock tires that came with the trx4. I’m also assuming with those new tires I’ll have better grip and clearance with your mod ?

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  5 лет назад

      The work I did would benefit any setup, however the lift kit is not something I’d install unless for a mud truck personally.

    • @stpbasss3773
      @stpbasss3773 5 лет назад

      The hyrax are bigger than the stock trx4 tires and a lift kit will not increase crawling performance, it will increase your muddin ability but that's about it.

  • @reddeerrebelrc6674
    @reddeerrebelrc6674 5 лет назад

    You'll need rear under drive as well for it to make a difference.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  5 лет назад

      That’s not true, 13% is plenty of overdrive to make a substantial difference. 26%+ is so much that it will effect a lot of other things such as sidehilling even. It works in comp only type setups but not something I’d run regularly.

    • @reddeerrebelrc6674
