    Josh...I have Hobbywing 1080W ESCs in all three of my crawlers; so, I was very interested in your take on the programmable settings for them. We pretty much agreed on everything; except for, the two Drag Brake settings (#9 and #10). After my trying your settings...You win. I previously had way too much Drag Brake happening. So, your explanation of the 1080W settings in this video have been the most helpful of all I have seen on RUclips to date. Many thanks for your guidance. Suggesting a 45 tooth spur gear and 13 pinion for that motor.

    You normally want to reverse the throttle position in the radio before performing ESC-radio calibration. The order shown would cause an issue if you have a shorter trigger throw on the braking side, which many radios do. This is mentioned in the Hobbywing instructions as well - Step 1 is to reverse it if you have a Futaba, Step 2 is to calibrate the ESC.

    As others have said, item 15 is what makes the 1080 such a great crawler ESC. The downhill control is great!

    By enabling #15 it will allow you to be on throttle while going downhill and it will maintain your speed. When its disabled it won't hold your speed downhill and will "freewheel" or speed up.

    The 20 dollar Holmes trail master sport motor. It's actually a dollar cheaper lol. But the stock motor actually works pretty well for what it is. I ran the stock motor for a month or so till I swapped it out for a tekin roc412 and mamba x. I love my trx4 so far!

    You dont actually need to plug in both programing and receiver plugs into the programming card, just running the cable from the programming port on the esc to the (+/-/s) port on the programming card is all that's necessary. (Hope that helps with quick programing changes In the future)

I go neutral-set, full forward-set, full reverse-set per the instructions of the esc, I then go into the setting on the 4PV and reverse throttle. Do you do it that way so that you don't have to reverse throttle in the 4PV settings? Thanks.

    I had to add a BEC to my 1080 as even at 7.4v for the Servo, it is only giving out 3a, so still starving the servo. Have you ever dropped your radio? When I started crawling... I sold off my 4PV for the Spektrum DX5 Rugged. I sorely miss the interface/menus of the Futaba.

    Is "cheap" a negative property for you? Seems so.
    So far you cannot say anything negative about the Hobbywing Quicrun 1080, so you call it "cheap", and "a little bit better than the 1060". Little bit? In the Quicrun 1060 (also really good and very cheap) you can adjust Lipo/NiMH and break type (crawler mode), not more. In the 1080 you can adjust "everything". This is "a little bit better" for you?
    The Hobbywing Quicrun 1080 is by far the most popular and most praised crawler ESC, the more if you consider its bargain price. But you seem to be ashamed or even feel pain (watch your face when talking about "Chinese stuff") because you have to use something "cheap" and "Chinese".

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  5 лет назад +1

      It’s much cheaper than the setups I prefer which are generally 4-pole sensored brushless systems. I like the 1080, it’s just that I not normally chose to run this type of setup. The programming is great and I’m well aware of the use of it in the market. It’s a great ESC for the money, just not my ultimate preferred setup.

    • @donaldsneffe
      @donaldsneffe 5 лет назад

      @@HarleyDesignsInc OK, thank you for your response. I knew, you highly prefer BL setups, but anyway, you also highly prefer "Non-China-Setups" ;-).
      "I like the 1080" is a very new kind of statement of yours about Hobbywing (and similar) brand(s). I also do think, it is a fantastic ESC, and the price is unbelievable cheap (twice the price would still be a very good price). It is extremely popular here in Europe. And most people have to think at least a little bit about money for their hobby ;)

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  5 лет назад

      I don’t think I have a brushed crawler that isn’t running a HW ESC right now, so I’m totally on board with the choice. It’s just when I have the choice of what I want to run, ultimately it’s not usually HW.
