This is gonna hit real close to home for me as someone who had to drop out of college due to severe stress and anxiety deteriorating my mental health. The overall pressures that come from a 4-year college education was just too overwhelming for me, and that's mainly due to how my upbringing had me settling for a very introverted, almost shut-in lifestyle. It's still taking me some time to accept the fact that that kind of environment/path isn't for everyone, and that, just because I haven't reached those milestones for a "successful" life like all others, it doesn't make me a failure. Rather than being so fixated on how everything is changing and moving on without me, I should be focusing on finding my pace.
I hear you there. After four years, two LOAs, and three different therapists (the last one finally sticking) I finally let my University degree go this year for almost the exact same reasons as you ,as well as COVID lockdowns, to move on to new things. Your words meant a lot and I hope you're doing well atm
I feel I should give you a piece of advice, the eyeball symbol and speech stuff doesn't go away until you have finished all the dialogue, so you should keep interacting if they stay, there is some great and heartfelt stuff that alot of players miss because of this.
I think the game is set in the 2010s since when Mae is insulting the shop she says that dead bodies from the 60s are also 50 years old. It's also common for more countryside cities or cities with a lot of elderly people to still have VHS.
Immediately: I LOVE and appreciate how THOROUGH your exploration is. This game is full of so MUCH, and too many people miss big chunks of it because they don't approach the game with any sense of curiosity. Being curious is a virtue, and it's one I'm happy to see you excel with! ^_^
im so excited to see your playthrough of Night in the Woods! i never did get to see the full extent of the game, but oh boy am i happy youre picking it up :D
OOOOOHHHH I LOVE THIS GAME AND NOW SEEING YOU PLAY IT IS GONNA BE EVEN BETTER I LOVE HOW YOU ALWAYS HAVE INTERESTING STUFF TO SAY NOW WE'LL GET TO SEE YOUR REACTION TO THIS AMAZING GAME
i just found your channel tonight, from the lost phone playthru, and i'm so glad you're playing this because it's extremely important to me. funny thing about trauma is that sometimes you just assume things will end, and then you find yourself older than younger you ever thought was possible, and it's like "damn, how did i get here?" this game found me at that point of my life, realising the pain wouldn't stop unless i made it stop. it told me that it's ok if it hurts, it should hurt, you still deserve love and support. i'm so glad to be here, to actually live a life that while not stress free is at least authentic to myself, that at least allows me some compassion for myself. and i genuinely couldn't have done it without this little story.
i hopped a train so to speak, just upped and left one day, it probably was a mistake in hindsight. to get help, you have to be able to ask for help, and i wasn't, didn't have the words, and so i left. it was again, this game that brought me home.
I am so happy you're playing NITW!! I love it and i'd love to hear a commentary from you, and to just watch a playthrough of it again i know you are going to play it your way and that's how it obv should be, but a bit of advice: - you can jump over the stairs and go right, in Mae's house - hanging out with friends gives you connections and a better understanding of their life, and usually people choose Gregg bc he's freindly, but Bea's side of the story is very interesting too and it's deeper than just "she's grumpy and doesn't like Mae bc reasons" - as long as there's an eye icon or a talk icon you can keep interacting w someone/something to learn more. there's always new text
Funny, in every single blind LP of this I've watched except one, they all pick Bea because she's responsible and they need each other and "Gregg is a bad influence on Mae"
@@Fuchsia_tude oh. interesting. i've seen people talk a lot more about Gregg. maybe he's more popular among non-letsplayers and that's why? his route is great so i don't complain
@@bunnycat5552 Maybe. I mean obviously Gregg is really popular. But just about every one I've watched they pick Bea's route, and I'm not sure why LPers would be constitutionally or philosophically more inclined to pick her route over his than gen pop is.
This game is SO good. The characters, the writing, the story. It'll be fun see what you do and don't remember as we go through. Also just to let you know/remind you, but interactables will usually have different text if you look at them a second or third time. The interact icon will disappear when Mae has no more comments on a thing. Just like with conversations. You actually CAN go to the right of the stairs on the second floor, just need to jump over the gap. As for the time period the game is set in, it's explicitly the 2010's. Note how "something in a hole in the ground for 50 years" was "dead people from the 60's."
im really happy to see you play this game since nitw is one of my top 3 favorite games/pieces of media ever and has defined my as a person in ways i cant describe.
This game has so many option branches that it's hard to know everything about it. But my favorite thing, beside the art and music, is the queer characters. :3 About the stigma of living with parents: I'm 28 and due to having an...extremely small salary, I live with my family. But I also am the only one who earns a monthly salary at home, so even though I earn less than $500 a month, I have to pitch in to help my family with bills and groceries, bc I am relatively stable. I've gone through 5 very different jobs, and hundreds of applications and interviews, since I graduated 6 years ago, and I still haven't earned back what my studies cost my dad at all, even when I've barely had any free time/vacations in those 6 years. And I can't afford an apartment nor a Master's degree... Damn, extreme capitalism. 😭
Lol I imagine Mae spacing out every time the commentary trails off to explain things. (This game encouraged me to be more outgoing the first time I played it, it really put me at ease.) (Hope you enjoy it!)
I have NITW but I haven’t found the motivation to continue playing it myself. I’m glad you are though cause now I can watch the story unfold with your commentary!
Thank you so much for playing this game. I've been wanting to watch this for a while and now I that I have a moment, I am quite excited to see where this game goes.
This is a great game. Deep and nuanced with fleshed out characters and town. Phenomenal soundtrack, as well. It's a great game for a therapist to play. I'm looking forward to hearing your analysis of the characters. I actually beat it just days before going into in-patient rehab and mentioned it to my therapist. That's what drew me to your playthrough.
Man, I need to play this game again! The game leads to the same ending, but, I went through more of Bea's route rather than Gregg's _Plus, I might have been on auto-pilot through this_
omg!! i cant believe youre playing nitw (night in the woods). its one of my favorite games ever, and it would be awesome to hear what you think by the end. looking forward to this!
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but if you haven't realized it (might have, judging it from first 30 minutes of the video). when you interact with anything, keep interacting until the icon goes away. If it's still there after you interacted with it, means there's still something new to see or say. You will miss a lot of funny (and not so funny) dialogue if you only interact with everything once. Looking forward to this one. Should be fun.
I know this is an older video, but I felt compelled to speak. There is a quote "comparison is the thief of happiness." I feel like it is a fine line. A while back, I was in a not great situation, and the first thing those that kept me did was make sure I got rid of my social media and had no time to go online. Not being able to compare my life to others, I could not identify the situation as abusive. It was only after I started comparing my life to others that I realized how I was being treated was not normal and could leave... but I can see how comparison can mess people up too... i guess that's why there is no one size fits all solution.
I often see people talking about “how do they differentiate between the ‘animals that are people’ and ‘the ones that are just animals.’” In my mind it’s really a case of relatives on different evolutionary/taxonomic branches. Much like how humans are a species of ape, but we are closely related to other primates.
Im glad youre playing this game :D Also idk if it makes it easier to spell but Pierogi kinda go like pi-e-rogi if you wanna spell it I probably made it more confusing, I dont know how to explain but its written the same in my language :’)
awww you didn't do the multiple choice at the start! its tough to notice, tbh. i don't think it matters too much since it doesn't take away from the experience, but it's fun!
10:10 NITW does have heavy topics at the end of the game thought, i would recommend searching them, two of them are depression and derealization as far as i know!
This game is the ONE game that I cannot play or watch. The story hits way too close to home. I'm gonna eventually play it myself but until then I have to improve my mental health dramatically. And once I do, I will return here and listen to your insights!
