Certified paccar tech here. Last one of these I did I had to plug the vent cap off and pressurize it higher than 15 psi. I’d try the block heater as well. I’d also check and see if that davco filter has coolant lines going to it. Keep in mind injector cups on these are non serviceable so you’ll be putting a head on it either way.
That plug is a 20 amp 115 volt plug. Keeps idiots from plugging in a regular extension cord which in most cases is only good for 12-13 amps into it melting the cord. With the 20 amp plug it helps to prevent that. Thanks for the video! Looking forward to the update!
For future reference on all paccar engines the fuel lines don't need to be removed fully to get the injector out. Just loosen them and pull them back, literally about 1-2 cm back is all that's needed. You can reuse the lines if the injector aren't replaced.

Hi warren just go to a Lowe's and get a 20 amp cord, the hot leg is turned on 20 amps, the traditional cords are 15 amp sets. look at your shop plug and the hot leg should be a T shape if its circuit breaker is 20 amps. that's so both cords can be plugged in.
I just listen'd to your monologue on sports. Spot on. You hit the nail on the head. I stopped when the political activism started and really wasn't that interested in it before.
I work for a fleet that only runs these engines. Other than a few broken crankshafts and 1 bad head gasket, these are pretty stout motors internally. I’ve never seen one with this problem. We have had over a thousand of these and have replaced quite a few oil coolers (not uncommon). Unless your damn certain it’s fuel in the water then i wouldn’t pull the head. If I was in your shoes I would flush the cooling system, refill, let it run and see if it comes back. You never know what the operator dumped in there. Also extremely unlikely but the diesel injector on the exhaust has water going through it. Could be worth looking at. Best of luck to you!
Hey buddy. I would with a cold engine start it up and check the temperature of your ex manifold for each cyl and if the cups are bad you should have cold cyl. That is a place to start. Then I would put air pressure in the cyl head if you can on that engine and see if you have bubbles in the coolant tank. If that eng has a water cool fuel system that would do that . Good luck.
Could there be a crack or leak internally in the Davco 382? I see there's coolant lines running to it. For those unfamiliar, that is the fuel/water separator near the steering shaft/power steering reservoir. It is an option, which this one appears to have, to have the coolant heat the diesel fuel as it comes through the unit for filtration.

They have that 20 amp plug on it because both the block heater and oil pan heater run off the same receptacle - hardware store adapter can work for a bit more than just a pinch - we've done it several times, right or wrong. I don't have any experience with the MX 13 EPA 10 setups, we did have one EPA 13 engine that was hard to track down with cross contamination, If I recall correct it was something like the fuel dozer pump is water jacket cooled, and that casing cracked. Wish I could recall more precisely what the situation was - it was many years ago, and with all the 100's MX13's we've had, we only saw it happen one time. Interesting project. Warren, now that you have had a peek at a Pacar engine what’s your opinion on them. Lots of guys bad mouthing that engine . Great video, I try to watch all of them. You are definitely a “ multi talented “ mechanic 👍
We ran a lot in the UK and IMO they were a very good engine, performance, reliability and cost of ownership was much better that any Cat or Cummins engines we had. Of course the US market is a completely different kettle of fish.
That’s a 120v plug....it has one sideways blade because it’s a 20 amp type. It’s not special, just takes a lot of amps. I bet you have at least one 20 amp receptacle in your house. The 20 amp 120volt receptacles have one pin that can take a regular plug or a 20 amp plug because one hole is t shaped. Usually garages or kitchens have 20 amp circuits ( or any commercial location)
I’m only 2 mins into the video but, if you do pull the cylinder head, do not scrape the gasket off with anything but a plastic scraper! I’m not sure exactly what year paccar changed what their blocks were made of or if it’s always been made of metal that requires a plastic scraper. If you use anything but a plastic scraper the head and block are junk or they have to be resurfaced.
I'm a kenworth tech, and you're mostly right. The blocks can't be machined. And the head gaskets are mostly metal with rubber, in spots. You don't scrape the heads or block at all, all you need to do is brake clean and wipe with a rag.
Well Warn this is exactly what you need to get you up to speed, and that is a challenge for your skills and expertise. After this you’ll be able to pass along what you’ve learned.
Could it be getting in from the dosing unit for the after treatment? I haven't worked on a paccar, but lots of Detroit's and that is another place you might be able to get a cross leak. Might be pressure from the dosing injector ( or injector 7) getting into the cooling lines in that head unit. Just a thought. Davco leaks in my experience have only resulted in coolant in the fuel. Not the other way around since the davco is on the suction side and coolant pressure forces coolant into the filter housing. That davco filter does have a nice twist on it though.
Not saying it is but on our old leyland engines we had to re swage the injector inserts in the head for the same problem ! good luck with your diagnosis !
5:15, gotta love those Paccar engineers, if they have brains they’d be dangerous.12:30, The alternator is on the wrong side of the engine.39:50, maybe there’s an adaptor plug for that block heater in the cab of the truck?
Is that valve cover plastic? It seemed really light for its size. And I totally get the hate for red antifreeze. GM's Dex-Cool is a shade of brown. If you don't check it often enough, you'll never know how dirty it is as it looks dirty out of the jug.

Getting paid millions of dollars, and want to preach to us. Useless, unnecessary fools. Things go any further South in our country, we'll see how necessary these muscle heads are.
I spent a week in the kw dealer for exact opposite problem. I had coolant in my fuel. Turns out Paccar has a service bulletin out for Cummins about some bad injector cups that were not ground properly, so they would start to leak coolant into the fuel system. I have a 2017 high performance x15 Cummins in my 4 axle kw 880.
Remove cover on right bottom of bell housing to find your 1-6 5-2 3-4 line up marks this is also were the line up tool goes which would make life easy for reassemble
I do not see how pressurizing cooling system and looking at the sheath's would indicate fuel getting into coolant. That would only indicate water into oil. A puzzler isn't it?
With the injectors out .and the system.is pressurized a cracked injector cup will bubble coolant around it unless the head is cracked in one of the fuel supply gallies
On a 20 Amp 120V plug the hot terminal is horizontal instead of vertical like the 15 Amp plugs. From what little I can see on my phone it looked like a 20Amp male plug on the truck. Thank You for the great videos and I hope that info on plugs might help someone.
Never saw sports/playing games as a real job, particularly since the minute money took over from a passion for a game, they change the rules on everything to make sure all the little dears don’t get hurt. And then fuck about with the rules so scoring is easier and more often.
This will be an interesting problem when all is done. I take it that with these high fuel system pressures that these are direct injection type systems to try to gain fuel economy?
Warren still way better than Hollywood 👍🤟🍺

5:15, gotta love those Paccar engineers, if they have brains they’d be dangerous.12:30, The alternator is on the wrong side of the engine.39:50, maybe there’s an adaptor plug for that block heater in the cab of the truck?
Is that valve cover plastic? It seemed really light for its size.
And I totally get the hate for red antifreeze. GM's Dex-Cool is a shade of brown. If you don't check it often enough, you'll never know how dirty it is as it looks dirty out of the jug.
You get blessed with the best junk to fix
Hi Warren like to know how that 7830 turned out Willing to bet u figured it out during that day while driving to ur next service call CHEERS I. ENJOY UR VIDEOS AND WORK ETHIC
Now I work for a fleet and they have dd15. I reused the line and had no problem. I know you shouldn’t but I did and had no problem.
Love the commentary, while you're working! Keep it up! I agree with all your thoughts. You're busy bustin your knuckles and back, while other adult males, play a child's game. Getting paid millions of dollars, and want to preach to us. Useless, unnecessary fools. Things go any further South in our country, we'll see how necessary these muscle heads are.
Just saw your coffee cup. I follow that guy too. 🇺🇸🙏😁
The trucks I work on have fuel heaters inline . They are plumbed in before the filter and use the heater lines.
The cat paver I run at work had fuel in the water and it was the injector cups.
I had the same problem with a DT466 International and one of these.
Navy vs army is about the only game I watch 😂 course next year my cousins kid hopefully will be back up qb for navy
On P-3's fuel weighs 6 pounds per gallon and water weighs 8 pounds per gallon back in the day.
Your right dont be scared of something new always remember its just nuts and bolts.
On a 20 Amp 120V plug the hot terminal is horizontal instead of vertical like the 15 Amp plugs. From what little I can see on my phone it looked like a 20Amp male plug on the truck. Thank You for the great videos and I hope that info on plugs might help someone.
Your audio is much better. Thanks.
Never saw sports/playing games as a real job, particularly since the minute money took over from a passion for a game, they change the rules on everything to make sure all the little dears don’t get hurt. And then fuck about with the rules so scoring is easier and more often.
I'm showing the same code truck won't go over 65 now..what were the symptoms
This will be an interesting problem when all is done.
I take it that with these high fuel system pressures that these are direct injection type systems to try to gain fuel economy?
Direct injection can have higher efficiency, more power and more economy.
Enjoy your conversation as you work on repairs.
why is the fuel level so high in the fuel pro?
look for a standard "20 amp" 120 volt cord to connect the heater
Wow so I guess the wires were not ground like the code said. Fuel and water. I also like the individual Jake brakes.

Savage sir! LOL
Sweet
Warren you can buy those plug ends at the hardware store
