Damn son! Education on point. I left helicopter stuff for a minute and doing FPV with Tiny Whoops. Mechanical tuning is almost absent (weight and thrust are paramount) but helicopter mechanics are way different. But PID tuning is always needed depending on weight, motor and prop size. Glad to see this. Totally understand.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 usually you don't have an option on smaller helicopters for PID tuning. My Blade Fusion 270 has PID tuning but I used the default settings and it works good, but could be better. On the smaller Blade, XK, Eachine, and the like kind of helicopters you only have two options! Cut weight or tighten the chassis. Sometimes, you can't do either. Usually you can "feel" a 10% weight loss. A blade Nano S3 is close to 30 grams, so dropping 3 grams is tough... And some don't mind a 10% increase if it doesn't induce a nose or tail heavy situation.
Great video. Jeff let me suggest that you give us your settings and let us set up the heli just the same as you. Then if the roll rate is to slow turn this up. If your loops are to slow turn this up or down. The speed of the pirouette is your settings and if you want to have a faster or slower pirouette turn this setting up or down. Just a suggestion but you like a pretty fast heli so all we need to adjust this up or down for a great tune.

Dear WestHobbiesRC, thank you for this video. At 04:5: Why do you need general values for GYRO in your transmitter, when you can fine-tune all these values for GAIN, PID,... in the IKON Brain2? Is it mandatory to have general values for GYRO in the transmitter to enable fine-tuning in the IKON? Do the values in the transmitter overwrite the values in the IKON, are they added to the values in the IKON or do they result in a kind of over-compensating the values in the IKON? Thank you very much and have a nice day. Best regards, Markus.
Another really great video Jeff! A question if I may….. can a Neo vlink be used on a spektrum radio by plugging spektrum receivers into the neo? I believe you can with the non vlink version ?
Thank you, James! I greatly appreciate it. Yes you can use a Leo with a spectrum radio by plugging it satellites into the side port, and telling it in the software to bind with spektrum personally, I don’t see the point in using a Vbar NEO with anything but V control just because you can’t have full use of the NEO with a spektrum radio like you can with Vcontrol
Hi jeff, I fly Vbar and on my SAB fireball when I do a hard tail stop, the helicopter moves back with cyclic. I‘m still in the process of setting the helicopter up, any ideas what i should adjust on my Vbar Neo Pro?
@@westhobbiesrc8051 only in one direction, it’s always back elevator for some reason. I have yet to tune my tail and head with the optimizer so perhaps that might help:/
Jeff, would you recommend the NX10? Been fan of Futaba and currently own two of them at the moment, 14SG and the 16iz. I wanted to try the NX10 for BNF Heli’s.
Have you ever set your cyclic throws (in the setup menu where you set swash level and pitch) to more than the recommended 10°? I have an issue with my tb70 that the flip speed is not increasing even tho I am increasing the rotation speed on elevator and aileron. Maybe I should increase cyclic throw to like 12°? Do you have any experience with that? Cheers
Hmmm! That’s a strange one, I’ve never had that issue before. You can try increasing the cyclic throw just make sure there is no binding in the swash plate. Let me know if that helps!
Hi Jeff, if the Ikon 2/Brain 2 allows for such micro setups should we then put all dual rates at 100% and expo at 0% in the transmitter and only work on the unit setups? Thanks.
What's up west? I'm really liking your videos! I was curious if you could offer advice on ikon2 tuning. I currently installed an ikon2 on to an align tb40. I can pretty much tune the thing however cannot get rid of my tail walking out to the left during tail slides. I've tried everything, and it keeps drifting left. I've spent 4 days tuning it and gave up and bought another vbar. Have you had any issues like that?
@@bigqbeatsproductions639 Thank you! I’m glad you are enjoying the videos, I appreciate you watching! So what have you tired tuning? The TB40 is a strange heli with tail issues. Mainly because of the tail geometry. I don’t have one but seen and know a few who do. Tail walking out like that is from not enough pitch on the tail to catch it. Try and turn the pitch precomp up and see if that helps. If you can get more travel out of the tail, you can go to the next hole on the servo horn and get more mechanical advantage with less gain, or you can go down a hole and get less mechanical advantage and run more gain.
have you ever come across a high D gain on the tail and still getting bounce back? im running 600 rotation on idle one and 700 on idle 2 i think, idle one getting quite abit of bounce back, im at 55 on gain currently. 1850rpm idle 1, 2000 idle 2. trex 600 nitro brain fbl
So with the Trex 600n ( I have three of them) I can never get my tail to be perfect. I have a feeling it’s the slop in the push rod I’m actually converting to a carbon push rod and hoping that helps. I built and flew an Trex 600XN and the tail was perfect. Only difference was tail push rod and slider.
@westhobbiesrc8051 mines the 600n 3g so older fbl one. I've got the carbon rod and there's no slop. only got some gear slop but wouldnt thought that would be an issue of bounce back? I'll play with it more next time I go out with it and see if I can get it better
Thanks for all the work you do for the heli community Jeff!
So so glad you got to this video! Seen others that just confused me, very helpful! Cheers
