I respect you all three, but I’ll be honest: having Jeff stepping into this is a huge huge huge plus for me! He is amazing in the build videos and explaining things in a simple way. Most importantly teaching you what is meaningful and truly substantial, not ending up confusing you like others do in the process. I am truly excited and beyond happy to have Jeff teach us and introduce us RF in his own efficient way.
Thank you John for all the support! I am hoping to eventually help some fellow heli pilots trying to adopt the technology. We have to do a video together about EdgeTX for sure.
So glad you’re behind this mate. Its a fantastic system to use. Most of us here in Western Australia have switch over and we are love it. Keep doing what you’re doing mate!!
Great video guys!! I've been flying the Nexus and TX16S Max for about 6 months now and it is fantastic!! The EdgeTX/ELRS/Rotorflight learning curve is definitely a little steep but the payoff is SO worth it!! Thanks for doing this series!!
1,5 yr ago i started flying helicopters and bought a Goosky S2. To keep down cost i bought a tx16s 4in1 and learned Edge tx. So i know nothing else. I was jealous at the guys flying vbar. Funny to see that now the tx16s is the portal to something better than vbar at a fraction of the cost. I bought a raw 500 back in april and went with Spirit fbl. Recently i switched from frysky to elrs rp3-h. I use the flrc500 packetrate and the link is excellent! I should have bought rotorflight right away instead of Spirit, because half of the times when powering up, i don’t have sticks. Have to disconnect anf try again. Its like a lottery. Also the telemetry from the spirit is not working properly. Great you guys are picking this up for the heli community!
As an early adopter of rotorflight when it was in v1. I can appreciate the work you guys are doing on tutorials. I would have never got through it if i didnt already understand edgetx, elrs and betaflight. I only have 1 heli on rotor flight with a basic setup. I am looking forward to getting 2 more setups with the nexus and more advanced features enabled. Looking forward to getting rid of vbar and spektrum and only having open source.
The video that Jonas Wackershauser and John of rc review has come out with walks you through the complete setup process and explains what you put in each setup box and why. Jonas has another video that's about 15 minutes that goes from start to finish on the setup. After that a flight right after it was setup. These are great guides to help you understand how the system works. Thank you to Bert, Jeff, and Alex for doing a deep dive into this amazing system. If your using an esc that can produce telemetry and black box information that will help with tuning.
Love to see it. As much as I try to support our local (and sometimes overseas) hobby supply giants, I always want the option to be in control of my hardware/software, and keep the corpos on their toes when they start to over reach a bit. Just had to part ways with a specific company because they started building obsolescence into their receivers to break compatability with otherwise perfectly good transmitters.
3 of the ABSOLUTE BEST in this HOBBY! I am still LOST with radio MASTER but i will be moving to Orlando in about 18 months and i cant wait to get some help from BERT or other heli pilots in that area.
I would like to congratulate you all for this webinar. It will encourage every one adventure, try and achieve Rotor Flight FBL world wide. Now, on my wish list!
Bert! It would be incredible if you could invite some of the developers of EACH project (Captn Bry for ELRS, Dr. Rudder for Rotorflight, some of the Edge FrSky guys) as an authority on their specific open source project!
Awesome video. For most 2.4ghz systems The long antenna leads just give you length to get the antenna outside of a body or fuselage . The business end is only the 30mm stripped ends as the rest is just shielded cable that does not improve signal strength.
Great video Bert, would be nice to get Futaba and Spectrum users onboard by doing a how to video to setup a Nexus with these radios and hobbywing ESC. I am flying Futaba for over 10 years and all my planes and helicopters geared with Futaba. I wont buy an Edge16TX but I am willing to get a Nexus and set it up with my Futaba radio and receiver. Currently nothing in RUclips except a Japanese modeller doing that and it’s not in English.
some challenges of using open source radio is updating the firmware. some times it's necessary to update firmwares for the transmitter, the receiver, the flightcontroller, the internal elrs module, the external elrs module etc. which can be rather confusing. and there are LUA scripts for rotorflight and other apps you can install on the EdegTX transmitter.
great to see people coming togeather helping out . i am using rotorflight on futaba 16iz and yes its been a big learning curve for sure , its not perfect setup yet but getting there . be nice to see videos of rf using other radios then Rotormaster .

I would recommend Radiomaster TX16S with built in 4in1 Internal Multi Protocol Module, and then add External ELRS module of your choice. If you want something cheaper, try Jumper T15. very nice color screen display. smaller and lighter than TX16s. also, you can do Ardupilot with these radios.
Depends on your direction and what your starting with. All my craft are now converted to ELRS and I wish I had an ELRS Tx16S now instead of the bulky Ranger module on the back. If I ever did go back in time...then a 4-1 module addon could be the option. But honestly I'm not expecting to ever go back to any other protocol on my TX16s. I am open to trying other systems (Ikon/Vbar/Sprit) but I wouldn't do them off my Tx16s, I'd do them off their respective intended Transmitters.
@@kajuta240 well, I recommend external ELRS, for extended range. but you can always buy the internal elrs module from radiomaster and replace 4in1 module, if you so wish.
Frsky is my choice, opensource with a graphical interface and capable of elrs and much more . The best of both worlds and also the transmitters are of much better quality.
You can connect the Nexus to another receiver such as the Radiomaster ER6 and plug devices such as a glow igniter into the ER6 ports and control them from the transmitter. You don't need to have everything plugged into the Nexus, just what the Nexus needs to control.
I I find it interesting for sure and I know a lot about open source with beta flight and frsky edgeTX but I just can convince myself to put that same headache on me as I did when I raced fpv. Vbar is just so dang convenient for me and does everything I could ever need but who knows I followed Jeff to Mikado when he switched from ikon/spektrum to vbar so maybe he can convince me. I also only fly nitro so it would have to be an updated model with more ports to convince me
Bert, in another video you mentioned you are running the “switch mode wide”. This basically cuts the resolution of all the channels (excluding 1-4) down to 128 positions vs 1024, with a slower update. I’m just wondering if you can comment on this switch mode versus something like 333 full. Also, with only four channels having full resolution. Which one gets delegated to the lower Rez? Regards, Dave Bowen
Throttle doesn’t need the resolution. This is why we move collective to channel 3. So collective, pitch (elevator), roll (aileron) and yaw (rudder) have fill res. Those are the only channels that require it.
When you talk about down loading a file that has parameter for the radio and is a setup for the radio can you please show us how to do that each step. Once you get that on your radiomaster tx16s then you can copy that and your ready to set up another heli and just make some adjustments. Help.
It is a pity that you did not invite someone with more ethos (Frsky) knowledge Bert. You only invited one person who is acquainted with the Radiomaster Tx.

I'm going to raise the BS flag on your months after months claim; if that's true you really only just insulted yourself. I know EdgeTX is not the copy/paste paint by numbers hand holding the other setups provide. But it was only a week of reading a bit here and there as my preparation stage. But the process to actually sit down and flash firmware, download the widgets and get to programming my first basic profile and mixes was just a weekend adventure. I spent that time on forums, youtube and even sat down with ChatGPT once I was actually committed to get started. After I was up and running on my S1, my S2 built off that in a fraction of that time. I've since converted both to ELRS receivers and have hundreds of flights under my belt. Getting into the profiles and making changes on the fly is just as easy as any other system at not just a fraction of the cost but also allows for the massive potential to mix it up and really get into the weeds of customization. I have an RS4 Venom on RotorFlight 2 and that was about a week of dialog with the community; that bird has 50 fights and its tuned awesome! Amazing community support! I'm getting ready to load up the avionics on my Gemini and Nimbus V2 which will also be RF2/ELRS setups. I fully expect the setup for those craft to be a matter of hours and after a few flights to collect basic black box data, I will have my filters tuned and rocking stable. 99% of the flightline at my clubs are copy/paste foam fliers, it's simple and effortless; something I will always understand and defend. Open Source is the path of pain, but the results are incredibly robust. The more I learn the more I appreciate just how detailed you can get with it.
