Did people honestly think this would happen over night? Metaverse isn't dead, it has barely started. Meta has had highly realistic CODEC avatars for a while and have continued to present developments as recently as the GTC conference. The biggest challenge is that nobody was buying $2000+ headsets until Apple vision pro. Now that the market is changing we will almost certainly see a new Quest Pro that utilizes some form of this avatar technology.
ppl that belived in metaverse probably never saw world of warcraft, second life or runescape which were actual functioning worlds with an economy. there was absolutely nothing new but worse graphics and glitches.
