Well, we know now that Wallis' affection for David was somewhat less than the papers touted. It started when she and her then husband Simpson wanted Royal favor and social advancement. Unfortunately for all concerned, it got out of hand. David became obsessed, threatened suicide if she left him so she was hooked. According to her letters, she regretted it hugely. Play with matches you could get burned.

It’s interesting to speculate what would have happened if Wallis had stayed w/ Simpson. I highly doubt David would have killed himself. Just my opinion.

The more I listened to this, the more I thought Harry was like David! Infatuated/obsessed, still thinking himself Royal when they gave that up, 'freedom' didn't look the same as they thought it would be, still wanting to get back with the Family in one way or another. We can 'see' Harry's future unfolding.....Can He?

HRH Princess Royal broke the mould. It's what you make of being a spare. Works her butt off and is well respected globally!

HRH Princess Royal Anne is indeed a lady to be looked up to.
Princess Anne's sense of duty and service go without question. Her loyalty to her brother the King is without question, yet their relationship is such that she can and will speak her mind.
Princess Margaret had a 'full life'. Some can say she was unlucky at love or picked the wrong husbands.
In the end the friendship between the sisters was strong and they both relied on each other. I am sure the Queen was thankful for a trustworthy sister in Margaret.

    • @MeItsMeLol

I agree PAnne is fabulous, but I must point out that as soon as PAndrew was born in 1960 when she was ten, PAnne was no longer a spare.

The young princesses were lovely. My mum grew up at the same time, she would’ve been 100 this year; a year old than our late majesty.
I met Princess Margaret at a Royal College of Nursing reception, and she was extremely beautiful. I think the young princess had more freedom to view events in a different way to our late monarch. Looking at our late queen mother, I wonder what she thought of her younger daughter's actions?
What a lovely report, and especially the visuals. Thanks Neil ❤

What I've seen of Harry...the Royals will do anything to cover up the fact that they are human & not God's. The concept goes way back... Royals are gifted with the blood of God. The idea worked for people in the middle ages. For me, I respect history & it's protection (like I protect my family pictures if I were to be in a fire), but, I see no reason or solution to the idea of a spare🌲🇺🇲

Listen I am the baby of 10 kids, okay, and I have two brothers, right? Now, when they grew up, the youngest brother ended up getting a very good job, and the older brother got a job there too, but the youngest brother got the promotion. And turned out to be the boss of my older brother, the jealousy and the resentment was so obvious. My point is I can't imagine being in the royal family and having your sister be the queen and you have to curtsy to her and you know she decides who you marry who you don't that must have been horrible on the grander scale LOL

Good Morning Neil and all chums here today 👋👋👋. King George VI used to call his daughters his 'joy and delight'. Princess Elizabeth was his 'joy' and Princess Margaret his 'delight'. He and the Queen Mum could see Margaret was inclined to be hotheaded and wilful even then. She had to experience the full force of the natural phases of human development that the rest of us who survive to old age have to go through. This was unlike her older sister who's life was largely mapped out for her, where her actions and reactions were formerly predetermined by virtue of her position and role in national life! Our beloved Queen Elizabeth had Prince Philip to support her and walk alongside her and her manifest wisdom and 'soft power diplomacy' grew with her as she aged. Princess Margaret was not so supported and caused herself a lot of pain and injury in her maturation process.

It is a pity that there is not a clearly defined role for the "spare" to be productive. Princess Margaret, Prince Andrew, Prince Harry all "got into trouble" because they were allowed to "do their own thing" even if it reflected badly on the Monarchy.

I've always found the relationship between Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret fascinating for two reasons. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, Prince William and his brother Harry. What is it about close siblings that can cause friction, jealousy and even worse? I'm sure a writer and psychologist could write a fascinating book on those two famous pairs of siblings. And yes, I am speaking from experience 🤐.

🇭🇲🦘👋 I'm actually Not surprised that (at the time) Princess Margaret did 'concern' herself with Wallis
Simpson, and (in some ways) even 'befriend' Wallis Simpson. Especially after the death of Edward VIII, who Wallis had married after his abdication. However, I found this story very interesting.
Of course! Unlike her sister (Queen Elizabeth II) Princess Margaret could think and feel more differently than the Queen, and the Queen Mother thought, regarding Wallis Simpson; and while I understand this, I can also fully understand the 'stance' taken by the Queen and the Queen Mother. I actually believe that the whole family were MORE upset with the behaviour of Edward VIII (at the time) than they were with that of Wallis Simpson; with Wallis in a no-win situation, no matter what she did. I also do Not believe that Wallis had ever intended to marry Edward. She was a party girl, much like Princess Margaret was, and liked parties and having a good time etc. Hence! Princess Margaret could see Wallis Simpson's point of view.
Nevertheless! The sisters (Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret) were (for the most part) very close, loyal, and devoted to each other; but with the normal differences that can (and do) take place between siblings. While not always agreeing with each other; always there for eachother, when it mattered the most.
A very interesting piece of Royal History, and so very well 'presented' by you. "Thank you" Neil xx 👔⭐👋

Good morning my dear Lyndell, wonderful to hear from you and share your warm words, always a joy. I hope you are feeling well and keeping cool, you have always been been in my thoughts and prayers. We had a magical walk on Abberfraw beach the other day, the sun was shining, blue sky, calm and idyllic, I did think of you, it was perfect. Kasey and Bayley hadva ball, Bayley gliding like a Gisele and Kasey running her little legs off, their energy was electric. When we got to the sea, it glistened in the morning sunshine surrounded by the Snowdonia mountains standing loud and proud. It was really wonderful. Kasey has been a bit off again since, but she sniffs like no tomorrow at everything so you never know what she us picking up, but today she is better again, on the land of nod, but sends you a big hug, as do Merry and Shadow who are watching with me here.🫂. We had some new windows fitted the other day, my it was manic, cats flying everywhere to get away and Kasey and Bayley wanting to help the guys, trying to get in their vans. The glass had blown in the ones they replaced so the new ones look fantastic, even my little birds could see the difference when they were hopping on my window ledge here, they knew something was different. They were here in droves yesterday, doves. Robins, blue tit's, bullfinches and goldfinches, just perfect. Please take care my friend, my prayers and blessings are always with you, you mean so much and your health and happiness so important to me. Much love and positive friendship is sent to you both from all your Anglesey buddies. Hxx👋🙏🙏♥️♥️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌺🐕🐕🫂🫂🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱

Feelings and emotions are a difficult matter, depending on one's personality. It sure isn't easier for the women in the Royal Family.

Sounds like this pair of sisters resemble a certain pair of brothers we all know about. Must be genetic.

We all can be very grateful for Wallis because otherwise Britain would have had a Fascist king and we would be living in a different world.

I come from a seaside resort town in the Netherlands where in the late 40s and early 50s Margaret used to socialise with Noel Coward and his mates . According to staff at the luxury hotel they frequented she was a bit of a playgirl and knew how to party . Locals were religious and set great store on chastity and religious obedience . She must have shocked them with what they called her “ wild ways “ and she was frequently the talk of the town . Poor lass , being famous 😊was not without its cost . I’m sure her behaviour today would be dismissed as someone enjoying their life
