Here is a brief account for those wondering where the monarchy gets their money and how it is spent. In a nutshell, the taxpayers of the United Kingdom pay £1.29 each to keep the royal family and all that goes with it. A summary of the key financial figures from the 2022-2023 Royal Accounts:
    1. Total Sovereign Grant: £86.3 million, divided into £51.8 million for core funding and an additional £34.5 million for Buckingham Palace maintenance.
    2. Monarchy's Official Net Expenditure: £107.5 million, an increase of 5% or £5.1 million from the previous year.
    3. Queen’s Funeral Cost: £1.6 million, funded by the Sovereign Grant.
    4. Platinum Jubilee Expenditure: £700,000, including £300,000 allocated in 2022-2023.
    5. Staffing: 517 full-time equivalent positions funded, an increase from 491, with a total wage bill of £27.1 million.
    6. Housekeeping and Hospitality Expenses: £2.4 million, a rise from £1.3 million.
    7. Official Royal Travel: £3.9 million, a decrease of about 13% from £4.5 million.
    8. Helicopter Travel: £1.02 million for 179 journeys by the royal family.
    9. Charter Flights to Rwanda: £186,571 for the King and Queen’s travel to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
    10. Charter Flights to Germany: £146,219 for the King and Queen’s state visit in March 2023.
    11. Domestic Charter Flight: £25,687 for the King's travel from Aberdeen to Northolt in October 2022.
    12. Sovereign Grant Cost per UK Resident: £1.29 overall, and 77p for the core grant excluding Buckingham Palace renovations.

Very good breakdown. The Sovereign Grant of course comes from the revenue of the Crown Estate which goes, in its entirety, to the Treasury.
For those who say that a Republic is cheaper than a monarchy, the office of the French president costs €115 million whilst the office of the American president costs $750 million, with just air travel costing in excess of $100 million. All of which comes from general taxation.

The Queen Mother was a narcissist who put on a sugary display for the public, and schemed to force the King to abdicate. She treated her daughter Margaret terribly, as Margaret had lesser status to Elizabeth. When Elizabeth became Queen, her mother fought hard to stay at Buckingham Palace. Compare that to Q Victoria who, aged 18 or 19, kicked her controlling mother either out of the palace or to the other side of the palace to get her out of the way and show her who was in charge.
Q Mother was responsible for bringing the disturbed Diana Spencer into the family, spreading mental illness into their genes. A stupid decision that is starting to destroy the monarchy as we can see today.

She wasn't in debt , she left a large will in a trust managed by princess Anne.
The "debt" is for tax purposes, if a person is in debt ( puts their money in a trust and let her expenses accumulate ) then that person doesn't have to pay any TAXES . And her children can clear that debt.
So in short she went into debt to not pay inheritance tax while her accumulated assets sit in a trust .
Fyi earlier royals didn't need to pay taxes but in the 90s the royals "voluntarily " announced they would be paying taxes after a public backlash.
So this technical "debt" is to protect the will from taxation.

It was the strain of being King during the war that started George's health decline, and that is one of the reasons why the QM and the rest of the RF never forgave Edward and Wallis. George was never prepared nor cut out to be King, as it was always assumed the charismatic and more confident Edward would rule. When Edward took the unprecedented step of abdicating because he wanted to marry Wallis, that thrust George into the limelight, together with the heavy responsibility of wartime leadership. As things turned out, it was Britain's gain, not loss. Edward always thought Hitler would restore him to the throne (as puppet King) if Germany won the war.

I’m more concerned by the feckless debt of 2.5 TRILLION debt run up by this generation’s politicians for our children and grandchildren to repay. It takes 34000 years to count to 1 trillion
Also the cost of housing, because politicians permit banks to PRINT the money they lay out on mortgage. Without this, the average house would cost £75,000 rather than £300,000

In 1994 the Queen Mother placed two-thirds of her money fortune - an estimated £19m - into a trust fund for her great grandchildren, a gamble, at the age of 94, that she would live for another seven years and so avoid paying 40% tax. That hurdle was cleared in 2001 - less than a year before she died.

Marriage to the Queen gave him a family, palaces and a life full of unearned luxury and extravagance. Still, he complained.

Well, my grandmother bought a rabbit for 6d and skinned it carefully.
She sold the skin back to the rabbit man the next time he called.
The rabbit was either baked or stewed and divided between herself, husband, and children.
They grew their own vegetables and fruit and Granny made huge rice puddings, jam rolly pollies, Suet puddings, lardy cakes and rhubarb pies
A chicken was generally treated the same way.
Her husband, as the man of the house, received all the breast meat. The girls received one drum stick each, and Granny ate the wings.
      A roast did several days.
The cold meat minced for cottage pie and / or roast beef sandwiches with the meat going firstly to my grandfather.
Dripping was kept in a bowl for dripping sandwiches.
My grandmother was a cardplayer and attended all the nearby whist-drives. The prize was usually a large goose, and Gran won most of them.
Gran got work picking fruit or working in the fields at harvest time or helping in the Duke's kitchens when they had a large party.
The children made money opening gates for the Hunt when the Duke rode to hounds.
Everyone collected the drppings left by delivery carts or ridden horses or driven livestock for their gardens or to sell.
My Grandfather walked the beat or rode a bicycle as the village policeman.
The biggest case of his career was a trio of stolen geese that Granny looked after as they were "evidence"
Granny's parents kept their own bee hives, garden and orchard and made their own cider and Great Granny baked and decorated wedding cakes for a living ( born 1850 's lived to be 99 years old).
My father's parents employed servants who worked in the kitchens and on our farm as farm labourers.
And my grandfather was responsible for his widowed sisters ( from WW1) and their children; and for his niece when his brother's wife scandalised the family by running off.
He paid for a three storey house; a floor for each sister and for the boarding and school fees for his nephews and nieces.
He bought a dairy farm with a cider orchard and shire horses for my father who was an overly indulged, restless and spoilt teenager in the hope that the reponsibility would settle him down.
My father attended an elite private school in Bristol, sent his shirt collars to the " Chinese laundry" and had gold studs for his shirt fronts and was considered " County" and attended the Hunt Balls.
He had his own sailing boat at one time and drove a beautiful convertible car.
Like the Queen Mother, he was raised to an Edwardian lifestyle and never completely adjusted to postwar austerity, while my village raised mother helped work the farm, had a night nursing assistant job, and kept boarders to make ends meet.
( The marriage was not seen as a good match by his parents. My mother's parents were thrilled she had married "up")
In the 1960s, he did what many improvident men did, abandoned his mistresses and extra marital families and debts and moved ( fled) to Australia with his wife and six - soon to be seven children.
In Australia, he astonished us by learning to " lag" and weld and worked as a builder, being known as " Sam" rather than " Mr x" and he and my mother settled into a very happy prosperous blue collar Ozzie lifestyle.

She didn't. She never visited India.
Money from Indian taxpayers went to the various Indian Governments for roads, hospitals etc.
She was sent jewellery by the Indian Rajahs and the Nazim as presents ( many elite Indians were educated in England and moved in upper class circles).
Lord Mountbatten ( Prince Philip's uncle)and his wife were Britain's envoys and were wined, dined and feted by the Indian Govt.
Many colonial administrators were British and acted to influence/ control Indian politics and such as trade, etc
The British benefited in India by being the Senior army officers, area Administrators, running the tea plantations, senior engineers, as tutors and educators, doctors to the Indian upper castes.
But the money did not flow to King George and his wife.
By this stage they ( the Monarchy)were the living symbols of British power in India but the Goverment and Administrators controlled the economy
