thank you!!!
The Talmud , "Dreams are 1/60 prophecy." Agrippa, "Those are rookie numbers, you gotta bump those numbers up."
Agrippa: Don't conjure spirits.
Also Agrippa: Here are some spirit seals, tables, and an entire chapter on how to bind spirits (Book III, chapter 33).

The more I learn about Agrippa the more I appreciate what a fascinating person he was. Thank you for this series!
Every time I think of "hailing" an angel I think of hailing a cab and picture Micael driving a yellow cab really fast in Manhattan.
Yeah, that's about right but Friday at 5pm
Great movie idea.
I mean, why not? An angel cab driver is more likely than you think! And not just cinematically!
Equalizer…but with an angelic twist

That was awesome! What a treat. This might be my favorite episode so far since it contained so much useful practical information.
Truly a master in the making
The predecessor to Zen's Zazen was Silent Illumination (developed by Chan Master Hongzhi Zhengjue, 1091-1157 CE). In that practice you were to Silence your discriminating mind so that Illumination would enter. Emptiness is impartial, equal, ever unmoving, and permeates everything.
53:40: Agrippa being silent because felicity being a state beyond any language, reminds me of Taoism's famous phrase "The Tao that can be told of is not the absolute Tao", that any attempted description is not the "true Tao".
Or Plotinus, Augustine, pseudo-dyonisios, the hernetica, etc
I love that one from Tao Te Ching! Thanks for this bonus treat.
So much information. Thank you again Dr. Sledge for sharing 🖤
"Your video is simply extraordinary, capturing the essence of the topic with clarity and depth that captivates and inspires!"☺
CS Lewis' "That Hideous Strength" in the final chapters, gives, I think, a good sense of how the planetary intelligences work while still being within a Platonized Christian framework.
THANK YOU for these highly interesting videos on very WELL AND BRIGHT TOPICS
The (perhaps superficial) parallelism between The Three Books and Zen Buddhism is astonishing. The words are the same (in English, of course) describing similar phenomena.
Who knew that my OG would be this dude from history, his name is DOPE AF!
If Agrippa the Ripper was alive now he'd tear it up spitting bars with straight up WORDS that rap harder, meaner than any other!💯🔥💪🤙🤘✌️
Freaking wow. To have an expert explain these mysterious often hinted at, often misrepresented ideas of historic esotericism is amazing. Just wow. Peace.
Hi,,thank you and your patrons.
Thank YOU Justin.
Such a gift to humanity 💜
This is brilliant! Thank you, Justin. Im learning so much.
Thank you so much! I cannot say how much I enjoy your channel.
I didnt tube yesterday, but im glad i didnt miss this 🙏
It's so crazy that this isn't all there is to say about Agrippa, or the Three Books. This series has been fascinating! Thank you.
Thank you & Thank You, for this..!🙏🏾 I WILL Be in the Audience for the rest of the course..👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤗🖖🏾
Wow a lot of info packed into this! (many Key words u share 👍 intentionality, physical conditioning techniques/ritual) That’s a whole lotta work u put into this series...Agrippa classification system is quite elaborate...good so other people don’t have to re-invent the wheel...but there are other ways..(before books)..life has many paths. "Power over nature"...today might be worded..."the ability to influence happenstance"...Dionysus-Zagreus (2 heads/2 names) prolly found the most entertaining path.. :P
This is indeed better than magic :) great lecture, thank you
So, all you need is love? Love? I never thought of Agrippa as the source material for The Magical Mystery Tour. As I type this, though, it seems logical that seekers of truth will find similar truths on their path. Thank you, Dr Sledge, for making the opaque translucent.
The flow state is, indeed, "better than magic(k)."
Please keep coming to the lectures! We don't want Professor Sledge to start grading us on attendance!
Very engaging series, good episode
This Agrippan philosophy reminds me of the Far East holy men who achieve magical divine abilities as a side effect of purity and ritual.
Interesting to suddenly realize what the high level Demons in Pier's Anthony's Xanth series are based upon.
Meister Eckhart (c.1260-c.1328) was a German Catholic priest, theologian, philosopher & mystic.
Cornelius Agrippa (1486-1535) was a German polymath, physician, theologian & occult writer.
So Agrippa came up with a really convoluted way of acheiving illumination, a 'state-of-mind' described in a very similar manner to what Meister Eckhart attained and explained, in a fairly straightforward manner, over 200 years earlier.
And both were on the verge of being considered heretics.
Magick and mysticism, they are complementary
"fairly straightforward manner" Dafuq?
@@TheEsotericaChannel I consider both Meister Eckhart’s & ‘The Cloud of Unknowing’ methods to be rather simplistic (i.e., straightforward) methods, that don’t work very well, in the sense that you need to spend a lot of time (in a monastery?) emptying out yourself, while basking in the adoration of God.
That’s why I practiced a modern version of Silent Illumination, described in Chan Master Sheng Yen’s (2012) “The Method of No Method: The Chan Practice of Silent Illumination.” While practicing I happened upon a shorter version that brought me to illumination/kensho several years ago. You ‘just’ have to stop thinking (first by watching your thoughts come and go, and then fade away the desire for the next thought), then awareness shifts into a nondual state. Eventually it wore off, but it was quite an experience.
I think im now getting an Agrippa on this felicity thing
worst pun I've read all day, thank you very much for it
This is course is incredible, Justin!
Not that it's needed, but I would add that compelling God to move into "oneself" (or one's no-self) is literally how Eckhart talks about detachment*, something he probably conveyed under the influence of Porete - who's kenotic crescendo ofc was both an example and a complete rebel to her fellow Beguine's theology. Mechtild and Hadewijch would go for the push-pull seduction of minne as you mentioned, yes. Anyways, this is Eckhart in On Detachment, right at the opening:
"...yet I praise detachment above all love. First, because the best thing about love is that it compels me to love God, yet detachment compels God to love me."
*McGinn's translation of the term Gelassenheit, which could also be yielding or submission
The part i ended up finding more interesting is how he connects with the history and other people and their own theories of that time period
Thanks!
thank you for these!
I'm definitely sticking around for the full course, especially for the Vanity of Arts & Sciences.
I'm really interested in English Renaissance literature, and there are so many references to the De incertitundine in the Elizabethan-Jacobean era, pretty sure they greatly outnumber references to Agrippa's De occulta philosophia.
Oh definitely about the vanitate
@@TheEsotericaChannel
My favorite is from Thomas Nashe:
I must know how you define an Ass before I can tell how to answer you, for Cornelius Agrippa maketh all the Philosophers, Orators and Poets that ever were, Asses. And if so you understand that I allege no Author but the Ass, for all Authors are Asses, why I am for you...
That's a real gem!
@@TheEsotericaChannel I do wonder, and I know I'm not alone in this, if Bottom's head being transformed into the head of an Ass in A Midsummer Night's Dream could be an allusion to Agrippa's digression on the Ass.
Thanks for another strong vessel of intelligence
The whole "trying to reach transcendence via mysticism/magical techne " things reminds me a lot of taoist alchemy and qi cultivation
Yes please
I bought an Agrippa four book collection from Black Letter Press. Hopefully, I'm not biting off more than I can chew.
If you're not at least doing so a tiny bit, you're not doing it right, right?
My belief is that all humans have a guardian angel, so to simplify we all need to establish contact…
I believe we all are in contact with them continuously but in a varied degree. Maybe you meant you want people to be more conscious of the connection?
wait... what? Angels have one leg? How have I never heard of this before?
Thanks, great stuff. One comment, I don't agree that felicity is instead of magic. He is silent about it, but his felicity is the same as the devekut that Ibn Ezra talks about - כאשר ידע החלק את הכל ידבפ בכל ויחדש בכל אותות ומופתים
So I think that felicity for him provides the actual magical powers.
He's pretty clear that one can obtain magical powers even through doing evil in witchcraft. In fact he even says that Felicity is better than magic and higher than it.
@@TheEsotericaChannel Yes, but I read that as still including magic
The church:"Agrippa you're a sorcerer, this is magick."
Agrippa:"How dare you sir, this is felicity, and I got it from annoying the divines myself!"
Sleep is 1/60th of death. No wonder I resent it so much.
Sleep is death’s younger brother. But your mind and body regenerates during sleep. And karma makes up for the difference in the after life.
I've never read karma to work that way, though I've certainly heard enough people misuse the word. 😆
I am reminded that felicitas as unio mystica is not unlike the unio mystica of st deny
I'm sure they're exactly the same.
Yes i second that!
Is Felicity the same as Sofia?
36:36 but don't the 72 Goetic demons correspond in fact to the 72 Angels of the Shemhamephorash? And ceremonial magicians that practice both sides of this correspondence understand this, notwithstanding the balking of Agrippa himself? And with the idea that everything, including even the Sitra Achra has its place and Celestial corresponding counterpart makes them workable for modern day and I imagine for early magick practitioners? What may not have a place so to speak is random violent destructive chaos? And any errant demon would have a "lawful evil" demon boss to answer to? It's the ones that are seemingly answerable only to themselves that I think of keeping at arm's length, in fact the length of the Creator's arm, if you will. The correspondence on either side of both seeming divides attests to cosmic legitimacy and universe's endorsement and mobster-like sponsorship. It's when they seem to be almost a private army of a transnational cartel answerable to no one, not say to a civilian-led nation, for example, that I'm wary of? 37:40 I'm decidedly on the side of arguing for the birthright, if you will, of humanity's accessibility to Kabbalistic/biblical Angels/Archangels through asking, ceremony, and mysticism/esotericism (mileages as you say may vary) based on assertions of practice, biblical narratives, histories, new thought, their being seen as aloof, unapproachable doesn't jive (notwithstanding the fearsome but doable Sword of Moses that calls for utmost attention and integrity for the sake of one's life and sanity.) As for the famous popstar who has I think done, and at least entertained, the kindly social media thing of attending proms when able when asked on social media, notwithstanding that verifiable good press/good actions niche bit of bringing a measure of joy into the world to others, I disagree with the position that they, the Shem angels of the Name, can't be approached respectfully and even asked directly, systemically/systematically or even spontaneously. Apocryphal, folk, and modern-day mundane stories are plentiful with meeting angels. The Bible is filled with such stories. There's no reason to assume that they're suddenly somehow aloof and can't be reached so why even bother to consider. Wait, why even have books about it? I thought it was MacGregor and Mathers and colleagues who propagated unintended errors of thought and conceptions, from their worldviews. I'm totally misunderstanding midstream, aren't I? I'm losing my agrippa, aren't I?
I just feel like there's gotta be innate inherent benefits of goodness in doing good deeds and in the practices other than as a means to an end. I mean, that's likely why the concept of grace, spontaneous mystical experience, glimpses granted and so forth exist, otherwise it DOES solely become akin to a kind of materialist storming of the gates of heavens (which there is that in some way) via turnkey process or even recipe which we know, at any level, is not often the case in how it works? Even magick has its measure of probabilities of success based on a ton of factors centered on the practitioner and then there's even the thing of shifting probabilities themselves... I'm in real time shedding the catholicism I grew up with vehemently as I go through the episode/s of Agrippa's worldview! We're ultimately bound in some way, even if iconoclastic, to the milieu and culture we find ourselves in, even if it's as rebellion, as a response. No MLK without the RCC...
Not in the comprehension or description, but Being. God's name "I AM", the first person of Being.
It’s like his personal yearbook.
Great video!
Regarding the venus
Is there then a sort of link with the soul's desire for connection that one approximates god via worship, that is via veneration, venusification. A frenzy of adoration
Veneration and worship are very tricky topics at this time. See the previous lectures on dulia and latria. In general, it's possible but definitely not any veneration of planetary intelligences for Agrippa.
@@TheEsotericaChannel i misspoke. Not that veneration is directed at venus but that the influence of venus (that is love) is what propels the soul into approaching the divine
Yeah, it can act as a kind of 1st stage booster rocket before the main engine (Divine Illumination) kicks in
I just had a realization, especially with the Taylor Swift reference which then broke my perspective into the mundane.
All this rituals and obsession, is just like celebrity stalkers, fasting, not drinking water, getting specific clothings etc, all are like obsessive rituals to try and break into God's house and it all turned real creepy. Its the exact same mentality, mindset, thought-pattern, and behavior stalkers have. "Maybe she will notice me if i do all of this weird bizarre things"
God just like Taylor Swift, will just get creeped out and call the cops on you (sure, lots of lights and noise!) and place you on a restraining order. Sure the guy in jail might feel like he was touched by God after breaking into her house sniffing Taylor's panties, but thats not a real state of illumination, just fanaticism being rewarded in their own mind, self-delusion.
which means this entire approach cannot possibly work. Illumination must come from a different sort of behaviours, like the reflection in pewter, he was not attempting to reach god or undergoing any weird self-destructive behaviours, he was just doing his thing, living his life the best he could, and THAT attracted God's attention.
As someone who has to deal with the reality of parasociality - I can see your point.
@@TheEsotericaChannel I can imagine, especially since you are outwardly Jewish, and on top of it offer unbiassed and historically complete information, such as the series on Yahweh and changing from a god in a pantheon towards a single goodhood, a lot of people do not wanna touch that, as its seen as tantamount to heresy/sacrilege... Probably will tick a lot of people the wrong way.
Thanks for your work!
Does anyone else notice that it seems like the achievement of Felicity sounds a lot like Knowledge and Conversation with the Holy Guardian Angel?
18:57 if one were to remain in the ecstatic state for a period of time can they then achieve felicity? It other words; once one has achieved an ecstatic state and they remain completely present, completely alert, without any attachments, or reaction of any kind, can they gain a complete comprehension of the ecstatic state? If one has this comprehension could they then be at ease in ecstasy? If one were to make this contradiction fixed would this now be the state of felicity?
I hope my question is clear, i know it’s not a well thought and i kinda feel stupid for even asking lol. But I am asking with sincerity. Not sure I’ll ever find an answer, or if there even is one. but I suppose I’m okay with all of this.
What font(s) do you use in your thumbnails? Love these lectures btw!

Whoa wait. Angels only have one leg?
Yeah, seraphim....as much as Seraphim are angels (they're not)
@TheEsotericaChannel Seraph are not Angels? Well technically in the hierarchy, true. But understood colloquially, I would think they are. Also, on the flip side, but not too far on the other side/ sitra achra, are the goetia self-identified and numerically corresponding to the Shem angels and not necessarily self-identifying affiliated as "Goetic?" They're not exactly X-Men or Avengers, which themselves have come to be formal but also flexible? And only their correspondence to the Shem Angels is what's definitive? If they're not Angels, by rank, they'd still be of the same "species" as Angels. If not, then the Enochian spirits would be less so since they do not have corresponding affiliations? They seem like a powerful private army not beholden by oath to a flag and that's quite intimidating, if not troubling enough to give pause....
