    Thank you so much for all your videos. I watched a lot of them 2 weeks before my exam, especially all your parallel parking videos. I used a pick up truck during my road test and I passed in one take with lots of good comments from the examiner! I believe it’s all because of your tips. I didn’t even go to a driving instructor. I will definitely recommend you to all my friends taking their road test in Alberta. I don’t comment on YT vids but I just can’t thank you enough for all your efforts here. 🙂

I was way to confident, thank you thank you for their video I’m going to go practice and calm down (it was snowing and overall bad weather to boot) so I can pass it next time. I even drove for TDCJ, so hearing that tap again the pole was shocking and demoralizing. I got this now!

    You saved my bacon. I practiced and practiced and just couldn't get a perfect parallel park with our Ford Expedition, the only vehicle I had available to me. I finally found this video the morning of my test, but couldn't practice because my husband was at work (he left the truck at the test centre for me). Using horizon reference points instead of vehicle reference points gave me the best parallel park of my life during my exam. A+ video, A+ park job :-)

    Excellent advice Rick this also applies for minivans and Commercial Vans like Ford Transit Mercedes-Benz Sprinter provided you have to take a commercial license vehicle Class C test for those or a minivan that has a center console brake

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 года назад

      Hi EpicThe112 - Thank you for the additional information Epic. Yes, these skills would work for vans too. On commercial vans you'd have to do a bit of experimenting about how far to pull up beside the other vehicle because you wouldn't have a rear window. It might be different in other places, but here in British Columbia they don't usually have parallel park a small bus for a road test. All the best, Cheers Rick

    I tried parking my dad’s 2012 Honda odyssey in a narrow drive way and left a few scratches on the back left door and the driver’s seat door. We just got the car yesterday and I took it out by myself for a spin. I was going crazy and felt like my heart would explode after hearing those scrapes. I then went to check them out and saw they weren’t too bad. They’re still ugly scratches. But easily fixable ones although costly. I told my dad in shame but he was understandably not that mad. He said I’m a new driver and that it’s fine because they are just scratches that can be fixed. They’ll cost about $1000 or more if insurance doesn’t cover it. But it’s coming out of my pocket so that’s fine. I caused it so it makes sense that I fix it up. The car is silver and the scratches aren’t that visible from a far distance. But still anyone would be bothered with having those on their cars. And damn the people who built our driveway. It was way too narrow for a big minivan like an odyssey.

    • @randykitchleburger2780

      They are deep into the paint? If their just clear coat scratches you can fix them yourself for about $50

    How far do you need to stay away from the curb when you parallel park?

  • @ScottDLR
    @ScottDLR 3 года назад +2

    When I passed the test many, many years ago, The parallel parking was the only part I was scared of. So I made sure I was good with everything else and then when the day came, I just jammed it in the spot and left it at that. The inspector asked if I wanted to try again. "No, I'm good". That was the only part I failed so my licence was issued.
    My advice is not to sweat it unless you suck overall.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  3 года назад +1

      Hi Scott - thanks for your comment my friend. Yes, examiners are looking to see if you have due car and control of the vehicle overall. If you're a good driver for the most part, and only one area is weak, usually you'll pass. All the best, Cheers Rick

    • @angryfence3928
      @angryfence3928 2 года назад

      I failed because I didn’t look behind me the whole time I was parallel parking. And I did pretty okay. I just got used to using the front of the vehicle to judge my angles.

    The only difference is the space. What sucks about larger vehicles is people don't leave enough space to park in the city unless its downtown because in downtown they put lines to make sure any vehicle could fit.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 года назад

      Hi Chris UK - No doubt, they're not ideal for big cities my friend. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Perhaps another way to do this, if said large vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler, is to just have the doors and roof removed at the time of the driver's test. This could, in effect, eliminate blind areas.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 года назад +1

      Hi Alex Derus - Thank you for your suggestion. I'm not sure that an examiner would go out with you in such a vehicle - even though it's technically road worthy!?! And with all that road noise, it would be hard to hear the examiner. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Good video with the exception should have not used a back-up camera and forget looking out the back window could be a canopy or other obstacles blocking your vision. I feel if you get your licence on a small passenger vehicle you should be restricted to driving them. If you want to drive a larger vehicle like a pick-up, full size van or SUV take a test on one. At one time in B.C. you could not take a test on a vehicle over 2700 kg and until you took a test on a vehicle in excess of that weight could not operate.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 года назад

      Hi James Oldman - Thank you for your comment. When backing any vehicle it's important to use the tools that you have at hand. In the video you see that I'm mostly using the mirrors; but the backup camera shows you that there isn't anything in the blind area directly to the rear of the vehicle. When taking a driver's test--doesn't matter what vehicle you're in--examiners want you to look out the rear window. So we give them what they want. Unfortunately, DMVs don't have the personnel to have additional tests for larger vehicles. And if it was tough to get a test before, it's going to be nigh impossible now in the post-COVID-19 era. All the best, Cheers Rick

      You're correct about the reliability - it's questionable. I would do a lot of research my friend. Both about Rams in general, and the truck that you're going to buy.
