    I worked with Dish for eight years from 2008-2016 as a dish technician. I got into the point to be a level 4 tech, and it was a great job. The metrics got too difficult to meet when you are a level 4 tech, especially when they included sales on the job like screen cleaners, surge protectors, home theaters, and TV mounts. It got to a point that managers got too pushy with the sales. If you didn't sell well during a week, they started giving you too much in the office. Why are you not selling many things? etc.. Before they included the sales requirements, it was a good job. Some jobs were easy and some difficult. I loved it when they had directv, and it was just basically replacing the dish and using the same cables. But some jobs were bad. A six room installation and no cables run in any of the rooms.

      Congrats man! I know a lot about dish equipment/satellites because it’s been a little hobby for me since 2019 and it’s honestly kind of fun. You will like it. Any questions give me a holler and I might be able to answer. I will tell you something cool because you said you are in the middle TN/Nashville area, in southern Illinois, I can get the Nashville locals like WKRN, WSMV etc… on both the eastern arc and western arc and I’m 150 miles out of the viewing area and a 3 hour drive from Nashville. It’s like this because I am in in range of the spotbeams and transponders that those locals are on. I’ve figured anything over 300 miles away from my location will not work and it says you are outside of viewing area or complete signal loss.

      get used to it, thats the direction of the majority of the industry. From restaurants to tech jobs. There’s always a sale opportunity within service. It goes hand in hand, and many people overlook it.
      Think about it, you go for a brake replacement at the shop and the mechanic notices your brake line are leaking. Making the suggestion to also replace the line is a sale otherwise he would just do your brakes and move on.

  • @Zer0ctopus7
    @Zer0ctopus7 6 месяцев назад

    Im about to start training as a tech, but during the interviews, they REALLY drove home the point that SALES of their other products is what's going to determine how well im paid. Never done sales before. In serious need of advice. Besides "find a different job." I want to be good at it.

    • @jdf9456
      @jdf9456 4 месяца назад

      Might be late but this was my downfall, I actually enjoyed the job and met a lot of cool people and cool stories, but it got tiring having awesome work yet getting chewed out daily because I didn't sell a $50 plastic electrical adapter you can get better on Amazon for $20 or demo an $1000 sound bar to old ladies on social security. I would say give it a shot and if sales really isn't your thing you will have a few months to start looking elsewhere before they really start ringing your neck over sales, also if you're dead set on being good at sales you gotta try and trick customers into thinking they "Need" the upgraded HDMI cables for $50, Power outlet specifically for the Joeys, etc. I just couldnt do it.

    • @Zer0ctopus7
      @Zer0ctopus7 4 месяца назад +1

      @@jdf9456 Same, I wound up telling them "this is no way to run businesses, and that they should feel ashamed", to keep it short. You could tell that they definitely were, too. Now, I'm delivering for Papa John's until I find the best fit for an actual life-long career. The company is only still in existence because of poor elderly people. Sickening.

    • @jdf9456
      @jdf9456 4 месяца назад +1

      @Zer0ctopus7 Yeah you made the right call, Dish wastes millions on hiring new techs every year, but if they stopped forcing current Techs to be soulless snake oil salesmen, they would have far less turnover and save so much. I think they have maybe 5 years left before bankruptcy. Good luck on the next venture in life!

      @Zer0ctopus7 4 месяца назад +1

      @@jdf9456 Thanks, that means a lot, and I hope the same for you and every working class man/woman. I also think 5 years is a generous call.
