Do you know that the Braga funicular is the oldest In the world still In use ? Do you know that Braga was the capital of the germanic suevic Kingdom from 411 a d. to 585 a.d. (they came from Stuttgart area from nowadays german state of Baden Württemberg) and it was one of the oldest, if not the oldest Christian Kingdom In Europe ? And do you know that the suevic descends were the ones that originated the "Portucalense" nobles that lead them to create the Portuguese Kingdom In 1143 ? And, do you know that Braga It's not the most ancient city in Portugal ? The most ancient city, by far, is Lisbon (circa 400 years older than Rome) and founded in 1.200 b.c. by the fenicians, and it is the second oldest european capital after Athens ?

Fun to see Braga through someone else’s eyes :)
Been living here a little more than a year and a half and absolutely love living here. Can’t say it’s for everyone, but for the people who are looking for what it has to offer it’s a great place to call home :)
Great choice of tacos place! The couple from Mexico who own/operate that place are very sweet people 😁
And great choice to check out 100° Pagina, and yes living here it’s a great place to sit and relax and get away from things and enjoy the sun in the summer.
I walk by that hotel almost every day and have been to some events there but never knew how big the rooms there were, very interesting to see!

The haircut style is called Tonsure and is a religious devotional style showing humility. Franciscan monks and other Christians wore it by shaving the area. Neat video and we really look forward to a vist to Braga for the Roman festival. The food and sites are interesting.

In Bom Jesus you have too try the upside down road wich is a road that's going up but when you put your car in the beginning of the road you car is going up by itself. This is a very incredible and unexpicable event which you have to try if you go in this city (you can find video of that on youtube)

Saude.

Trivia: In the north of Portugal if you enter some place and forget to close the door people might say "És de Braga'?" It means "Are you from Braga?". It's a good humoured taunt to make you close the door. The expression's origin lies in the fact that the "door" to Braga is always open (actually it isn't even there), so people who forget to close the door are assumed to be from Braga. Don't try saying this in Lisbon, very few people will understand it. I'm not sure but I don't think they say it in Braga, it's probably mostly an expression used in Porto...

    Great video!
    I hope you enjoyed Braga!
It was pity you didn't filmed the Triumphant Procession of Braga Romana!
The accordion players we see at the end of the video is called "Concertinas in Braga", They are people who gather every week to sing and dance, these encounters are very popular in the villages, towns and cities in the region of Minho!
In Portugal there are many popular expressions about Braga, like "Ver Braga por um canudo“Seeing Braga for a straw”, that means "to be close to a goal but can't reach it"!
Now you will have to return to Braga for festival of São João de Braga, the biggest in Portugal, between June 16 and 25.

Portuguese lesson of the day - Bracara is pronunced the same way as Braga, with the stress in the first "a": [Brá-ga], [Brá-cara]. You pronunced it like [Bra-cára].
By the way, "página" is another example, it's not [pa-gína] like you said. The ´ accent indicates where the stress is in the word. 🙂

ok Braga didnt change its name in the 1500s, it actually was rebaptized from Bracara Augusta to Braga by the Suebis who came from central and northeastern Europe and who made it their Capitol city.
It was later conquered by the Visigoths, burned down by the muslims and reconquered by the casteleans and then became an extremely important city in terms of religion for the whole Iberian Peninsula.

I guess touring through Braga could be «Bragging» too... no pun intended at all.
Braga has that very (pre)historical background, and yet succeeded in being the youngest city in Portugal (age average).
