  • Service engine light, Service 4WD light and Anti-skid light on, tansmission feels like it's slipping, won't go into park electronicly (even though it is in park physically), ignition won't shut off due to not being in park, therefore engine won't shut off.
    Update:
After a week in the shop, the mechanic fixed the problem. Turns out it was a valve body, internal to the transmission.

Sounds like you have been realky unlucky, sir. Ran a jeep for years and no problems ever. Had a brand new BMW Z4 and it was always going into safe-mode (throttle sensor replaced 3 times and motherboard replaced once). Luckily under warranty because I am not a lottery winner. To other viewers... if you buy used make sure you have at least 1 year warranty because any problems like that usually show up sooner rather than later. Most brands have horror stories. You would not BELIEVE the weird shit my 2012 XJ does if I let the battery go low. Knowing your vehicle's quirks and hacks will save you £1000's in unecessary bills. And never skimp on parts or servicing. Even experts get unlucky from time to time but a cranky car from a good dealership is often better than buying from a crappy dealer or privately. Hope you get the problem sorted. Thanks for making this video! Keep making them!

I had a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit and mine was having electrical issues where it wouldn't start ...... I replaced two batteries, a fuse box and still it was no luck.... Traded it for the 4runner Limited ....... Make sure before you get this vehicle that you perform a performance check ..........I had mine for only 3 months .......

Wise choice. My JGC 2014 gives me the error message "Service shifter " and gear doesn't change. I'll hit on the shifter like many times and sometimes it comes to life. Sometimes it doesn't. So bad. Jeep quoted me a hefty price for shifter replacement.

  • @frankloschiavo

Hmm.. similar problem but different. I shift to Neutral and turn off the car (habit of having a manual car). Usually the car prevents it by saying shift to Park but it has let me at times. Then, the shift pin locks it into Neutral and the only way to take it out is to use the override cord in the centre console. Issue then is the car isn't aware it's in Park and won't allow me to start. Only solution is to disconnect the battery. It's happened twice and been back to Jeep. First time they did a software update. I didn't bother going back again because they have no idea. I'm hoping they issue a fix. In the meantime, don't switch car off in neutral.

I just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee summit used certified. I didn’t drive it 40 miles before experiencing issues. Drives great and all if a sudden from a stop it won’t shift to 2nd. I threw it in N and back to D. I was on my way to the dealership for this. The computer throws no code that this happen 3 times now! My navigation speed limit is also off 5 to 15 on speed limits

Make sure you're not pulling the shifter lever to the left. If you are, you're putting the transmission into manual and it won't shift until you either shift it manually (push forward or backwards) or push it back to automatic (to the right). It's easy to do this without knowing it. I've done it a few times without realizing it.

Wow, 05Feb2019. I thank everyone for their honest evaluations n experiences. I want a 2019 GC trailhawk so bad I can't sleep. 🤪
I see so many Jeeps on the road up north Michigan its unreal. I hate the Toyota Rav4, but Tundra we have n it's a gas hog with the hemi 5.7l.
These remarks really trouble me since reading them. Guess everyone has issues with vehicles today. So what 4x4 or awd do you buy then? Now the 2019 Caddy XT4 is looking more appealing but at a much higher cost as well. I'd have to use a 6 foot extension to launch my Hobie PA14. Not the ideal rig for fishing environment huh? I really am considering a Jeep GC Trailhawk. Although I don't want continuously taking it to the dealership. My last vehicle for my life, so I'd like a good rig. Any thoughts?

This just happened to me today after a mechanic took it down off the lift from it running at idle speed off the ground for sevreal moments. Nothing was wrong with the vehi9cle however now the ABS, the traction control, backup sensor, 4wd system (causing transmission to slip I also beleive) and power steering are all not functioning I think it is in fact an electrical issue. He was unable to get any sensor reads from the obd2. Apparently there is some sort of connection behind the dash which requires you to remove the navigation assembly. I will post updates when I find out.

Alex Sukstansky So far, this has been my only issue. Jeep's roadside assistance towed me to my local dealer/repair facility and they had me back on the road in less than a week. They also provided me with a rental while I waited. I've had 2 Grand Cherokees before this one and didn't have any major issues with those. Hopefully, this will be the last of the issues with this one. Best of luck with yours.

Friend I have a jeep overland 2011 5.7 hemi in the last few months became a nightmare, electrical faults, a lifter was turning and I hurt the camshaft and had to disassemble half engine to change all the lifters and the camshaft (all your oil changes were in time and with mobile oil 1 synthetic) after a lot of money in the air suspension, change the front shock absorbers, the gear lever has many faults, because now I can not change gears or speeds. It went crazy because if I move the lever to + instead of making upward change it makes them descend and I can not change to D only if I push N and back to D. Now I bring a problem that nobody knows what it is. begins to turn on the brake light without applying the brake, and this causes failures from turning on the skid control warning, service message to suspension code P0703, change the brake pedal switch and nothing the fault continues ... this has risk of damaging the automatic transmission because it could not separate the power of the converter motor from the automatic box, in the last 6 months I could not sell it because I fix some flaw and the week presents another and another, I have had the previous two generations of Jeep Grand Cherokee and I was happy, this generation hate it, everything seems to be failing and I take care of my cars, you really look at the SUV and it looks like new, beautiful black color, the line I love but its faults drove me crazy and I do not stop spending money, the bad thing about this is that having a luxury car like this, the others become ugly, and I do not want to have a vehicle with so much electronics and techno loggia since they are headaches, an example are the LAND ROVER beautiful but equally they are shit, they fail of everything, now that I repair it I hope to sell it and I do not know that SUV can fill me because it is the line that I like the most personal. Greetings and luck

The supercharger bearings failed and I speed sensor replaced 2 years ago and the fan speed sensor is slow to respond. It just hit 65k Miles. Here is my NIGHTMARE STORY with the Electronic Shift Module. Chrysler Customer Care told me Tuff Luck Sucker!
I have a 2017 Jeep GC Limited with 55K miles that had the "Service Shifter" warning light come on. Vehicle ran fine no issues. Made appt. with local Jeep Dealership and drove the Jeep in yesterday (03/29/22). Ran just fine, I just wanted the light cause diagnosed and fixed. Dealership ran a diagnostic on it and informed me it needed an updated software flash. Conducted the Flash. NOW... the vehicle is inoperable without a complete Electronic Shift Module (ESM) replacement. They could not even reverse what they did so I could drive home. What they did was IRREVERSIBLE and I would have to leave the car there until they could find a NEW ESM and install it for $900! I had to take a Uber home and have no vehicle. This is not right for a vehicle with only 55K miles that was running just fine into the Jeep dealership. Please help!
