Great lesson. I've been trying to dissect Hendrix lately as well, and it's all just so unconventional in a way that makes perfect sense. Its playing backwards in many ways.
I hope your nameless project that was hinted at???? Is a Red House solo lesson. No one comes close to the detail and quality instruction that comes out the TXBA Woodshed!!
Hi Anthony. I just wanted to thank you for all the awesome help and tricks you have provided me! i have been following Texas Blues Alley for about a year now, and you have single handedly made my playing alot better. Thank You
Texas Blues Alley Yeah, maybe it's just me.. It just struck me as a funny fingering to play the d on the b string while bending the a with two fingers instead of using your pinky... To me it just looked like a lot of work and moving around in the left hand so it made me wonder :)
watch all the greats and you'll observe most use just 3 fingers and it feels more natural and the stretch is easy it's only one fret plus it enables faster licks somehow using only 3 fingers. the pinky is just not needed
i love the tone you get, those bends sound so sweet........i went to your web site to check out the gear you used and i didn't see any effects pedal, are you really getting that tone plugging straight into an amp?
This is great, thank you! I really wish you'd open up the comments on "Why it's hard to sound like Jimi Hendrix" because there's some interesting discussion to be had there. (You don't have to look :)!) Anyway, cheers, I always get something out of your vids!
The solo in Hey Joe has some unusual phrases too....by that I mean they sound familiar but when you listen to it they are played in a way that is fairly novel for most players.
almost sounds like eddie hazel... dat little riff is pretty similar to maggot brain when you play it slow, the back and forth between 12 and 15 and the jump back to the 15 from the g.
I was wondering if you ever met or studied Denny Freeman....he had a long relationship with SRV.... maybe you didn't know that... Freeman was quite influential
Love that sound ya got going on.Clean and sweet with a bite. You have to start with that primitive sound then add your pedals.Oh bytheway....hendrix was never in tune.Once had to ask Clapton to tune it.
Why didn't you play your guitar the entire time you talked about the difference of Vaughn and Hendrix in your other video?? What was the guitar there for?
HIs just such a big Vaughn fan, so he couldnt hold back.. how the shit are you so messed up to express yourself that shitti to this amazing channel. You're a mess bro
By studying someone else you get to see their creativity and talent, which can inspire your own music. You must listen to other peoples music, so it's not a waste, especially as it's Hendrix too.
What you should do is to study the fundamentals rhythm, harmony and melody, with emphasis on rhythm. Today there are barely any original players because they focus on style "of their idols" and totally skip to try to understand the fundamentals resulting in that we now have a bunch of pale clones which is laughable. Absorb the big guys but study yourself in parallel with deep studies in rhythm, harmony and melody. Play yourself, not a pale imitation of someone else!
Yer I agree, but don't knock the people that worship the 'greats' just because you don't. Heck I started out on pure rock and metal, now I'm actually learning and loving jazz the most!
Hey man, I respect the effort, but I think the problem with your Hendrix Sound is that you are too technical. You learned from the ropes, jimi's style came through his self taught guitar skills, that is why you won't get it. It's unfortunate, but no matter how hard some people try, they won't get a sound like Hendrix. To sound like hendrix, the first step is to not overthink it, just play the guitar, just have the courage to make mistakes while playing and letting them become part of your sound. That is the only way you can EVER come anywhere near sounding like hemdrix.
Simon McNeely you are RIGHT ON!!! Hendrix was Self Taught, no schooling, unorthodox, doing things that he didn't know that you are not supposed to do. He was a innovator, so sometimes RULES can PREVENT you from being inventive.
Hey man, I love that you shoot the lessons from the guitarist's pov. Makes it so much easier to see what is going on. Nice videos
Not unless your left handed
Great lesson. I've been trying to dissect Hendrix lately as well, and it's all just so unconventional in a way that makes perfect sense. Its playing backwards in many ways.
I really, really dig Hendrix's deal. You got that soundin sweet! Great showing! Thanks!!!
I hope your nameless project that was hinted at???? Is a Red House solo lesson. No one comes close to the detail and quality instruction that comes out the TXBA Woodshed!!
Thanks for the free lesson, good observation. Can't wait for the series...

Great Lesson Anthony! Thanks!
Where did youget the idea for that specific choice of left hand fingering?
What do you mean?
Texas Blues Alley Yeah, maybe it's just me.. It just struck me as a funny fingering to play the d on the b string while bending the a with two fingers instead of using your pinky... To me it just looked like a lot of work and moving around in the left hand so it made me wonder :)

@@Texasbluesalley I think he means that unique camera angle
LOVEEEE - Lil B
that 60fps is sweet!, great lesson btw
Very fancy
Always love your videos, your the best teacher. Easy to understand
Great little lick! 🤙🏼
Thanks for all the great lessons Anthony, It's helped me tremendously...
Excellent, well explained, well taught.
Thank you!!
i love the tone you get, those bends sound so sweet........i went to your web site to check out the gear you used and i didn't see any effects pedal, are you really getting that tone plugging straight into an amp?
I was wondering the same
Excellent

Anyway, cheers, I always get something out of your vids!
Hey, are you getting some of that fuzz from a pedal or is it the amp or volume? How do I get a tone like that out of my strat?
Tube screamer?
Tube Amp pushed maybe?
This is great!!!
I love how you nerd out on this stuff!
Also what kinda weird pick is that?
Awesome, many thanks!
hey man! Awesome video, i have one question!! What pickups are in ur strat?!! They sound niceeee!
Man the new 60fps just seems so, different.
I love it. I've been shooting my stuff at 1080p60 for over a year and always hated how choppy they got on YT.
It looks like everything is in fast motion but also at normal speed both at the same time.
yeah it seems like its sped up. I know its not, but thats the effect it produces.
Alex Padilla One thing that will definitely be better is if you play it in slow motion, the extra 30 fps really makes the slow mo more usable.
Thank you for these informational videos! Where would you place Robin Tower's blues playing?
I love blues cause no matter how bluesy it sounds everyone sounds different and approaches it differently
The solo in Hey Joe has some unusual phrases too....by that I mean they sound familiar but when you listen to it they are played in a way that is fairly novel for most players.
Excellent content, thank you man!
Are your lessons in dvd format? Also could they be downloaded to mobile devices?
What are you using to get that tone at the beginning?
Thanks!
If I signed up for the monthly $19.99 do I get access to every single lesson?
Yes. I've been producing courses since 2008 and have over 150 hours of course material, all focused on blues guitar.
I love your vids, SIr. Can you make a tutorial on John Mayer's play style?
almost sounds like eddie hazel... dat little riff is pretty similar to maggot brain when you play it slow, the back and forth between 12 and 15 and the jump back to the 15 from the g.

Look how hi those strings are dang😯
What gauge of strings do you use here?
Why didn't you play your guitar the entire time you talked about the difference of Vaughn and Hendrix in your other video?? What was the guitar there for?

Is this video in new 60fps mode, that enables HD only in Chrome browser? Cant play it in HD :/
I didn't do anything different, they must have added a feature. Hope they don't use this as a way to crowbar people into using Chrome.
Texas Blues Alley It is fixed now. But couple of days after latest RUclips upgrade* only Chrome could launch HD (720 or 1080) in 60fps.
After a day of life, come home grab the ax and let it out, and you got something, thanks for the tools to do so.
I noticed the 60fps right away! Don't ever go back to 29.
did jimi know pentatonic boxes? who told him
i think i figured it out finger lenth !
1:40 Maggot Brain?
good time fo an old tommoto throu
I see you even play with the rounded edge of the pick.like srv did...
Is it my perception or is your string to neck action crazy high? If so I have a bitch of a time high steppin'
twoprimo It is high, but the camera angle makes it seem higher than it really is.
where do you see syd barrett among great guitarist?
E (not Eb) :-(
Y u afraid to use your pinky?
sounds a lot like Clapton
3:57
Who says Gilmorur is better than Hendrix?! I friggin hate DG style
No one sounds like Hendrixs.
Why waste your time "life" by trying to be somebody you are not?
Why not just play you? To find yourself is the whole thing with music!
By studying someone else you get to see their creativity and talent, which can inspire your own music. You must listen to other peoples music, so it's not a waste, especially as it's Hendrix too.
