    Great lesson. I've been trying to dissect Hendrix lately as well, and it's all just so unconventional in a way that makes perfect sense. Its playing backwards in many ways.

    I hope your nameless project that was hinted at???? Is a Red House solo lesson. No one comes close to the detail and quality instruction that comes out the TXBA Woodshed!!

    Where did youget the idea for that specific choice of left hand fingering?

      What do you mean?

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen 10 лет назад +4

      Texas Blues Alley Yeah, maybe it's just me.. It just struck me as a funny fingering to play the d on the b string while bending the a with two fingers instead of using your pinky... To me it just looked like a lot of work and moving around in the left hand so it made me wonder :)

    • @timfitzgerald1502
      @timfitzgerald1502 10 лет назад

      watch all the greats and you'll observe most use just 3 fingers and it feels more natural and the stretch is easy it's only one fret plus it enables faster licks somehow using only 3 fingers. the pinky is just not needed

      Alex Padilla One thing that will definitely be better is if you play it in slow motion, the extra 30 fps really makes the slow mo more usable.

    The solo in Hey Joe has some unusual phrases too....by that I mean they sound familiar but when you listen to it they are played in a way that is fairly novel for most players.

    Why waste your time "life" by trying to be somebody you are not?
    Why not just play you? To find yourself is the whole thing with music!

    • @willb8099
      @willb8099 9 лет назад +5

      By studying someone else you get to see their creativity and talent, which can inspire your own music. You must listen to other peoples music, so it's not a waste, especially as it's Hendrix too.

    • @pleximanic
      @pleximanic 9 лет назад

      What you should do is to study the fundamentals
      rhythm, harmony and melody, with emphasis on rhythm.
      Today there are barely any original players because they focus on style "of their idols" and totally skip to try to understand the fundamentals resulting in that we now have a bunch of pale clones which is laughable.
      Absorb the big guys but study yourself in parallel with deep studies in rhythm, harmony and melody.
      Play yourself, not a pale imitation of someone else!

    • @willb8099
      @willb8099 9 лет назад +2

      Yer I agree, but don't knock the people that worship the 'greats' just because you don't.
      Heck I started out on pure rock and metal, now I'm actually learning and loving jazz the most!

  • @benddirtjumper123
    @benddirtjumper123 9 лет назад +5

    Hey man, I respect the effort, but I think the problem with your Hendrix Sound is that you are too technical. You learned from the ropes, jimi's style came through his self taught guitar skills, that is why you won't get it. It's unfortunate, but no matter how hard some people try, they won't get a sound like Hendrix. To sound like hendrix, the first step is to not overthink it, just play the guitar, just have the courage to make mistakes while playing and letting them become part of your sound. That is the only way you can EVER come anywhere near sounding like hemdrix.

    • @JS-te4gz
      @JS-te4gz 5 лет назад +2

      Randy Hansen...check him out.......Hendrix all the way

    • @JamesBond-ml3zp
      @JamesBond-ml3zp 5 лет назад +1

      Simon McNeely you are RIGHT ON!!! Hendrix was Self Taught, no schooling, unorthodox, doing things that he didn't know that you are not supposed to do. He was a innovator, so sometimes RULES can PREVENT you from being inventive.
