- #trabant #prototype #gdr The Trabant 1.1E was a prototype that nobody wanted even then. Not even the designer of this prototype, Matthias Kaluza thought it was nice but he was almost forced by a lot of specifications. The two mega symphytic contemporary witnesses tell something about this Trabant 1.1E and why it didn't appear.
The Trabant 1.1 expert Falk Wannhoff (not visible in the video) explained to me why the actual taillights of this prototype are in the trunk.
The car was on display in the August Horch Museum for a long time and some visitors couldn't help but tweak the taillights. They are made of hard foam and painted.
Thomas Müller from @fordervereinaugusthorchmus6963 briefly explains something about the engine compartment. The designer of this Trabant prototype, Matthias Kaluza, explains to us why the car never had a chance and why he never liked it.
"I still don't like it to this day, because you basically close a body that was actually, let's say from the early 1950s, created with the rain gutter and then just add a modernized face and the modernized rear just doesn't fit the car."
