    "I don't remember your mom."
    "You don't wanna."
    Devastating, devastating, devastating. So often abusers are just trying to protect the broken child within themselves. This line destroyed me because it shows the cycles of hurt and pain that cause generational trauma. Hurt in the place of love.
    Thank god for the writers on this show. This is some of the realest depiction of generational trauma I've ever scene. This episode so laden with hope but still so filled with pain. But that's how it really is. Anybody who's been through it knows.

    This was seriously one of the most special scenes I have seen on TV. Obviously, like Sugar, we are anxious that her mom was the one to show up for her. I was waiting for one of the others to come, her husband, anyone. I felt angry towards her, for making it about her, but then, the scene goes on... wow. It felt so real- they finally got to talk things out, and this episode felt like one of those times the universe was placing you with the right person to help you, and they had this special opportunity of mutual connection and understanding. The way her mom is not all "bad"- you can see the love in her and what makes you love her, just like her kids do, at the end of the day. This wasn't the best season, but this episode was the standout (alongside Tina ep). So special, crying to the very end of the ep. They both did beautifully, but Jamie Lee is incredible. It truly felt like they are mother and daughter.

    I cried the whole time when I 1st saw this scene. The roller coaster of emotions a woman feels while giving birth. A mother seeing her own baby giving birth and knowing how much pain she's in and how she's going to go through the contractions 100 more times.

    “It’s not sweet. It’s fucked up”
    Like that’s just a sentence that everyone can say but it being said IN THAT MOMENT meant so much more and dug really deep into what traumatized children go through even when they grow to be adults.
    It IS fucked up. No one should ever have to feel terrible for doing that was supposed to be a good thing before it turned to indirect abuse. No one should ever have to be miserable just so the people they love can be happy. And no one should ever feel like everything they do isn’t enough no matter how long they try. The internalized “If I keep doing this then they’ll be happy” while not being guaranteed that it will finally make them happy is so damaging that not a lot of us can even recognize that giving up so much really isn’t sweet.

    I wonder if those who were not abused as a child felt this scene as strongly as those who were abused felt it. Speaking for myself: The expressions on each face, the ebb and flow of communication between actors Curtis and Elliott so well done. I have rarely seen a movie/TV where the consequence of child abuse is so expertly conveyed. Generational trauma, which is just recently being acknowledged in American society. Not as strongly, as it should be. The wiring of Donna’s brain was
    seriously damaged during her childhood until the brain stops growing at approximately age 25. Ms. Curtis facial expression, sliding from pain to love, seconds of terror rip across her face, a need to run and protect her daughter from a ghost that lives only in her implicit memory. Natalie’s facial expressions, wanting to protect herself and her child from her mother’s terrible pain and behavior, while simultaneously expressing love and empathy towards Donna as she rotates through the chaos of her mind. Critics were being hard on this season? I did dislike the cliffhanger, but a lot was conveyed emotionally in this season and I thank all who were involved.

    By far the best episode of any TV series I have seen and that includes every episode of the highly acclaimed West Wing and the first which receives my personal rating of 10/10 for production, directing, acting and original script. The director in my opinion demonstrated so much confidence with both his stillness and in his actors to deliver with a camera positioned at 90% choke close ups. I was so impressed The quality of the predominantly two character driven narrative was so impressive. Unlike anything produced for a long time I offer. Flawless. One line change perhaps...When Donna replied she is trying when asked how is it going by Natalie. I would have changed the line remarked by Donna instead to: Its a lot of stuff.. Great stuff.

    I just "finished" this episode, I put it in quotes because I couldn't make it past the 15 minute mark I was so bored. I hear about this big emotional revelation between these to two characters, but I couldn't make it to that point because it sucked so bad, not sure I would have even cared if I did make it to be honest.

  • @alexbaum2204
    @alexbaum2204 Месяц назад +2

    It is, in the simplest terms I can think of, an absolute insult to these two insanely talented actors that they have to share a billing and act in scenes with Ayo Edebiri. She drags the entire show down with such dull, predictable, and one-dimensional acting. So much so, I almost give up on it completely every time an episode showcases her or even has her as a supporting character. But I don’t. Because then you stay with the show and you get this. A full blown masterclass on what I think is just about the highest level of acting.
