OUR LAST MINUTE Travel Day ACROSS COSTA RICA | San Jose to La Fortuna

- Join us on our travel day across Costa Rica, which as always, nothing was planned and everything figured out last minute!
After staying 6 days in a hostel in the capital city of San Jose, Costa Rica, we booked an Airbnb and made plans to travel cross country to the town of La Fortuna, at the base of the world-renowned Arenal Volcano!
We are super excited to get to La Fortuna and share all our adventures with you! But before we get into any of that, we have to find our way there! With no clear bus schedule and way too much luggage, we fumble our way through downtown San Jose and different bus terminals. With only broken Spanglish to guide our way, we manage to find ourselves on quite the bus ride travel day.

He said it takes 2 hours and a half to get there, not that you needed to wait two hours.
He also said you needed to stop in ciudad quesada and then change to another bus to fortuna.
Ciudad quesada is the main city of the county (canton) of San Carlos.
All the information they gave you was right
Yeah thanks, we realized that now too after the fact. Still learning Spanish as we go and our broken Spanglish did not hold up in that moment haha
Hello! Thanks for the great and super helpful video. Two quick questions: did you always pay on the bus for the ticket or at a ticket counter before? And, how did you know where the busses are departing (especially at Ciudad Quesada)? Thank you!
Thank you! 🙂🙌At each place, we’d pay cash to the driver or bus assistant, who would ride and charge during the ride. Every stop had someone helping point out, just ask the station attendants and they will point you in the right way
hahah he said the ride duration is 2.5 hours not the wait for the bus is 2.5 hours

Do you rememeber what time the direct bus was that you missed?
Sorry Eliah, we do not remember no, but it is earlier in the day for sure! Our best suggestion would be to go to Terminal 7-10 in downtown San Jose the day before if possible and get it sorted. We don't speak enough Spanish to give them a call, and couldn't find very clear information online. So a bit of a time consumer to go down there physically to get that figured out, but that's our best suggestion, hope that helps!
Hello I’m going to la fortuna from San Jose what process did you go through to get the bus? Is it at the airport or did you travel to a bus station?
We just went to the bus station located in downtown San Jose! 🙂
