Guys, if your knees hurt the back of your arms as they rest behind them it is because you are putting all of the weight of your legs on your arms. You have to control your legs. Your arms are not supposed to hold all of the weight of your legs. You have to have control of your whole body. Your core has to help you hold the pose, not just your arms. It is not like your arms have to carry/support all of the weight of your body. Try to put your knees a little bit to the outer side of your arms, as if eventually you were going to elevate your legs. Also, you really need to have control of your indexes and of your thumbs because these fingers are the ones that will help you find that "happy" balance, and control.
+Bára Křepínská good job! I'm currently also working on my yoga practice, but this is a little bit too advanced for me right now haha Hope I'll be where you're at in a few months! Namaste
Bring awareness to your center- light up that core so that we are not dependent on just the knees on the arms but creating a suspension almost in the core. Its okay to bend your elbows to find that stability and that shelf for the arms- in time we can work to lengthen through the arms without sliding. Its TRICKy for sure! (Really refraining from a good Trick or Treat pun right now) :)
I really love the beginning part, turning the crow upside to focus on how it should feel! Really helped me connect the dots on how to engage my core and progress my crow!!!
Dear Adriene there's no special tip how to keep the pose😢 cause i just can have my both legs up for the smallest amount of time that exists😁😢💟💟💟🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
YES!!! After 2 years (I think), and many falls-forward and sideways (ouch!!)- I can finally hold Bakasana for a fair amount of breaths!! I haven't mastered it yet, but the progress is amazing! I didn't even practise crow consistently, so you can do it sooner than me.. The trick I 've found has helped me is to activate the core and not just throw your weight on your arms. In fact, I try not to put weight on my arms, but instead once I 've positioned my (active) legs on my armpits, I start pulling everything up, my core, bum and legs. Also, be concetrated and breath slowly and deeply, don't rush just to do it and the forward looking thing also helps a lot! Practice is key!! Next goal headstand 😬
Lilian : I struggled MIGHTILY on this one and just Could. Not. Get my feet up. But after reading your comment, I went back and did some conscious tweaking in how I approached it, and I managed to actually get some lift! It was only for maaaaybe half a second, but I was so darned proud of myself. 😂 So thank you very, very much for that advice. I think I'll come back to this pose video every few days until I can nail it for at least a solid two breaths.
I've practiced yoga for a couple of years already, yet crow pose still slips me. I always thought it's because my arms are not strong enough yet (also I'm afraid of toppling over) , but your comment gave me hope. 💕
After completing the 30 days of yoga I decided I'm ready to try and master the cow pose. It's fair to say that today I came nowhere near mastering it, however as I'm starting the 30 days for the second time, I'm setting myself the goal to practice crow every day before going into shavasana. Wish me luck, i hope to stop faceplanting soon! And Adriane, you truly helped me transform into a little less of a couch potato - for that you have endless gratitude. Much love!
YES! I finally got crow pose! After a few practices after watching this video and incorporating crow pose into 30 Days of Yoga, I am able to hold crow pose for a breath or two. That may not seem like much, but I couldn't even get myself to hold the pose at all before. I'm finding what feels good; thanks Adriene! P.S. I think it really clicked for me when I realized what you said: Make sure to maintain your focus forward. I thought I was doing so before, but I was continuously looking at my toes as I mounted my legs to my arms. The moment I kept my gaze forward I was able to hold the pose :)
Isnt that interesting how that works? Why is it that a gaze helps us.... Is it like, its easier to walk a straight line if u LOOK at the line instead of the sky??? Idk
Currently doing 2022s 30 day of yoga practice and tomorrow is flight...I know crow pose is going to be part of the video and I so badly want to nail it tomorrow. This was a fun practice session and a reminder. Adriene says in this video that we don't do yoga, we practice yoga. Tomorrow is a practice...it isn't about nailing it. Needed that reminder! Thank you Adriene.
EASE 🍁 | October 8, 2023 | Part 1 - Back to the foundations of crow! I might not love it, but I need it 😉 Off to do part 2 to really deepen the foundations! 🙏
👋 I think you're on the nose about how quickly this particular practice unfolds.. for me it was exponentially fast! I would usually skip the option for Bakasana, telling myself I'd learn it when I'm ready. But truth is I would never be ready; so I made today the day I was ready... and I went from being doubtful of my strength, and being afraid of injuring myself on the pose, to being able to do it a decent version of it! Granted all of the contextual yoga practice definitely made learning this practice faster for me, there's still a lot to work on. However, that jump of confidence from being afraid of not being able to do something, to "wow I can actually do it decently!" is so many dimensions of growth for me. I wished rapid growth and deep learning for everyone. Thanks Adriene, Namaste 🙏
Did this yesterday following all the steps, tried to practice again today after my flow:lifted my legs a few times and fell back, lifted them again and held for one breath, went back, held for two breaths and got so happy I lost my balance and fell on my face, lmao. It was funny though, I felt like a child again:it's been so many years since I had such a disastrous crash on the floor.Humbling to say the least. Thanks for the amazing video, will definitely watch over and over as I continue to build strength and concentration.
Ideally we are working towards a place where we are not putting a lot of weight on the arms. Just like in headstand we don't want to put a lot of dead weight onto the head. Build that fire in your core- and wake up the entire line from the crown of the head to the tail! Work on this with the hurdles! Practice this and see if we can relieve the arms a bit in time. Let me know how it goes!
Squats and crow have been my least favorite practice since gaining over 90 pounds (have lost 30 pounds since May) But I did commit to following the calendar as it is and I did give it my best effort. I found that although I didn’t make it up to crow, I am able to hold the squats for longer and managed to squat and try for the crow for most of the video. It is important to face the things that are difficult and thank you Adriene for making these challenges fun :)
ADRIENE!!! Been doing yoga with you for about a month now, and I was finally able to do this pose!!! Just wanted to thank you for being my teacher and friend in this journey :')
I have been trying to get this pose for MONTHS - I finally nailed it with this tutorial! Thank you for simplifying it and taking the fear out of the picture! :)
When I was "practicing" by myself, I guess my main mistake was not lifting tailbone enough and just going straight to lifting the legs. But today while I was listening to your instructions, I felt my toes were leaving the ground by themselves, in the most natural way; it was an amazing experience! ...Still, could hold the pose only for about 1-2 seconds :'D Better than nothing though~
Adriene! I did Yoga Camp and am currently working on the crow pose every day now that I'm following your 30 days of yoga.. When I first attempted, even with the block, this pose was just not happening, and slowly but surely I've been able to hold it for a couple of seconds, to a couple breaths, and for the first time yesterday I think something clicked and I was able to hold the pose (and breath) for about 20 seconds! Now I just need to strengthen my core, because I'm still putting too much weight onto my arms and they get tired and I lose my balance. Your words get me through when at first something seems to hard to accomplish on my own! Thank you :) lots of love.
What a feeling, I did it!!! I have been doing my daily yoga for almost a year now and today I managed to stay in crow for the first time. The book does help. I feel like a winner now.
Whew.. I’ve been trying for a year to fly in this posture. It’s funny, because there’s always that sweet spot with the knees on my triceps where it feels like ‘ah ha!’ Here I go. I get one toe up, and the struggle with the next.. for 2/10’s of a second I’m up, then poof 😂🙏🏼
Ease day 8! Didn’t do it but it was fun and I’m proud of myself for trying and being determined to keep practicing) Thank you, Adriene and YWA community💜💜💜
Thank you, Adriene, for the video; it really helped me and I can maintain the crow pose for seven seconds now! -I don't really know if that is any good though!- and might I suggest you do a yoga for repent and guilt? That would help a lot. Thank you!
Yoga With Adriene I finished the 30-day challenge on Friday (and ordered a FWFG shirt as my reward to myself). I am now working on crow. I couldn't do this one at all. So this is my yoga for the week...watching and doing this pose over and over again until I get it.
Day 25 of the challenge, it's my birthday AND for the first time ever in my 3-year-yoga career I've managed to do crow pose! YAY! Thanks, Adriene! Finding your channel was one of THE highlights of this past year! :)
This routine is simply AWESOME!!! I just started practising this routine a week ago and now I can hold the pose for 5 seconds, in JUST ONE WEEK! Thank you so much for making yoga so easy for me, Adriene. You're the best! 😩❤
Thanks so much, this pose isn't just used in yoga, but calisthenics aswell, and this video instantly improved my crow, for which I can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work💪
It’s mid-January 2024 and after doing todays 30-day Flow with Adriene, decided to keep working on crow, a position I’ve had no luck with in 6 months of trying. Was shocked to find this 10y old video by my fav yoga gal, and leave it to Adriene to help me get into the pose successfully for the very first time! So happy I could cry 👏❤
I did it! i've been practicing yoga for 2 years now and no matter who tries to teach me I have never done it. until now! Thank you Adriene, you personality and style has made yoga so fun for me x
We did this one for homeschool just now... fun! And my kids, especially my 5 year old, appreciated your wigs, and particularly on Benji at the end. Because of course all of my kids know Benji. So thanks for doing that, lol!
I held it for a split second! So excited! This is my current goal as my first arm balance 💛 I knew this guy once who was just slid right into this pose like he was meant to be there. It was so awesome! He was also a rock climber though and I am made of pudding lol I’ll get there!
I have heard many people praise Adriene for the way she teaches Yoga but I had never seen a single video from her until now. This is the second video I have seen from you and i have learned so much in two episodes than in the 10 or 20 videos I have seen from other creators. The way you taught these poses it's so great I learned the basics in mere minutes. I can't do an entire crow pose but being in the initial position is already fulfilling. I feel great. Thank you Adriene. You got yourself a subscriber.
I've done this video about six or seven times the past two weeks and can manage to stay up for a few seconds now! It's better on my perch than it is without, but I never expected to be able to have that much progress so soon! And I'm on day 25 of 30 days of yoga, so that's obviously helping. Thanks for the video and the motivation! Anybody else out there who thinks they can't do it, you totally can with practice and positivity!
Thanks Adrienne!! I love your videos. I've been doing 30 days of yoga. I'm a beginner. I really wanted to practice crow pose and I got it then fell over but it was an amazing feeling. You kept me from getting discouraged. I will continue to build my strength and gain more balance and eventually not fall over. I feel proud of myself. Thank you again! Namaste.
I think doing the kapalabhati practice before this one helped so much because this was my best crow yet! I felt focused and I was able to hold crow several times for a solid 5 seconds each. These foundations videos are so good. Another one to add to my “yoga faves” playlist. Thank you, Adriene, as always. ❤
This was an awesome video. I’m still struggling with crow of course but at least now I get where I’m headed. But dang, the backs of arms I swear are bruised 😅
Well I didn’t manage to get this pose on first try but it did pop the cyst in my wrist. When I lifted my feet I heard something like a crack, fell down, looked at my wrist and the big lump that’s been there for two years had disappeared! For that I am eternally grateful to you!
I'm from India so we have respect books more than anything! I was like ,"Nooo don't do that !" the moment she climbed on the book.😂 P.s. btw love your tutorials . 😊
I've been trying crow on and off for about 12 months and this is the first time it clicked for me - I think showing the pose on your back first is brilliant and really helped me understand where I had been going wrong. Absolutely buzzing (despite a few falls...)
I used to be able to hold this pose fairly well when I was a little kid… after the past year, I’ve lost all my stamina and am building it back up. Always good for me to be reminded that progress is not a linear path.
Thank you so much for this - I've been practicing yoga for years and FINALLY got it! Learning on the back with the core engaged and foot placement really helped. I'm ecstatic!
ive always wanted to do this and this is my first time trying it and i did it!!!! well i held it for a second and then fell but hey practice makes perfect
New respect for those who can do this pose... my hands and arms are feeling weak after that and I couldn't hold both feet up. Here for the Halloween week of yoga and enjoying how it's pushing me to work on a pose that intimidates me.
Crow pose was always super scary for me as a teen practicing yoga. I always fell and couldn’t even lift one foot. I picked up my practice again recently to get healthier (a decade later and 40 pounds heavier). When I first saw crow again, I didn’t think I could do it, but Adrienne is pretty convincing when it comes to trying things and believing in your own abilities. After practicing for a two months, I’ve built strength and confidence, can can finally lift into crow for just a second or two. It’s not much, but I think I can get it with more practice.
Im doing one of those 30 day challenges with adriene. Im in day 23 and omg... we're talking about me... a super unflexible person with zero core strength and zero experience in yoga. Well ima tell you i lifted both of my legs up in crow pose. Can't hold it more than half a sec but omg ... 23 days of yoga and i can do this??? Maybe its an easy pose.. maybe the hard part is holding the pose and not just getting your toes of the ground. Idk but im shook
I’ve tried this pose never knowing there was a name for it and only held it for 2 seconds. But I tried it again today and held the crow pose for 5 seconds (: Making progress!!!
I just watched this video and I'm still so new at this whole yoga thing. It's going to take me years before I get good at the terminology for yoga! I love learning something new! I've been a crazy Zumba instructor for off and on 4 years but I'm loving this yoga stuff! I feel so strong! I really hope that I can personally thank you one day for how much good you've done for me!
WOW so today was my first attempt WOW... my arms and body just said and WHAT do you think you are doing?! This was INSANE like oh wowers but I can not wait to actually be able to do this WOW... For now my goal is to not use a book :) and keep my balance better little by little :) Thanks so much for this!
i just did it! so far when i practiced my toes never went high enough, my knees weren't postured correctly and i actually just held it for a good 5 seconds which is good enough for now hehe. thank you!
I've only over, inconsistently, been to a few Yoga classes. The last time I went the teacher did this pose and I laughed (without even attempting it) thinking I would never be able to do it. After over a month of no gym/classes and/or exercising - today I attempted it and couldn't hold it but I managed to push onto my hands, imagine how far I'd be if I attempted it & never became lazy for a month! Anyway - my goal is to be able to do this and hold it for a few seconds :) I love your videos, thanks for making Yoga accessible to everyone
I really hesitated when I saw Crow Pose today, but I went ahead anyway. Surprisingly, I loved this one. Great core workout, and when it came to crow, I actually got my toes up for about 2 seconds. That's a first for this 60 year old. Feeling strong now, as I start my day.
I've tried this pose loads of times, but never done it properly. Thanks to you, Adriene, I've just done my first arm balance! I've held my crow for 10secs. Couldn't be happier! Thank you veeeery much and please, keep making so amazing videos and being such an inspiring person :)
OMG! FINALLYYYY!! I've been practising this pose for two weeks or something and I couldn't lift up for more than half a second :"D Crow pose was my goal and I finally did it yaaay!!!
I have long admired and wanted to do Bakasana Crow pose. I am happy to say that at about 6 weeks into my resuming a regular practice, that I am able to now hover in the pose for a few seconds! Yay! Not too bad for a 50 yr. old!
Hi Adriene, =) I so like watching your videos in practicing the postures because you always emphasizes not to rush in doing any of it. Your common words like, "foundations, stability, integrity" are just some that are awesome to hear as these words are big words usually, especially in the corporate world, but the way you use them in the yoga practice they become cool, fluffy and candid.☺ Your all-time reminders as taking time and go through with the process are not just helpful reminders in practicing yoga postures but also teaching the viewers that in life it's the same thing. Going through the right process will really give justice.☺ Your videos are simply wonderful!
I've always had scrawny arms and little arm strength. And I never believed I would be able to do strength poses like this. After practicing this for the first time and for only a few times tonight, I finally #hitthatBakasana. Thank you for this tutorial and for believing in me through a video!
After two years of practicing I finally lifted both toes and didn't fall!! A win for the day!
How did you practice?
Any progression now?
I swear Adrienne is the Bob Ross yoga... Happy little poses.
hahahaha
I cant seem to get my knees to balance into my armpits. I could only hold it for a second. Help
Definitely!
Miss two and half men
she totally is !
held it for a good half a sec, felt zen like until i smashed my head on the floor.
Practice makes progress!
Matt Kawa lol sameee
I think we've all fallen out of this one
Me too!
Haha oh dear Matt, the dangers of yoga ;)
I finally found a use for my high school chemistry textbook...a yoga block.
milkyway2galaxy YES HAHAHAHA ME TOO
As a chemistry teacher this hurts
@@Nikki199cr ur awesome ! I love chemistry 😀
I read chemistry textbooks for fun in my free time.
The Complete Pelican Shakespeare over here
I actually held the crow for 3 seconds! I'm so proud of myself! Crow is my current yoga goal right now. Can't wait to master it 🐦
+Bára Křepínská good job! I'm currently also working on my yoga practice, but this is a little bit too advanced for me right now haha Hope I'll be where you're at in a few months! Namaste
I started in September with only few months of pilates before. You'll get there soon! Much happy thoughts&relieving yoga xx
Same here. Like, literally, "what's your 2019. goal?" - holding crow pose for at least 3 sec :D
Yesterday I just did it for a few seconds I was so so sooo happy!
Can you do crow pose rn?

Definitely helps to feel the reaching both through the head and the tail
Thank You!! ❤❤❤
You will not lift those legs right away- give her some time and keep the neck long! It will happen! Let me know how it develops! xooxxx

Lilian ok, this gives me hope! I have not been practicing that long but getting really hard on myself for not being able to do it yet!!!
Mindy Joy : Never be hard on yourself for not being able to do a pose-Adriene isn't! (Her non-judgement is a major factor in her being my go-to. 😁)
Lilian : I struggled MIGHTILY on this one and just Could. Not. Get my feet up. Guys I did it!!! I've watched this video soooo many times!! I've tried for soooo long!! Not today crow pose!! I've got ya now!!!! 🙏
i held the posture for like 0.0000001 seconds, but this was the first time I understood how to hold it! Thank you so much :))

Ask and you shall receive!! :-) Our first arm balance! Let me know how it goes!
100% just fell flat on my face
+Jenna Champion I've done that before!!! Now I'm too nervous to get my legs up but I think the look ahead advice is helpful... one day!
Don’t feel badly! I did, too, the first time I tried it lol! I had a good little lump on my upper eye and forehead for a day.
YES! I finally got crow pose! After a few practices after watching this video and incorporating crow pose into 30 Days of Yoga, I am able to hold crow pose for a breath or two. 10/21/22 I finally did crow pose for a few seconds! I’ve been trying for months now and this video finally got it to click for me!
Yes, drawing those knees up towards the armpit chest area light that fire in the core too!
Always remember to have fun :) Thanks!

Thanks to India for giving the wonderful yoga and Pranayama to the world. It has been an integral part of Indian hindu culture for thousands of years.

Not only is this great for this and this part of your body, but it also gives you lovely, perm hair.
Yoga With Adriene I finished the 30-day challenge on Friday (and ordered a FWFG shirt as my reward to myself). I am now working on crow. I couldn't do this one at all. So this is my yoga for the week...watching and doing this pose over and over again until I get it.
Muito bom
Love this so much - embracing the bravery and silliness! Remembering that mistakes are beautiful too x
wHAT NO WAY i can hold it for like three seconds now omg!!!! this was so helpful! don't give up, everyone
Day 25 of the challenge, it's my birthday AND for the first time ever in my 3-year-yoga career I've managed to do crow pose!
YAY! Thanks, Adriene! Finding your channel was one of THE highlights of this past year! :)
Jennifer Petkovic i did it for a second on my 7th day of yoga is it good😹
It took you 3 years to crow pose???
Coronavirus Quarantine and everyday practice with Adrienne gave me my first BAKASANA!!!!
I did it! i've been practicing yoga for 2 years now and no matter who tries to teach me I have never done it. until now! Thank you Adriene, you personality and style has made yoga so fun for me x
Omg, that is hilarious!!! protests= arm pit chest area I think. Hahhaa!

You are the most yogi i can peacefully link with Adrienne! i am learning crow faster that i thought! Namaste!
I loved Carnivale! I remember watching all of it all at once! Haha! Love to you!
omg, i did it! for only a second but got both feet off the ground. thx adriene for your constant and continual support. 💜
Watching this just in time for halloween
Thanks Adrienne!! I love your videos. I've been doing 30 days of yoga. I'm a beginner. I really wanted to practice crow pose and I got it then fell over but it was an amazing feeling. You kept me from getting discouraged. I will continue to build my strength and gain more balance and eventually not fall over. I feel proud of myself. Thank you again! Namaste.
I FINALLY HELD IT!
(Yelling "f**k yeah!" and falling wasn't exactly zen of me but nonetheless here we are)
I think doing the kapalabhati practice before this one helped so much because this was my best crow yet!
Single best crow tutorial I have ever seen, including the comment to make sure we aren't thinking toxic thoughts! Thank you!
This Yoga teacher is something different... curious and cute ways of expressions add to the charm ...
Well I didn’t manage to get this pose on first try but it did pop the cyst in my wrist. When I lifted my feet I heard something like a crack, fell down, looked at my wrist and the big lump that’s been there for two years had disappeared! For that I am eternally grateful to you!
Hi Adrienne - you have such a warm way of welcoming us into these poses - I feel invited to grow and learn - thank you!
It worked. I never expected I would be able to do it. Held it for 5-7 seconds.
I'm from India so we have respect books more than anything! I was like ,"Nooo don't do that !" the moment she climbed on the book.😂
P.s. btw love your tutorials . 😊
I wrapped my book in a towel before using it in order to protect it, so I understand this sentiment hehe :)
same ..i was about to grab the book then suddenly she puts her feet on it and i was like no thats not gonna happen .
Lol!
oh my gosh, my dad is indian so I can relate !! I was like uhhh darling please don't step on the book
I thought the same thing!
I've been trying crow on and off for about 12 months and this is the first time it clicked for me - I think showing the pose on your back first is brilliant and really helped me understand where I had been going wrong. Absolutely buzzing (despite a few falls...)
Thanks Adriene , love a bit of Bakasana ! 🤙🙏
I'm 9 years old and by looking at your channel I did some practice for 5 min. and now I can do the splits! and it was my first time doing it!!!
This is one of the hardest poses for me. but I want to practice three times a week and rock it finally.😁
I am trying this. I have always wanted to do the crow pose
I worked on this for a month and just held it for about 3 seconds, I am so excited! Thank you for this video! You are the best!
ive always wanted to do this and this is my first time trying it and i did it!!!! well i held it for a second and then fell but hey practice makes perfect
New respect for those who can do this pose... my hands and arms are feeling weak after that and I couldn't hold both feet up. Here for the Halloween week of yoga and enjoying how it's pushing me to work on a pose that intimidates me.
Thankyou, Adriene. I managed to fly for 0.2 seconds haha xxx
Thank you!! Your best tips were to look forward and breathe, and I got up for four breaths! Stoked!
I’ve tried this pose never knowing there was a name for it and only held it for 2 seconds. But I tried it again today and held the crow pose for 5 seconds (:
Making progress!!!
I've been practicing yoga for two weeks with Adrienne, and I was able to hold this pose after 7 or 8 trys! Excellent teaching skills!
i just did it! so far when i practiced my toes never went high enough, my knees weren't postured correctly and i actually just held it for a good 5 seconds which is good enough for now hehe.
Anyway - my goal is to be able to do this and hold it for a few seconds :)
I love your videos, thanks for making Yoga accessible to everyone
First time seeing this one! Thank you for the advice on Crow, Adriene. Still day 27 part 1. 388 days in a row.
Great video. I loved it. The turning point for me is when I realized it's about pulling your knees up and not resting on your arms.
Who else is coming back to this video after the day in the Move challenge was like OK YUP CROW POSE TIME
I really hesitated when I saw Crow Pose today, but I went ahead anyway. Surprisingly, I loved this one. Great core workout, and when it came to crow, I actually got my toes up for about 2 seconds. That's a first for this 60 year old. Feeling strong now, as I start my day.
you are a great teacher!
Thank you dear!
100% agree love Adriane 💓
It feels so amazing to "fly" in crow, after a lot of practice of course!!
Went better off the perch but from the ground, today was definitely an off day. My arms are not supporting much.
I've been practising this pose for two weeks or something and I couldn't lift up for more than half a second :"D
Crow pose was my goal and I finally did it yaaay!!!

I have long admired and wanted to do Bakasana Crow pose. I am happy to say that at about 6 weeks into my resuming a regular practice, that I am able to now hover in the pose for a few seconds! Yay! Not too bad for a 50 yr. old!
I was able to do it after falling down on my face couple of times. It’s such a good workout!!! Thank you Adriane!
always take off your glasses, watch video first, then attempt😱
Thanks Adriene! You have just helped me reach and hold bakasana (even if only for a couple of breaths) for the first time in ten years! You rock!
