- Here is the video I promised in my last video. Chris used this and we found a homesite where he found silver and I found a 1.26oz silver monogrammed compact case. The site had never been hit and relics were just laying on top of the ground in a plowed field. It is a VERY useful tool.
Oh my god! I did this and found my first Morgan Dollar! Awesome! Thanks!
Its actually much easier than that . Google earth will let you imprt maps and it will automatically size and set the map into the current location . I have 3 counties around my house of maps from 1913 . then you just select between the old map and current satellite image .
6 years later still helpful! im abt to go metal detecting for the first time with my friend
Great tip. I found several old home sites around my grandparents house that nobody had any idea they were ever there. Planning on going detecting once the snow goes away lol
This is the best tip/info on you tube for metal detecting bar none. I just picked up this app... and found some pre1945 maps from university of Texas in Austin.... works perfectly when layering over google satellite. thank you for the tip!
Thanks for the tip, that was very cool of you guys.
Man it Works!! Without that I never woulda found that 1.26oz silver compact and all the other goodies.
Makes total sense! Better than doing it the old way. Thanks for the tutorial. :)
We wish you the best of luck! That was the purpose of this video,....to help others find goodies!
Thanks for responding back I appreciate that. Continued success & keep up the great job on the release of your videos. Hopefully I will see my daughter do another chicken dance as we celebrate after she found a 1961 silver dime classic.
Great information. Thanks for this awesome video. I just found it. I need a IPad !
That is some great information, thanks for sharing. I will have to see if it will work on my android tablet. Great video as usual. HH
Great bud,...post a comment and let us know if it works on androids! Thanks.
I've been doing this with google maps. Once I locate the structure I get the coordinates and stick them in my phone then go there on foot. I have a vid about it on my channel for any that care. Very good vid.
Yes I think I've watched your vid! Those like that inspired us to make this one. You have a good one. I encourage others to go check it out.
Thanks. It's starting to warm up here in PA but the ground is still frozen. Looking forward to getting out there. Good luck and HH,
Hey found your vids a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving them! I go to SC once a year and went hunting around Sullivans island! Keep the vids rolling! You've got a fan in Oklahoma.
Thanks so much bud! The heat index was 107 here yesterday. Too hot to dig,....Gotta love SC lol.
An excellent video. Great explanation
I'm going to check out that app...looks like a great idea. I have some fields near me that id like to explore. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Super cool! I'm going to try this.
Thanks so much. Hope I can find some old maps of my area.
Your welcome Drew =) Best of luck!
Great and helpful video.
Great app and demo I love the iPad I've had 4
Yes they are a great tool. Apple knows what they are doing. Wish I was a big dog with Apple. High in the ivory tower. I'd fly all over detecting.
Thanks for sharing the info guys. GL & HH
Your welcome Jeffrey =)

thank you for sharing..
sweet tip!!!! thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! =)
Thanks so much guys.
One thing you might not know but might want to mention is that this only works with newer generation iPads with 6.0 or higher operating systems. It won't work with first generation iPads.
Dude thanks! Well noted,...I did not know this. Thanks for sharing.
I didn't either until I tried to load it onto my first generation iPad and it told me that. LOL Guess I need to get me a new iPad. Either that or a Garrett AT. LOL
awesome video!
Awesome gonna get my wife to download the app
I learn something everyday
Thank you!
Now that's cool !
Yes it is Darla,...it works great. Simple and easy to use. Good Luck!
I like this video if you could add to it by touching on how to save it or email it to yourself so that you always have it on your phone instead of having to bring it up over and over again would save a lot of time
Thank you
Good Luck TX!
THANK YOU!
Thanks Swingin'! I hope you use it and it works for you, Good Luck!
Cool! Thanks for sharing that. Now, if I can just learn to use my iPad better...
I know what you mean,...but once you play with it, it's easy. Good Luck!
Hey, I just retired and have been wanting to get started in detecting. How do you go about getting permission to hunt in the places you find on the map.
You just have to ask bud! Practice in your yard. Make clean cuts and nice plugs. Last thing you want is to get permission then tear up someones yard. Ask people you know,...from work,..from church,...from anywhere. We like 1940's or older homes. Look up my video "Metal Detecting 101" and it gives helpful tips.
Following is the website I use and it does the exact same thing that you are doing in about an 1/8 the time. The website is www.historicmapworks.com. It superimposes old historic maps on the current google maps with a simple search. On the home screen you enter the county or city that you are looking for the map. The search results will tell you the year of the map. Then select one of the maps. Once the map is brought up go to the bottom of the screen where it says overlay this map and click on historic earth basic (free version). It then overlays the map onto a current google map. On this screen to the right you can move the opacity slider back and forth and zoom the map in and out or choose hybrid, satellite. Hope this helps all of your viewers.
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Historicmapworks is a great resource but the overlays are horrible. If you want to overlay an old plat map you need to do it yourself to be sure that it is accurate. I have studied some of the maps that historicmapworks "overlayed, and there were some with main roads that were off by half a mile.... NO BUENO! you are better off doing it yourself...
His technique is great but the Super Impose map cost 99 cents. There is another superimposing app called Map OverPro it is free and has a 5 star rating.
Can I get this app for my pc? That's awesome!
I dunno bud,...I'm gonna look myself. I have an iPad but if I can do it on my desktop I'd rather so that.
Yeah me too! Great info.
Oh and I am in the upstate.
Try Maprika
way cool :)
Thanks Michael ;)
Great video but Lord Jesus if you own a Android tablet do not install superimpose app from the app store look at the reviews it doesn't work at all it will send you to advertisement hell. I'm sure some of your viewers are in the same boat if any one that has a Android & knows of another superimposed app please make a comment. Really enjoy your videos great time with your dad. I have a 9 year old daughter that loves going out with me metal detecting special times & memories that you will always remember. More importantly memories for them of being a great dad & for you a great son.
Thanks for the great feedback David. Detecting isn't about what you find......With us it's all about the adventure, where we go, and the good times you have. I've met people that would stab you in the back to gain access to a site,...I get away from those type of people. When you can have great family time and save relics from the past its a win win. Since you detect with your daughter you know what I'm talking about. She will remember that forever. =) Thanks for watching.
found app called morph for android and it works good too.
