My favorite Joni Mitchell song. So many brilliant images in the lyric, such piercingly beautiful music, nothing compares to it. She is the godlike artist and the trembling human all in the same moment.
joni mitchell was a contemporary of bob dylan, who is praised for his great lyrics and social commentary...joni blows him away musically and matches or in my opinion surpasses him lyrically..if she were a man she would have surpassed dylan in popular CONTEMPORARY acclaim...lots of gender bias back then
Joni was, is and will be the best musician, songwriter, poet and 100% artist woman of all times. Still remeber after 40 years how I learned some guitar tricks from her (open tuning) in a time when a song wiht more than 4 chords was considered "difficult" by any guitar player. And how about her piano...She's always been 20 years ahead from her time and still is.. I'm so grateful to Joni for letting the world enjoy her deep, overhuman soul, such a sensitive person, a wisdom in music. She's simply the best: just LOVE her forever
I love her face and smile at this point. I think this might be her at her best. This is her in her mid-50's, and if you've listened to her interviews, you know she's spent a great deal of time battling illness. I get the impression this was a healthy time for her; she seems happy and content, not like she's longing for something.
Went to this concert in my town, my 2nd of hers. By this time she was to me one of the Immortals so I was beyond thrilled just to be there. I was ready to forgive whatever time had taken away, as happens so often with artists whose heyday has passed. No need. Whatever had been lost was more than compensated for by something.... deep. Something remarkable. It represented to me a bullseye hit at a target she had never aimed at before. She was in some ways setting her sights higher, and she was succeeding, again.
awesome, Joni's a totally original in every way as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, as a woman. Just the way she moves, Joni's entitled to forget. One of my all time heroine's. Joni's a genius. True to herself, so deep and real, no one can touch her. A Goddess in every way.
Wow! This is why there is only one Joni Mitchell! The music in the lyrics, the phrasing of Joni's delivery, the sumptuous texture of the instrumentation and Joni's incredible subtlety of tone and her lightness of touch, for me, make this an absolute masterpiece. This is a song that, in the nicest way, forces you to stop whatever you are doing, and just sit down and listen as the singer speaks to you. Simply phenomenal, trailblazing artistry. Thank you Joni! was so honored to meet and hang out with Joni when we performed with The Peace Train at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 1995. What a legend and amazing performer, poet, artist. She is humbling. My childhood idol. And still today.
Genius poetry and musicianship. Dylan is not even near this level. Never was.
On THAT day, Shakespeare, Mozart and Picasso will shout out ‘Joni, you’re sitting at this table’

All I can say is Joni saved me. I had some bad years and her poetry carried me through. 40 years later and this song has the same effect on me.
That guitar, beautiful tone, and listen to those gorgeous chords. A fine and often under-appreciated guitarist.
"It seems we all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction"...who else can write like that...???
She is poetry.
Her guitar sound is outstanding here.
Seven minutes of joy.
Love how Joni has reinvented her already perfect music.

Amazing, beautiful and ever lasting. One of the greatest singer/songwriters of my generation.
