Body cameras like other technology are susceptible to inherent failure at times. I would say if a cop knowingly deactivates their body worn camera in furtherance of criminal behavior it should be an offense.

When she went to address the pot of water one of the cops ran away, she did not threaten him, yet he was afraid and ran away. The other cop immediately put his hand on his gun, again she had not threatened anyone. She was simply addressing the pot of water the cop was afraid was going to start a fire. So we have two scared cops one of which has taken a threatening posture. All of this started with the irrational fear the cops had.

Many years ago, serving as a police officer, I responded to a call where a young black woman was having a nervous breakdown. Upon arrival to the residence, she charged at me with a kitchen knife. I used what learned in training, and wrestled the knife from her hands, cuffed her and she was taken to our PD detention cell. She suffered a couple of bruises on her elbows and knees, but I didn't even think about pulling out my baton, pepper spray, taser or sidearm. That night I thanked the lord for giving me the wisdom and strength to do the right thing that night. So, I saw this video in horror and a pain I can't explain.

When she went to address the pot of water one of the cops ran away, she did not threaten him, yet he was afraid and ran away. The other cop immediately put his hand on his gun, again she had not threatened anyone. She was simply addressing the pot of water the cop was afraid was going to start a fire. So we have two scared cops one of which has taken a threatening posture. All of this started with the irrational fear the cops had.

Many years ago, serving as a police officer, I responded to a call where a young black woman was having a nervous breakdown. Upon arrival to the residence, she charged at me with a kitchen knife. I used what learned in training, and wrestled the knife from her hands, cuffed her and she was taken to our PD detention cell. She suffered a couple of bruises on her elbows and knees, but I didn't even think about pulling out my baton, pepper spray, taser or sidearm. That night I thanked the lord for giving me the wisdom and strength to do the right thing that night. So, I saw this video in horror and a pain I can't explain.
@pallidustigris yes! She's a woman ... the officers ... 2 ... were men. They could easily overpower her. First, they should have tried proper techniques. The man was overly aggressive. Anyone with some sense could see she has mental health issues. They should have also just said stay put ill turn it off (the stove) ... if that was an actual concern. Or... stepped back and continued stepping back until she came out of the kitchen. If she refused to come out the kitchen without the hot pot ... tazer her maybe? At most.

As a Law Enforcement Officer I see so many violations in the full video. I mean it just makes me think of how many black people the Police have killed. I just saw the full video which makes my spirit shake to the core. They took so long to render aide to this God fearing woman. A) At 7 seconds, she ducks behind the counter, still holding the oven mits. The pot is on the counter. Some people miss that subtle detail! Also, most people lie about the officer and insist that he told her to turn off the stove. This is not true.
B) From 9 seconds to 17 seconds, she is out of camera's view, but during this time she is picking the pot up again.
C) At 18 seconds, she can be seen rising. She has already picked up the pot again (off view).
D) At 19 seconds, you can see that she has the pot in her hands, and then she throws it at the officers. The open top is facing them.
E) At 20 - 23 seconds, you can see that the steaming water comes towards the officers. In particular, you can see that the water obscures the view of the castors of the black chair (best seen at 22 seconds).
F) The use of boiling liquid constitutes deadly force. The use of deadly force, such as discharging a firearm at an attacker, is a legal proportionate response.
G) It is important to realize that when someone claims self-defense, their use of deadly force is presumed to be lawful unless one or more of the five elements of self-defense are not present. The prosecutor has to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that one or more are not present. The prosecutor will not be able to do this. By the way, the video doesn't matter because the prosecutor has to provide proof that one or more of the five elements of self-defense were not present.
