Hey! Thanks so much for this, very helpful. Please may I ask for some advice though re an Omnibus F4 with VBAT input. I have an old one I want to use with INAV for an old plane and realised VBAT is dead so it's the opposite from what you show here. I followed the principles though and soldered a wire to the VBAT input and toned out the 2 diodes. No continuity beep. Also tried it on the 5v in pad and the same result. Does this mean the diodes are fine? Not sure what to try now. I can always grab a 5v board but, would like to learn how to fix this common fault.

Where can you get them at???Thanks
Grumpy John TX Redneck RC - you can get all those tiny electronic parts from banggood or even on wish. Drone Mesh showed some sample booklets of components you can buy on banggood. They are reference books with samples of the different sizes/clases, like, resistor samples, diodes and so on. But you should also be able to get them in packs of 25 or 50. All you need to know is the size and the name or number of the component. Most microelectronic parts have a number printed on them, but you need a magnifying glass/microscope to read them. Hope this helps, and good luck shopping ;-)

Hello Drone Mesh, I have started repairing due to your very very good videos. I repaired 1 4in1 already and switched out a F405 on a CL racing F4 that now is now fully functional again!! very happy with that !. However ont the topic of Schottky diodes. After some searching on the internet for the correct component I found that people have great succes with this type: BAT54C . However this is rated for 30Volts. Is that actually the correct one to use (I do understand the different types but it seems the correct working type, but the voltage me worries me.) Makes me wonder if I have a similar issue with my DALRC F405 AIO? When powering from Lipo no OSD. When first powering from USB, then connecting LiPo, everything works okay. Can then disconnect USB and fly without any problems...
i have a different issue with 5v reg. Fc mamba f405 mk2. Fc working correctly with usb port and battery power. But 5v pads on fc and osd doesn't working. When i check voltage on 5v pads i read something like 0.25 v on multimeter. I can still use fc but i want to see osd. I have a 5v bec. So can i fried fc if i connect 5v bec to 5v pads? (at the same time fc powered from battery)
Very very nice that you picked up this topic. For guys without fear from soldering this may become a tutorial. Because sometimes fix is certainly easy and you may avoid to purchase another flight controller that does cost 20 times more than fried diode. I hope that you can demonstrate soldering of SMD niceties too ;)
@@DroneMesh I said already that I have 2 faulty Racerstar TattooF4S FCs on bench. Can you help me please?
Now I have the opposite problem. I just wanted to reset my gyro in my 5 inch quad because angle mode made it pitch back and roll left about 5 degrees when you don't touch the sticks. I plugged into USB and got nothing. But if I also plug a battery in, Betaflight connects. I must have blown the schottky diode. I'll have to take the quad apart to test it I guess.
Please keep doing vids like these. This is huge for the community I can’t stress it enough or how important it is and really makes your channel stand out above the rest. Thank u
DM you are the man!!!! About to go home and fix my damn Mamba Mini F405...only boots with USB..I shorted the pig tail from the buzzer positive to a cap on the esc.
Follow up DM..I took everything apart and power up the quad with a battery...works find however my OSD is not working. I noticed the chip getting hot too. I used my hot air iron and removed the OSD but I didn't have the exact same model number. Decided to try anyways. Now I get a gray screen on the goggles when I power up the quad. Was worth a try. Know where I can get an AT7456E ?

Hi. Yesterday my quad died on the ground. no lights on FC (from batt and usb) but 5V is good because RC receiver and VTX work. 3V3 regulator or CPU? Thanks.
Great info bro! I have a few FlightOne MillivoltOSD flight controllers and have now verified that the 3.3v regulator is fried. How do i find where it is to replace it?
Great stuff! I think I found out what is wrong with my old EO11 FC, by watching this. The leds dimm after I connect power and I can not bind to it. I changed the diode but I think I used the wrong type. Is there a way to figure that out without having a diagram of the pdb? Maybe I used the wrong diode or even a mosfet, or is a mosfet just a type of diode? Thank you for this great video, I just learned something new, again, and found out about some features of my multimeter I haven't used so much.
mine is piko blx, when the usb connect the fc is on and betaflight detect it, but when the battery plugged, theres no power at all, the led is just off no power at all...is it a problem with diode too? or is just a bad fc and just throw it away....
I have mamba stack FC, I shorted it out accidentally. So there is no power when I connected to the 5v. but it does powered up if I put the USB in. which diode should I replaced?
I did a mistake 🤦 I forgot to attach the antenna before turning on the radio. I turn the radio on without antenna for approximately 3-5 minutes. I just started learning fpv and want to practice on the simulator. So I don't have any quad yet right now. How to check if my radio is still working before I buy a new quad?
Hi i had a motolab temptest and its a tight build i had to re-bind my xm+ after updating betaflight. I shorted out my unify in the process installed another and burnt it out also. How could I test my fc to see if theres a problem there now any info would be great.
sounds like your pumpin too many volts in it . is it a 5v vtx? if so get a multimeter and check DC volts on your 5v regulator output. if its bad it will show VBATT and not the stepdown voltage .
@@prrcpor the quad quad was perfect until i updated to 3.5 now its just destroyed 2 unifys think its better just to start fresh just keep frame motors thanks for your reply
I've got one that doesn't power on with a battery. It powers on only when the USB is plugged in and will spin the motors when a battery is plugged in while the USB is also plugged in. It's a brand new AIO TH2 board.
@@DroneMesh no. But there was a little thing that looked like the diode you were talking about but it had 3 on one side and 2 on the other. It was getting super hot. I removed it. Lol. And there was only 1 of those diode you showed. I removed it and tried to direct wire like you said. This was all before removing that other thing. I'd say it's pretty much trash now.. It's not getting 3.3v is the problem.. The 3.3v and ground are beeping when doing continuity test
Helpful vid. With cameras costing £30 a pop, it might also be popular to ( if its possible) do fixes if they've been fried by reversing polarity. I'm betting there are a few fried cameras out there'n who hasn't fried a camera at some stage?
Whenever I plug in my flight controller with USB or from a lipo, it just heats up with no sign of life. I did smoke it once. do you know what the problem could be?
Mine has a bad internal voltage regulator . Camera , rx , vtx , led pads , buzzer all dead .i think a red wire came off a camera and shorted or the whole thing heated from 2 battery flights and struck a branch. It all went black but had osd and vtx until i started wiggling it around trying to see if it was a loose plug . New flight controller is bigger and nicer . It has 5v and 10 v for vtx and i guess a 3.3v too inside the flight controller . Voltage regulators are 50 cents and fc are $50 . Don't overload your fc's voltage regulator with accessories.
I have the same fc. Mine won't power from usb either. But when I test for continuity on gnd and 3.3 I have a short. What can I do. I can't seem to find which shot is the bad 1
@@Tonynux I replaced my fc, it made contact with the frame and I'm guessing that happened when I had a hard crash. So I ended up placing electrical tape on the drone frame near where the fc is placed so I don't have any type of short circuits again
@@DroneMesh I am using the Emax F3 Femto FC. Since it is so small and cheap do you think it would be a better idea to replace the board. But I still don't know how it shorted in the first place. Nothing is connected to the 3.3v rail.
My micro quad is doing about the same thing. When i plug in the usb, the flight controller, and video transmitter powers on. However, when I power up my micro with a battery, i only hear 3 beeps and not the 5 beeps and nothing turns on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Ok, first of all, I get a lot of information from all your videos, yesterday my beta flight f7 went buns up. At first I thought my receiver died, no reaction with any input. Took it home. No power. Wouldn't either way, USB or battery. I checked it out, could only find 2 of those 3 legged things. ( sorry it's late) neither one is making any noise with battery or USB. Please help. I can't keep throwing 60. Boards at this. Thanks
I know this is old. But, I have a weird one. If i plug in with battery, the board lights up, but the blue FC light doesn't light up. The FC doesn't start up or boot betaflight, but the receiver and other parts power up. Get this, if I plug in a usb battery bank the fc boots, then if I plug in a battery everything works. Then, I can unplug the USB battery power and the quad stays working and flys!!. I've been flying like this for a few days. Plug in usb, then battery, then unplug usb and fly. It is a head scratcher. It must be browning out. I have a blitz f7 mini, which means it has plugs instead of pads (annoying) and its quite dense and small (annoying.) THank you

i have a different issue with 5v reg.
I have the x220 wizard I am getting 1,45v everywhere to ground any thoughts
Very very nice that you picked up this topic. For guys without fear from soldering this may become a tutorial. Because sometimes fix is certainly easy and you may avoid to purchase another flight controller that does cost 20 times more than fried diode. I hope that you can demonstrate soldering of SMD niceties too ;)
will do
@@DroneMesh I said already that I have 2 faulty Racerstar TattooF4S FCs on bench. Both have 5V BEC ceased to work (novelty switching chips for 3A current appeared weak) after hard crashes so I added external 5V BEC board to go around onboard BEC :) After last hard crash in begin of November one of these boards died completely now having 5V rail shorted to ground. I'm curious what happened now. I'll will look on that later. Now there are snow and -11C outside, nothing to do with big boys. Got a pair of Mobula7 in yesterday so winter is set :)
My fc isnt giving the last 2 beeps when i plug in just the battery, whut then i plug the usb and the battery , there were all the beeps. I saw your video, the 5v pad and diode part is showing continuity what shall be done ? Please help
I replaced the diode on my dalrcf405 aio, it works on USB but the LEDs are very dim and the receiver doesn't turn on is it maybe the wrong diode type?
Hi I encountered an issue with my fc and would be great is you could help me out
First my esc that was connected has a motor out of sync
Then the 3rd motor was not making any beeps on boot up
Then i reflashed the firmware and wasn’t able to do anything with it
My fc right now has 2leds on, one for power abs the blue boot led after which she sw led comes on
Could you help me out please
Hello bro, is beautiful your videos!, bro I have a problem whit the fc, the problem that I have is that all works correctly but the voltage in in betta flight always put 0v and when I conect the lipo is the same, always put 0v, when I disconnect of betta flight I can turn on the fc with the lipo, the gyro works fine only the problem.is that always say 0v have any idea of the problem bro?
You could of burnt the 5V also keep that in mind.
@@DroneMesh where is the 5v reg located on this board again? Could I replace with one from another FC?
Follow up DM..I took everything apart and power up the quad with a battery...works find however my OSD is not working. I noticed the chip getting hot too. I used my hot air iron and removed the OSD but I didn't have the exact same model number. Decided to try anyways. Now I get a gray screen on the goggles when I power up the quad. Was worth a try. Know where I can get an AT7456E ?
Hi. Yesterday my quad died on the ground. no lights on FC (from batt and usb) but 5V is good because RC receiver and VTX work. 3V3 regulator or CPU? Thanks.
Did you figure it out?
Great info bro! I have a few FlightOne MillivoltOSD flight controllers and have now verified that the 3.3v regulator is fried. How do i find where it is to replace it?
Never seen one... Would you like to donate one for a fix video?
@@DroneMesh Sure. Where to send to? Also, i double checked and the 3.3v is fine, just cant find the diod for the usb 5v.
Dim led is usually a short on 3.3v
mine is piko blx, when the usb connect the fc is on and betaflight detect it, but when the battery plugged, theres no power at all, the led is just off no power at all...is it a problem with diode too? or is just a bad fc and just throw it away....
I have mamba stack FC, I shorted it out accidentally. So there is no power when I connected to the 5v. but it does powered up if I put the USB in. which diode should I replaced?
Same here, have you find the solution ?
@@lteurnier unfortunately no :(
@@lteurnier and same here!😫
I did a mistake 🤦 I forgot to attach the antenna before turning on the radio. I turn the radio on without antenna for approximately 3-5 minutes. I just started learning fpv and want to practice on the simulator. So I don't have any quad yet right now. How to check if my radio is still working before I buy a new quad?
hey man, i got my mamba f405 and vcc and gnd has continuity. there's no visible short. nothing gets hot. any thoughts? thanks!!
also, my matek 6s pdb the 5v regulator is burnt, can i still use it to power my quad (thru vcc)?
Bro what is that two silver brick type thing which says 100 ? When I connect my board that thing is getting hot
hi my friend what can i do if the graund and the 3.3v Beeping when i check ? and the usb not conect
I got a omnibus f4 v5 with dom LEDs. Where do I send it?
What does the 3.3v regulator look like?
Fantastic work, dude! Really, really nice to know that! 😃
@@prrcpor the quad quad was perfect until i updated to 3.5 now its just destroyed 2 unifys think its better just to start fresh just keep frame motors thanks for your reply
on my wizard the biggest chip on the Fc gets hot and there are no lights burning what is then the problem? i happend when i soldered a camera on it
I've got one that doesn't power on with a battery. It powers on only when the USB is plugged in and will spin the motors when a battery is plugged in while the USB is also plugged in. It's a brand new AIO TH2 board.
Question. If board does not power from either lipo or usb how do you figure out which diode it is?
Is the big chip on the board getting really hot?
Great, how do I swap it though?
I have a flight controller that powered from the USB but not from the battery.
My question is - How do you replace the 5v regulator on the board?
Love your work. Hopefully I can try find the issue of one of my dead boards👍
if you never find them you can also donate them for me to find them ;)
I have a problem ... the battery is not detected in Betaflight ... what should I replace
Mine works when i plug it in with usb led’s two. but not with my battery it had a short what can i do?
lol i think i blew the stmf7 chip itself could i just put another chip on it actually runs same target
What happens if it is the 3.3 volt regulator??
Love this guy, man.
Could you show the process of replacing the bad part? Thanks meshman
Sure
I have the same fc. Mine won't power from usb either. But when I test for continuity on gnd and 3.3 I have a short. What can I do. I can't seem to find which shot is the bad 1
Did you figure it out?
I have the opposite problem my fc powers off usb when plugged in but doesnt work when my lipo is plugged in
Found out what happened to mine the onboard 5v on my iflight succeX D fc fried lol
@@Omega70 So I confirm I have the same issue now
@@Omega70 How did you solve the problem? Having same issue.
@@Tonynux I replaced my fc, it made contact with the frame and I'm guessing that happened when I had a hard crash. So I ended up placing electrical tape on the drone frame near where the fc is placed so I don't have any type of short circuits again
I've been watching a few of your videos and only just discovered that I was not subscribed...corrected.
Hello i have a 25mw fpv camera which include a transmitter and this thing overheat and the lens dissolves.
What do I do if I did find continuity between 3.3v and ground. where is the 3.3v regulator on the board and how do I replace it? PLEASE HELP!!!!!
What board are you using.
@@DroneMesh I am using the Emax F3 Femto FC. Since it is so small and cheap do you think it would be a better idea to replace the board. But I still don't know how it shorted in the first place. Nothing is connected to the 3.3v rail.
For the diode both sides are working.
hmm... do you also have a short on 5V?
@@DroneMeshNo
mine doesnt light up at all, not from the USB or battery. i have no idea whats wrong and I'm worried
🤔 none of thoose diodes beep when i check them with 5v pads
Great video, thanks for sharing and may God bless
My micro quad is doing about the same thing. When i plug in the usb, the flight controller, and video transmitter powers on. However, when I power up my micro with a battery, i only hear 3 beeps and not the 5 beeps and nothing turns on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Seems like its the same issue as in this video. ESC initialize but the 3.3v does not boot up the MCU.
I don't hve cotton tuity mode on my multi meter :(
Ok, first of all, I get a lot of information from all your videos, yesterday my beta flight f7 went buns up. Thanks
Go to dronemeshforum.com and send pics of both sides and I'll check it as soon as I am on the PC
I tried to send you those pictures to your forum, apparently I’m not smart enough. Can’t figure out how to attach pictures.
So my FC turns on through microUSB and connects to Betaflight fine, but does not power on from my battery. Anyone know how I can fix it?
I know this is old. But, I have a weird one. If i plug in with battery, the board lights up, but the blue FC light doesn't light up. The FC doesn't start up or boot betaflight, but the receiver and other parts power up. Get this, if I plug in a usb battery bank the fc boots, then if I plug in a battery everything works. Then, I can unplug the USB battery power and the quad stays working and flys!!. I've been flying like this for a few days. Plug in usb, then battery, then unplug usb and fly. It is a head scratcher. It must be browning out. I have a blitz f7 mini, which means it has plugs instead of pads (annoying) and its quite dense and small (annoying.)
THank you
I get a short on the 3.3v pads :(
Even my betaflight f4 has a short 3.3 v pads but now what to do , how to revive it again
