Dan I just want to say that ever since I found your channel 3 years ago, bought your marsh and swamp bedding videos, and have been applying your knowledge to how to get on these public land deer it all paid off today! I didn't get the right shot, but a beautiful 10 pointer came by along with two really nice 8 pointers this morning here on the public in Michigan. I can't thank you enough for all of your advice and knowledge, I had the greatest hunting experience of my life this morning!!!
@KevinFrasard I'm 41 and hunted since I was 9. I've never found a buck bed till I watched his videos. The hill bedding I've watched both atleast 6 times. Still learn something everytime I watch it. Just gotta have his will power to pass the decent to kill a giant. Man that's gotta be hard
Forget them, you are badass I have learned so much because of what you do. If they can't see what your teaching us then maybe they should watch someone else. Thank you for everything
Thanks for really breaking down your thought process. It really helps. Not just someone that a guide sits in a tree and says the feeders turn on at 7 be ready. You’re really making it happen. Thanks.
Love the hat. Myself and all other LEO's appreciate the support. I believe the plant you keep talking about in the last few videos is Jewel Weed. We have a lot of it here in NW PA. If you get into Poison ivy, rub it on area and suppose to get rid of it. Did some research on it and it said deer love it.
Dan I have to say, you are brilliant, I’ve been hunting all of my life, and I just haven’t been able to figure these big bucks out, well that is until I started watching how you hunt them, find their bedding and get in close, but not to close. Well October 1st I was able to take my biggest buck ever, 157 7/8 ten point, that’s a pretty good buck here in Tennessee. I just want to say, thank you so much, I have learned more in the past two years watching your videos, then the first twenty years of my hunting career.
Man do these videos get me fired up for the week of hunting ahead! The nuance you bring to deer hunting is unmatched. I agree that we need a retired Dan for full time content!
I subscribe because you teach something every video, especially when you don't bag one, and I learn from listening to how you think as you evaluate sign. Dan, you are who you are and you don't apologize for it. Thank you for making me a better hunter
This past weekend i set up on the edge of pond/swamp from about 100yrds where i could see into the pockets of cattails and brush bushes. Seen a big 150class buck get right up out of his bed at 5pm. Now i know for sure he leaves there time to move in or around. But i never would have keyed in on the water spots like i do now days after watching the beast. Great info and pointers Dan 👍
I just love these videos. Very educational. Keep them coming! I'm like a young kid getting an early Christmas present when I see these videos. These are the best videos hands down.
Dan, great video. I had opening day in Virginia yesterday. I have been listening to all of your podcasts, videos and your website all off season. Thanks for all the great info. I used your methods to see two deer where i never saw deer before. I shot right over a decent buck at 40 yards, but he came right from bedding on the tip of the woodline in the marsh like I learned from you
Hey man, I only started hunting last year, but I've started putting some of your tactics to work. I'm hoping to get my first buck this year. Thank you for the videos.
Dan, that is jewell weed. It grows in close proximity to stinging nettle. If you rub the jewel weed on you after getting stung by nettles it soothes the burn. God's plan is a wonderful thing.😁
You’re awesome man. Thanks for all you go through to teach us that hunting doesn’t have to be all toys and gadgets and to bring us back to the basics of why we hunt. Thanks also for not baking down from your opinions. Truly inspiring. Applying your wisdom is changing the way I hunt (95% public land).
Great content on your method of narrowing in for the kill. Got me some TideWe hip boots this week and wore them in for a kayak access last night. #huntlikeabeast
Heck yeah! I think we crossed your camera here a couple weeks ago...If you see some crazy kids hiking back in waving to what looks like to be your camera it was us!!😅😅
This was a great informative video Dan. Thanks for sharing. As a veteran and regards to your “hat”, It’s a Patriotic statement that say’s you have balls to support your homeland. Ya need to come down here to NE Arkansas Dan! I know some swamp ground and even alot of public stuff that has some giants would love to see ya break down on a map!
Been watching a lot of your content the past year, thanks for all the advise ; Appreciate it, I've been trying to hunt more aggressively, I got a some milk weed and have been paying more attention to the wind / thermals , still learning but getting better ! I usually hunt swamps near rivers ideally, but not sure how to hunt them at night because the thermals fall right to where the deer are? Would you just try to setup in the swamp downwind of the bucks exit runway, or try to get him in the morning when he is returning to the bed? thanks !
Hahahahahahahahahahaha...you beast ... Been watching you for a long while , you wish you were an Indian , but , you are so proud of your facial hair...just like 👍 a proud Indian would wanna be ...hahaha !!
If there are miles of walking/bridal/apv trails more going in every year. Walk few hundred yards bam a trail. How or what is a over looked spot. I see a ton of buck beds rubs scrapes but no mature sign but 1 spot looking at a parking area. Which is wierd cause this spot gets barely used compared to others. Mature sign is looking slim sofar. Any pointers. You've got me hooked I feel like I should be paying you for the information.
They will bed real close to the trails... Ive got areas like that too. Over looked can be 100 yards from a busy trail, house, road, etc... And often is...
@thehuntingbeast folks here don't like water just like you've mentioned. They don't like thick either. I've noticed some hills are covered in briars while other hills are more open. How thick is to thick for a monster or will they make exceptions with heavy pressure
So i hear you say all the time I think i got in quiet. Don't you have to lift the step and drop into place stand as well to get a firm bite? How the heck you do that quietly. Does the bark not make noise?
@@thehuntingbeast gotcha. Never used sticks or lock on. But new beginnings after watching your videos. Just sucks i gotta wait 9 months till next season
Do u use any scent spray or just play wind, and what do I think about ground scent as ur walking on deer paths, do u got back the next day or do u think the deer won’t walk there cus they smell ur ground scent
I dont believe any scent elimination product reduces enough scent to make any difference. I play the wind and watch where I walk. I rarely hunt the same spot twice.
You be surprised what I've got my climber into. Summits are great for small trees regular and decent size trees maybe get a tooth in. Not ideal. However seems like tight situations you are never strait lol. Leaning to 1 side or leaning forward. Summits can't do half what i see you do comfortably that's a darn fact.
Yea, they can be forced into all kinds of situations, and like you say get in 1/2 the trees.... 1/2 don't cut it for me... I only get so many chances in a year, cutting that in 1/2 would greatly effect my end result. I mean really? What are you defending? If it works great for you, in your area, more power to you. I have to get into limby trees, buckthorn, etc. even if I could get into those trees why would I want it more noisy, and more movement, and more likely to bet busted? I would be fine sitting in either, both can be carried the same? But one im going to kill more deer out of...
@thehuntingbeast I wasn't defending it. Just mentioned I've got my climber into some tough situations but the beast stand does it way more comfortable. No way on a leaning tree I could make it work. Heck you just sit on the side of it. 1 tooth sometimes that's unreal. My goal is to have 1 by next season. Practice with it before I even go hunting. Got 2 summits. I sell them that'll get me a good chunk for sticks and beast stand. Plus it's half the weight. Mine is 20lbs. 6.8lb sound really nice
That was awesome ending was that Dave also me and my son which is fifteen are heading to Wisconsin to hunt some public we will be pulling out of Kentucky Sunday I'm half scared to ask u this is there any part of the state u recommend
Here's a message to the haters. So you think Dan is just showing off when he posts videos of how he gets to remote hunting spots? So what if he is. I'll give you my take. Dan may not have to access the areas he does to kill big bucks but he chooses to. Can you imagine the gratifying feeling of killing a 150" deer 2 miles deep in the swamp? It has to add to the great feeling of success. That's cool to me. Just imagine the stories that he has to tell his grandchildren. It's tough accessing these areas and I think Dan likes it that way. It just adds to the storyline. And not to mention it's great exercise. If you don't like it then don't hate on Dan because you could just go watch something that you do like
Saturday evening I saw 16 doe, well also 4 or so button bucks included in that but it was pretty cool bcs they were coming right under me. One big mature doe kept putting her nose to the air and at one point stomped but she wasn't looking at me she was facing in a different direction but I think she got my ground scent but couldn't pin point it. she was standing right where I walked in. One doe smelt the ladder to my ladder stand. It was cool but that's to many doe. They just kept coming in waves starting at 4 p.m. so when's the public land challenge this year?

What do the rubs on the trees mean that it is the bucks area and how do you know how big the buck is does the size of the tree tell you that?
Center height of the rub is the biggest factor, with older bucks dubbing higher
