Yeah he was entirely accurate on my part. My dad brought it home, we actually liked it though, we used it for a couple of months, but it got to expensive and now it collects dust.

My dad did a similar thing with a liquor tap, he put some whiskey in it, we tested it out with a few sips and I think he gave it away.

I work in a argos and I can confirm they are still selling, people still trade in there old empty c02 for new ones
It'd a total ripoff over $100 for the machine and like $80 for each canister. Then $20 for the syrup. @@Will-22
The canisters only cost £20 over here. We must have a CO2 reservoir somewhere that makes it cheaper.
I wonder if they are importing the CO2 canisters/supply from Europe if that's the case and the markup is from import tariffs. I'll have to look next time I see them. @@louiseogden1296
@@MrWolfSnack I just bought a new machine heavily discounted. €50 for machine (including a bottle & canister, €12 for a canister (60L) and €4 for Pepsi Max, 7 Up & Ice Tea a piece. I stocked up for about 300L in total after I sampled it first.
At this discount it's definitely worth it. Pepsi has gone up a LOT since COVID - by 50% easily. I now pay €2.2 for a bottle of 1.5L or €1.5 per liter. Same for 7 Up.
€12 for 60L means €0.3 for 1.5L. The syrup is €4 for 9 liters (but I find that it tastes just as good with a little less syrup so I should be able to get to 10-11) so let's say 50 cents per liter of 75 cents for 1.5L.
Basically, I pay €1.05 for something that tastes VERY close to real Pepsi Max with these benefits:
- less plastic waste & no lugging heavy packs of soda from stores
- I can add fizz if it goes flat (half my bottles go flat when there's only a third or less left so I have to poor it out)
- I can make as much as I need - if someone wants a glass or two, I fill the bottle only halfway.
- I don't need a ton of space in my fridge - I keep a few chilled bottles of water & can add what I want when needed.
When NOT discounted it's about 30-50% more expensive which is still cheaper than the store but but not by that much. I've bought enough to last me 6 months (the syrup doesn't use up a lot of space after all) and after that I'll have earned back the cost of everything really. Saving € a liter times 300 ...

Had one years ago, gas bottles didn't last long and they were expensive to replace.
I usually just go to Sainsburys now, they sell 2 litre bottles of carbonated spring water for 20p! yes 20 pence. I get 5-6 bottles of those and store them. Make my own Pink Lemonade from a punnet of raspberries, lemon and orange, all boiled with sugar on the hob. This in turn makes a lovely syrup which you add to the carbonated water and voila! a healthier (compared to the likes of coca cola etc) fizzy drink.

1/2 cup of apple cider (you can replace it with apple juice)

WOW these have come a long way. I bought one a month ago, and it's way improved, everyone in the house uses it. The bottles are dishwasher safe now, and they have officially licensed soda syrups from Pepsi and bubly. They do still lose carbonation kinda fast though.
Have Pepsi Max syrup myself, just waiting until I have a spare moment after Christmas to try it out.

Dear Dr. A... two things:
1. It would've been interesting to see how sodastreaming other beverages would've turned out - like tea, coffee, wine, fresh OJ, Frijj milkshake, soup, gravy, etc...
2. When I was about 8 or 9 (so 1985-ish) I bought a can of drink that was called something like "Chocolade". Yup, a chocolate flavoured fizzy drink (in the UK btw). It was vile! Like someone had chewed up some generic milk chocolate and spat it into a can of lemonade. Unsurprisingly I never saw it again but also I've never been able to find any reference of it on t'interweb. Maybe you can? Or maybe you don't give a toss? Just thought I'd mention it.

yeah. i imagine it's so the sodastream nozzle doesn't clog up from all the sugar. I watched in terror as he added the flavoring into the bottle.
I think it's because the fizziness reacts more violently to the syrupy water than the plain water. But the nozzle getting clogged would be another reason.
@@theblackwidower Nah. It is so sugar does not get into the nozzle since that first of all can clog it up and much worse acts as a breeding ground for bacteria so unless you clean it very well all the time you will spray condensed bacteria into your water in no time.

Had one of these in the 80s when I lived in a Australian outback mining town and was cheaper and handy to have at home. But then branded fizzy drinks got extremely cheap making sodastream expensive. I purchased one in 2003 for nostalgia only for them to change the gas bottles design 3 weeks after purchase. I got a few remaining old bottles to finish off my syrups then chucked it in the rubbish. Never felt so ripped off from that. My most favorite flavor was Portello.

Unless you want blow up your Soda Stream, do NOT try and make fizzy milk. I did once at my dad's - he went mental 'cause he'd only had it a day. I never did tell him it was because of my experiment...I spent a good couple of hours cleaning up and supergluing that bastard together again so as to destroy all the evidence of my exploits.

Your supposed to put the bubbles in the water before adding the syrup. And you can add more gas, I usually add way more than three short bursts. You keep adding gas until it makes a distinctive noise, that sounds like a fart.

I have it on the good authority of Gary Hendersen, who was 10 when I was 8 and lived round the corner, that if you put an already-fizzy drink in a Soda Stream, it will blow your house up.
Personally, I think cream soda is my favorite flavor of soda just because it's the one that always tastes different depending on who made it. I feel like no 2 brands of cream soda taste quite the same.

TheArnoldification Good cream soda is rich and sweet, and it can be a bit too strong drank quickly. As someone who drinks and eats things very quickly all at once, I sip cream soda very slowly. A couple brands that I favor are Stewarts and Boyland. I generally find the brown, caramel colored ones to be best, and some clear ones are decent. Stay away from that pink shit though.

I did the math on these when they first came out... its as expensive as any normal brand softdrink with maybe a .05 cent savings per oz. Its mostly in the $15 C02 can... I played painball years ago and they give you like $.50 of C02 in their canister. It was the greatest marketing idea ever though. its new age revolutionary branding "Large" looking amount of servings, and promise to bring cheap drink options to you, everyone bought it. my walmart was sold out for 3 months! these guys made bank off a well laid scam
To be honest it depends on where you live. For example, I live in Finland, where you can drink tap water, so only the syrup and the co2 will cost you. Half a liter of regular soda costs about 2 euros here, which is around $2.75. Making half a liter of Sodastream soda costs you about 0.40 euros, which is just $0.55, so it is way cheaper.

Bottled water is just bottled tap water from your local water system and a 500% markup. (Maybe some filtration and a few minerals but they spend almost nothing on that.)
In the United States this thing was all the hype just a couple of years ago.
I think the main draw of a SodaStream is putting your own flavors in it. You can buy better-quality cola syrup, or juice concentrate, or even make your own syrup.

I still have one. It's good for carbonating or re-carbonating drinks. The flavor mixes are iffy though.
I haven't any kids, but I just brought one home for myself, and I'd definitely inflict it on my kids if I had one... I got three bottles of the flavor mixes (root beer, Dr. Pete, and orange), but haven't touched them yet: I've been having too much fun carbonating everything else that comes to mind - Kool-Ade lemonade carbonated isn't half bad! I'll try recarbonating the flat bottle of tonic I opened months ago and forgot about later. Can't wait to try some home-made root beer, cream soda, and sarsaparilla with all-natural ingredients, I'm trying to think of a way of doing home-made ginger-ale, and I'm curious about carbonated coffee, tea, and wine (home-made champagne?) This thing's a hoot!
You're meant to fizz the water first, then put the syrup in (look at the side of the syrup bottle).
I think he's said before in the comments (back before youtube fucked the comment system) that it doesn't actually matter what order you do it in, it just says that because if you do the fizz first then you don't have to clean the syrup off the nozzle.

I actually got a Sodastream for Christmas and I am actually enjoying this. We actually prepped it the way you did in the video and how the instructions told us to do it and the taste is night and day. Putting the flavor in before carbonating the water kills the flavor...and if you don't wait, it will cause a great volcanic effect. Following the instructions and it actually tastes quite nice.
I still enjoy the video and the rest of your videos, Ashens. I'm tempted to try some of the other flavors out there.

I'd received one of these as a gift. I don't care for soda, but often make my own sparkling water, rather than buying bottles, mix it with cranberry juice and maybe vodka and lime juice, or just drink as is. You don't need to put it in the dishwasher, as you aren't supposed to put the syrup in the bottle.
Also, you needn't dispose of the canister. Just have it refilled at a sporting goods store which refills paintball tanks, and continue to use the machine for practically nothing. It's actually a huge money saver. Love the Flanders reference.

With the soda stream, if you use more pressure and less syrup, it takes less like a cheap brand

ndrthrdr1 Where I am the flavours we get are actually indistinguishable from actual softdrinks, and much better flavours, also mixing the drink before you carbonate them was the cause of the need to wait, which undoubtedly affected the review.
