I got this camera for Christmas and I just wanted to see what other people thought about it and it seems really great and perfect for what I need it for! One thing I noticed when I was using my camera for the first time was when you are about to take a picture the screen or preview isn't as good and looks more dull than the actual picture you take(if that makes any sense with the way I worded it). Other than that it seems really good and easy to get the hang of. Thanks for the review!

YEAR update: I still have this camera as my main driver. I didn't make many videos this year because a lot of things happened to me in the time but I still love it. CONS: The indoor filming quality isn't the best and doesn't really perform in darkness that well. It also needs improvement on auto focus, it takes a good long while for it to focus from the distance, you just have to be patient about it. PROS: The outdoor filming quality is awesome, if you go to my NickOhio Vlogs channel you will see what I'm talking about with the 1st summer vlog. The picture quality is pretty amazing both indoors and out. I have a few pictures that I got from my trip to Los Angeles that are stunning. Once the auto focus finally cooperates, the picture quality from a distance can be amazing, I have a picture that I took of the moon that is absolutely amazing. Also, the audio is pretty good, amazing compared to my last camera. So overall, if you can afford it, get another camera. But if you can't afford much like I couldn't and you want at least a camera that's decent, I would get this camera. The previous camera I got for my birthday was able to start me out, but I saved up and got this camera and I don't regret it.
I have this camera (picked it up used for $100) and love it. It's not perfect though; my main gripe is it tends to go out of focus when using the zoom while recording....low performance basically sucks too. After less than a year of owning this camera, I successfully damaged the LCD screen, but it should be an easy fix.
We got a deal on this camera at costco for about $150. Like you said it is made to stay in the auto-mode and it needs lots of light. I can't find a microphone jack; I wanted to start doing more video with it. Thanks for the video.
I own this camera. I bought it at Best Buy here in New York. It's a good camera. It shoots good HD video. I used this camera to make a short video. I just have a problem with the built in mic. The sound quality is okay, but not all too great. But I do like this camera. I've shot many pictures with this camera. Picture quality is terrific. But sometimes I have to mess around with the ISO to shoot good shoots in daylight and at night. But it's a good camera. I like it a lot. I will be using this camera to take pictures at the upcoming New York International Auto show in March of 2016. I give this camera a B+. I just wish the audio recording was much better.
I dropped my super cheap camera and broke it so I'm looking for an upgrade to replace it. This camera seems perfect except it looks like the screen doesn't flip all the way to the front so you can record yourself and make sure you are in frame etc. I want a camera for vlogging and also to take photos for items to sell on eBay. Actually a smaller camera might be more practical because of ease of transport and I could use a selfie stick with it. Do you have any recommendations? I searched online for point and shoot cameras with flip screen and turned up very few, and most of them used.
I have the Nikon Coolpix L840 and I love it. Great pictures. I do mostly B&W shots. And this camera is amazing at it. Does not get real grainy. So yeah it is def one of my faves. Also there is an App you can get on android or apple. This sweet app lets you control your camera from your phone.

I got this camera refurbished for 220$. Watch for sales around Christmas but don't wait until 1 week before cuz then the price will be higher. Works pretty good, I haven't had any problems with it.

A Great Camera Karl, But...what most fail to point out is, the camera does not come with a memory card, and to get the full use of the HD you need to purchase and SDXC memory card which runs around $40-$60 bucks retail...So you may want to purchase one online before getting the camera. It also has some features that the others in its class and price range dont. Like... WIFI and the ability to plug in an adapter as a power source. Or charger if you purchase rechargeable batteries, The folding screen is not only great for over the head crowd beater shoots, BUT...you can flip it upwards when doing some low to the ground photos of flowers in macro mode...
That being said, I'm going on a trip soon and I wanted a simple point and shoot. I'm a beginner, but I want something that can give me really clear photos. I bought the l340, but watching your reviews made me consider replacing it with the l840. What is your favorite entry level point and shoot, or semi dslr?
I recommend the l340 - As long as you have somewhere to store the photos I.e a computer, the L340 is a good point and shoot. It's going for around £100 now but I think it should be more. If you don't have a computer, go for the l840 as is has the wifi ability so you can broadcast the photos on your phone. :)
Hi, I purchased this camera (Nikon L840) because of the awesome zoom. It takes great video, but this is where I found an issue: when I tried to zoom in on an object far away, it took about 5 - 7 seconds to focus on the object. When I would finally get a clear, focused shot, and tried to take a pic, the pic would come out VERY blurry, even though the object was focused. I tried that with non moving objects, but still VERY blurry. Not sure if this was just an issue with this particular unit or if it is an issue with this model. I ended up just returning it after using it 2 days. Anyone have similar issues? I really like the camera and I'm wondering if I should give this model another chance.
Paola Pad Having the same exact issue. Messed around with all the settings and can hardly get the thing to focus, once it finally does the shot is mostly blurry. Very disappointed.

Victoria Smith i would get the entry level sony mirrors series. unless you need a super zoom lens, these aren't the best

Same issue, I just change it to close up mode and make more effort to have a steady hand, it seems to stay in focus a bit better in close up mode
