Neil Ruffell + a guy called Russell Hawkes pointed out the crack on the downtube near the bottom bracket on my .. red Raleigh Burner it was promptly welded with a shelf bracket also welded in as a gusset to strengthen the frame (£5 repair cost in 1983 probably £20 these days)? That was at Grove BMX track in Rayleigh. I actually watched that track being made (82/83) and the guy in the bulldozer was talkiing to "us kids" and he said the council had paid 28 grand for the job. Some of the best (and occasionally "worst") days of my life were spent at this track well it was in my hometown and it was a mile away from where we lived. Craig and Phraser Campbell spent some sunny afternoons at this track too their parents owned a shop (Bull Lane Stores) in Rayleigh and they had a quarter pipe in their back garden - even if you had a rubbish bike somehow you could pimp it up properly with Skyways and put decent bars and brakes etc it was the law to at least have real OGK Mushroom grips (Sharp grips were quite good as well as latex grips go) ....
The CW freestyle bars in the video thumbnail (that Craig used for the footplant in the keyhole at Southsea) I used to own, bought them from James Booth who got them from Craig after KOS '84
Happy days, getting pirated audio cassettes of electro albums etc down the market 🙄 having a poo bmx with skyway stickers on 🤦🏼♂️milk crate jumps... now I’m a middle age kid doing it on Mtb’s and I can afford nice bikes now, Happy days. Thanks for the videos.
