    Last week I was working on building a temporary race track and the only complaints were from old guys who wanted a track more like this video. Honestly I would love to see a modern bmx race on a track like this. It would be so funny to see the new school full carbon riders turn up and see tiny tight 180 turns, no flow, flat sections. I would enjoy that

    At this popint Griggs was racing on a Free Agent with Redline stickers. Switched after Kastan sold to Seattle bike company.

    Look at Griggs snap the lower gate. It's funny because, if I remember correctly, there was a restart in the 3rd AA main the previous year where Griggs went down before the first jump and a restart was called while Ellis was leading. Also remember Ellis had so many points he didn't even need to go to the grands and he'd have won the title.

    Check out Corky's other Grands videos and you can see that the tracks back then were meant to wreck you. You had jumps that were too short and riders end up flatting the landing. Lips that would launch you. There was a jump at the old Cowtown BMX in Ft. Worth TX called the 'Widow Maker' Now all the 'jumps' are all rounded nicely so no one gets hurt at the new break neck speeds racers are going these days. The speed is impressive, but there is no comparison to the elbows we used to throw in every race. That was the best! Dallas County Cycle Park 87-94 , Dean Hickey rules.

      Totally agree with you, now with cowtown bmx track, I know the first cowtown i raced at had that big step up that was fun to jump. I think that track was near I 30 and I 35, then when the finnel became Vice President of ABA, Chris Eudaley opened up green goat bmx (cowtown bmx today) which is next to where the original cowtown was. Never got to race on the original. Dean hickey to me was by far one of the best track builders ever. I remember after the mesquite track closed to be moved to Sunnyvale, I used to race against this dude Jason Ream. Dean would get hyped up if Jason and I had a good race. I missed my racing days

      @@slothitwonder1015 We must have run into each other then. I started racing at the Balch Springs track DCCP1, then both the Mesquite track off Bruton rd and then Sunnyvale! Small world. I remember a local race where Zach Roebuck, Jeremy Johnson, and Todd Kowalewski and I were in the main together. I was way in last (cause lets be real) and the 3 of them had an over the berm tussel in turn 2. I was able to get by and win that one.... They had to run get a trophy for me cause I needed proof that I won that race LOL

    @JaREEDeffect They had that "tight last turn" at the Grands for years. I can remember them specifically every year from '86 to '91. However, the controversy over the Amateur Title in '91 (due to a last-ditch move and controversial DQ) made that tight last turn disappear for a while... Plus berms are way bigger now...

    To the guy who said his 15 year old would be pissed to show up at the Grands and see a track that weak? More likely he would be pissed because he would have actually had to pedal.

    I just found on VHS from when i taped that weekend. I'm in the process of converting over video and I'll post also. For being 20+ years ago., IT WAS advanced. crazy how far BMX has come.

  • @corkyg
    @corkyg  13 лет назад +2

    My thoughts, exactly. This track is "lame" because it was 20 years ago! No clips. No gigantic starting hills. And frankly, not nearly the budget available to put together the way things are done today. That's like saying old football videos are lame because they don't have giant pads and helmets and they don't hit as hard. Well, you can't please everyone.

      @@CodeRedRiot Racing today is WAY different than it was back then. Sad to see. Today's racing is so much "follow the leader" that it can actually be boring to watch. :-( Has everything to do with track design and clipless pedals.
