@@GTAJeff At least they went for the title to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles school... you combine a bunch of unrelated but marketable stuff in the title and you have your basic concept...
This show was absolute schlock, but there was one thing i remember that was pretty clever: Once, their enemy sent a bomb that they had to diffuse in a classic cut the right wire method. They were supposed to cut the red wire or something, but all the wires were the same color. They eventually realized that the color spectrum of their enemy's planet was different (his sun was blue, i think), so the wires would be different colors under a blue light.
I remember that episode and that was actually pretty clever. I always kinda looked at this show as the sort of Red Dwarf of 90s American Tokusatsu. It was funny but not always witty or clever in terms of playing with tropes.
Please tell me if we keep mentioning Zubilee Zoo we get a video on it!! I was in love with this show when I was like, 5, and my favorite character definitely was Whazzat!
Let me just say: I look forward to every episode of Everything You Didn't Know! I enjoy it so much, I watch episodes of shows I avoided back in the day. Still waiting for a TMNT 2003 episode!
Turtles had better "copy cats." Because I liked Swat Katz and Biker Mice From Mars as series that stand on their own. Superhuman Syber-Squad was the best Power Rangers clone attempt. Syber Squad > VR Troopers > Big Bad Beetle Borgs > > > >Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters.
VR Troopers and Beetleborgs were supposed to be an interconnected universe with Power Rangers... They name dropped Zordon and Alpha 5. The Beetleborgs they showed in an episode of Power Rangers Wild Force "Forever Red". They were trying to repower Lord Zedd's Serepenterra. But VR Troopers ended up on another network. I live in New York City, so Fox 5 was the channel that had all 3 shows Power Rangers, Masked Rider and Beetleborgs. V. R. Troopers were on channel 11, which (at the time) was The WB.
Well I wouldn't say that Swat Kats and Biker Mice from Mars was a copycat off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I see like this they were completely different from Ninja Turtles
In all sarcastic feelings - No! You didn't have to talk about TTAFBH! Ever! This was horrible! Why?! Bad you! Bad! Also, the best Power Rangers rip offs are Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad and Mystic Knights of Ti Ra Nog.
This show i watched sometimes but rarely. Didn't get too into it. But I loved Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. Had all the toys for that series. I wish I held on to them, but unfortunately they got passed down to my younger brother who destroyed most of the toys and they all eventually got thrown out or sold. Also, really liked VR Troopers and Masked Rider. Power Rangers was #1 of course.
The one teammate in the syber squad, the one that always had a different thing to say when he transformed to join Matthew Laurence's character in fighting the monsters I remember seeing him as the best friend of the title character of this show on Fox TV
@TripleDoubleNoTAS none of them are copy cats though, their all adaptions of Japanese tv shows with completely different reasons for being created long before power rangers.

It only lasted one season because it was an awful show. It tried to capitalize on the popularity of Power Rangers and failed to do so. This show took camp to a whole new level.
I was actually insane enough to watch more than one episode of this crappy show. Thankfully I came to my senses. For all the cheese of Power Rangers, at least it was watchable.
You're goddamn right I remember Zoobilee Zoo. Every morning on TLC when that channel was educational & not reality shows about 700 lb people & polygamists
I don't know why but I feel like this gets us one step closer to a WMAC Masters EYDK lol. I only heard about TTAFFBH a couple of months ago and I have no idea where I heard about it from. It must've been mentioned on another EYDK.
I stumbled on this in 1995 when I was in college. I set my alarm for classes for 6am, put this on the tv, and after Knightron did his pose I started getting up. Simpler times. Was overjoyed when I found this on the "Dis" network or something as an adult like 5 years ago. My wife loved it, as it was so bad.
I think they should have used being a US production more to their advantage. Maybe have set it in the Southwest? A Western theme would've definitely made it stand out. And even the "alien landscape" fight stage would've worked for it as is. And we've got some great landscapes to film in for free like the old Westerns use to.
The chick playing Laurie was almost 30 back then. it's all good. she kept 12 year old me coming back ever so often. but I didn't dig this one like the other live action shows from the same genre at the time. I stayed on MMPR for almost 3 years and I watched Samurai Squad and Masked Rider for about one season each. Sadly I think that's all those 2 did get. Most likely for the reason you already pointed out: no TAKU footage. you have to remember that Japan has been doing shows like these since 1976. at least since then. and the first dose we got over here was made in 1992. They had 16 years on us with costume design and fight choreography. the show never had a chance but I still love Laurie. ❤
