10 Underrated Western Tokusatsu That Are Lost In Sands Of Time Now!

- If you can commercialize content for children, success is bound to follow! The biggest example of this strategy is the grand popularity of Power Rangers. It has been the longest-running children’s action franchise for over twenty-five years now, and even today, new incarnations are consistently coming out. From films to TV series to cartoons, the journey has been outstanding, and it also created the ideal platform for some others to try and take a bite out of the success Tokusatsu was more like a special effects film, and hundreds of such films gained popularity in the Japanese markets. The American adaptation, Power Rangers, was the best of Tokusatsu in the West, but it was still toned down from the original Super Sentai because the audience wasn’t prepared for the absurdity.

Great video, great list, and I was so happy to see big bad beetleborgs on the list, I watched that as a kid and I still like it, even though it looks so campy and silly now.
I also grew up loving the Big Bad Beetleborgs, especially that opening theme song.
This video is peak childhood for me. Tokusatsu ruled my life from 94-97 and SSSS was the closest thing rivaling Power Rangers for me.
Mine was like beginning 2000's after Power Rangers and such.
I'm really sad to see that Western audiences didn't appreciate Kamen Riders and Metal Heroes shows that were introduce in the US the same way as Power Rangers😭
They were appreciated. They just ran out of footage to use for them.
@@originalShorai They didnt do it right. Started too late. Metal Heroes started with Space Sherriff Gavan (1982) Space Sherriff Sharivan (1983), Space Sheriff Shaidar (1984), Special Megabeast Investigator Juspion (1985), Dimensional Warrior Spielvan (1986 which was used for VR Troopers), Superhuman Machine Metalder (1987, also used for VR Troopers), World Ninja Jiraiya (which wasn't used, but his 20 yrs later guest star footage in Super Sentai was used in Power Rangers as his name was changed to "Sheriff Skyfire"), Robot Police Jiban (1989), Special Rescue Police Winspector (1990), Special Rescue Command Solbrain (1991) Exceeddraft (1992), Special Investigations Robo Janperson (1993 he made a cameo in Beetleborgs later), Blue SWAT (1994), Heavy Shell Beetle-Fighter (1995 used for Big Bad Beetleborgs), Beetle Fighter Kabuto (1996, used for 2nd season of Beetlborgs), Beetle Robo Kabutack (1997: this was aimed at younger children), and Iron Bark Detective Robotack (1998 which was similar to the previous show aimed at children but featured a dog robot detective and was officially the last of the Metal Hero series).
So they totally skipped most of the Showa era (Gavan through to Ninja Jiraiya), which they also could have used extra footage from two Shaidar movies. Not sure if they used movie footage from the Metalder movie for VR Troopers or movie footage from the Heavy Shell Beetle Figher movie for Beetleborgs but those two existed. They also coulda used footage from the Jiban movie (if they had used Jiban), as well as the movies for Janperson and Blue SWAT (if they had used those as well)
Of course technically you could also say Saban 'started late' with Power Rangers as 1992's Zyuuranger was used for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which means Saban purposely skipped over 1975;s Gorenger, 1977's J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai, 1979's Battle Fever J (prob couldnt use that since it was joint owned by Marvel), 1980's Denziman (first show to have a giant transforming robot besides Spider-Man show), 1981's Sun Vulcan, 1982's Goggle V, 1983's Dynaman (which had episodes comically dubbed in the U.S. on USA Network in 1987), 1984's Bio-Man (which WAS supposed to be the first Power Rangers show but the show never got picked up after its pilot episode), 1985's Changeman, 1986's Flashman, 1987's Flashman (which was the first show to have a 5 piece transforming robot), 1988's Liveman (the first show to use an animal motif), 1989's Turboranger, 1990's Fiveman (whiich consisted entirely of family siblings), and lastly, 1991's Jetman (which used the early 70's anime Science Ninja Team Gatchaman as inspiration), but for Power Rangers, Saban still had a lot to choose from with Super Sentai since unlike Metal Hero series which died off in 98', Super Sentai is still ongoing so there's that.
Plus Saban failed with Masked Rider (based off of Kamen Rider Black RX) and since that was the last Kamen Rider show to air in Japan until 2000's Kamen Rider Kuuga, there wasnt much for Saban to use to try again with Kamen Rider and he had enough on his plate with Power Rangers anyway, and anyone else that tried to use Tokusatsu material to compete against Power Rangers in the West were either threatened by Saban to be sued, or just drowned out by Power Rangers popularity anyway.
@@originalShorai Exactly. They could've used other footage from other Space Sheriff's, including Kabutack.
@@budgiecat2885I don’t think Kamen Rider needs an adaption because it already prefect as it, just maybe present it in it’s original form, but marketed it something for young adults due to the different nature of the series compared to Power Rangers.
grid man/super human samurai syber squad had fantastic footage, their battle scenes were really were decorated
Gridman returned and he is on netflix
@@marumarujakuson7980 that's why the ssss prefix before the anime reboot
It's supposed to be an homage to Super-human Samurai Syber-Squad
@@marumarujakuson7980 He's also on RUclips (live action original from the 90's)
And the music…. The face melting music
But the crazy thing is that the robot was a ripoff of ultra man a Japanese super sentai
Masked Rider wasn't jsut a rip off of Power Rangers, it was an actual spin off.
Edonoi, the home planet of Dex is also the planet where Alpha 5, the robot ally of the Power Rangers, was built.
Masked Rider's first appearance was also in Power Rangers at the end of season 2 of Mighty Morphin
It was actually Season 3 instead of Season 2 but otherwise correct.
Also I don’t approve of anyone referring to shows like Beetleborgs, VR Troopers, Masked Rider and Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog as rip-offs since calling something a ripoff basically implies that it was unauthorized or stolen but those were owned by Saban
@@MattZRJSRoxy Saban itself is a ripoff
Masked Rider was a basterdized version of Kamen Rider RX lol. All of that 'ripoff' shit is bullshit. Anything Saban does is an authorized rip off of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider has nothing to do with Super Sentai as it is its own genre.
I agree man none of these shows were rip offs
@@angelpowers7413 Well, Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills could qualify as a rip-off. As they put it it had multiple similarities to season 1 of Power Rangers.
The way he said kamen rider was killing me but still a good look at some old gem's that I grew up with
Why Americans can't pronounce the letter A but constantly insist on using Japanese words like anime and manga is beyond me. I cringe every time I hear "eh-nime" or "maynga" (and we won't even start on how they mispronounce the actual English loan word waifu as "why -foo").
But I'll forgive the inability to pronounce the word kamen (I'll bet he eats "Rayman" noodles for lunch) if someone actually makes a show called Cayman Rider one day.
@@ValosiTiamata I would say they are stubborn idiots or maybe just ignorance but then again Japanese refuse to pronounce foreign words properly either and unlike Japanese, which is not commonly taught as a 2nd language option in American schools, English is taught regularly as a 2nd language in Japanese schools. So its mainly just stubborn nationalism on both ends.
That was painful. What is it with shows like this where they refuse to make sure they are pronouncing words correctly? They go through the research and take the time to collect the footage for the video, yet they just halfass read it without caring whether or not they say it right.
I grew up with the Power Rangers as a kid. I’ve know Super Human Samurai Cybersquad, VR Troopers, Masked Rider, Big Bad Beetleborgs, and the Mystic Knights. The memories lives on.
Kamen Rider Dragon Knight was a Good one hell it was edgier than Power Rangers
Yeah I'm glad I saw this cause that's how I was introduce to Kamen Riders. It was a solid show and a good cast too.
Kamen Rider Dragon Knight was a straight up Americanised version of Kame Rider Ryuki, which was edgier still. They might not have been on screen, but the Japanese source material didn't shy away from having characters getting killed by the creatures. Indeed, several of the "vented" riders were actually killed in the original source series rather than dimensionally displaced.
KRDK wasn't that good actually. No to mention most of the white actors they used looked like. VR Troopers was an edgier version of Power Rangers.
Yep and the episode where Kamen rider Camo appear the fight master was in Punisher War Zone and the voice of Strider Hiryu in UMVC 3 and Mark Dacascos was in KRDK as the advent master
@@TheDarkmaleX"Wasnt that good". It actually got an Emmy.
Muh childhood. Where did the time go? Don't give me feels that are too heavy to feel.
I had all the VR Trooper toys growing up. I still got the book they had with the 3D glasses till this day.
I lost my book but just Have Ryan Steele.
Awesome
An often overlooked gem of the late 80s that would fall under this category was Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. Similar to Mystic Knights, this was a completely original show that gave a team of freedom fighters power suits to face off against evil robots and their leader, Lord Dread (a clear rip on Darth Vader). It's always held a special place in my heart.
I loved watching that show as a kid. Had the toys that could interact with the show.
Well if we're gonna bring up forgotten 80's Western pseudo-Tokusatsu, then I feel it is only fair to mention Photon.
The light still shines!
@@thepayne7862 I when the way of thinking that if you didn't have the toys to interact with the show, the show was meaningless. I guess that's why it only lasted one season.
@@thepeternetwork just read my original comment, I didn't have the toys that interacted with the show. Just mean the tv show itself had toys that interacted with it.
You're not having the toys is probably why the show only lasted one season.
Captain Power was the very 1st Tokusatsu Series in the USA.
I remember watching Super Human Samurai, BeetleBorgs & VR Troopers & Masked Rider along with Power Rangers. I loved my childhood.
I saw those shows too 👍😊❤
I remember "animorphs", it was a series where 5 teenagers turned in to animals by collecting their ADN, the enemies where an alien species that looked like leech that controled humans.
Also the main role was played by Shawn ashmore (Iceman in the original XMEN trilogy and also apeared as a character in the game man of medan).
Um VR Troopers, Beetleborgs and Masked Rider were done by Saban as well
They aren't exactly ripoffs when they are made by the same people who adapted Super Sentai as Power Rangers
Doesn't make a great title though
@@TheEPICFAIL23 true
Masked Rider was actually a spinoff. He first appears in backdoor pilot during season 2 of MMPR.
Nice to see that someone thought the same as I was thinking with the Saban Toku shows shouldn’t be called Power Rangers rip-offs
Being a 80s baby and watching these shows with a high sugary cereal was the best.
Awesome. 90s baby.
Fun fact about Power Rangers/VR Troopers. VR Troopers started out as a single-hero show starring Jason David Frank after he left Power Rangers and the original plan was for the actor playing Ryan Steele in VR Troopers to debut as the new White Ranger but so many fans were clamouring for PR to bring bacc Tommy that they pulled an audible and recast JDF as a returning Tommy and made the other guy the leader of a team of 3 troopers.
Damnnn this brings me back.
I've seen all these shows cept for galidor.
The best ones are obviously
Vr troopers
Syber squad
Beetleborgs
Mystic knights
Kamenrider dragon knight
You forgot Masked Rider
@@supotnabaog and masked rider lol
Besides Mighty Morphin Power Rangets I only remember VR Troopers. Big Bad Beetle Borgs aired every day before Power Rangers Zeo. Mystic Knights was on before Turbo or In Space.
I don't remember ever watching Galidor, but I remember either me or my brother having the toys where you swapped the arms or the lower body around with separate alien pieces. I don't remember wondering where they came from either. You live and you learn.
Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad was more like watching Ultraman.
I see Metalder; instant like
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog is my favorite Tokusatsu, the fantasy elements is why it's my favorite!
Facts
The Ireland Version of Power Rangers
I miss the 90’s. Something about Saturday morning cartoons and tv shows after school that made my childhood what it was.
Same here.
I've seen at least about half of these shows throughout my young life one thing you got to love it about these shows is that they even know that ripoffs they acknowledge the power rangers is popular the fact that they were trying to imitate it prove that they were trying to do at least reach some level of excess even though they all were canceled and didn't meet up to the expectations you got to give them credit for at least trying to compete with it cuz the show didn't have any competition or at least any other show that was at least like at the time it was groundbreaking the fact that it's still around today and that it's getting its own movie universe there's produced by Hasbro is proof of that.
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog and Big Bad Beetleborgs was two of my favorites TV shows when I was young.
I watched "Ultraseven", "Sankoukai" & "Mighty Jack" when I was a kid, but recently like a year ago I got into tokusatsu real heavy and I am being watching material of Power Rangers, Super Sentai, Ultra Series, Kamen Rider and Garo. So, this list is really interesting and informative to me. Thanks a lot for making it. 🎬😎👍
Check out toei's international RUclips channel it had tons of those shows to watch for free with English subtitles and so does shoutfactorytv's website
I was convinced for many years that most of these shows were a fever dream of my childhood imagination.
My goodness, I have seen all these but I had goosebumps and my heartbeat went faster when I saw the clips from "Tattoed Teenage Alien Fighter"! I have memories of this when I was a kid. I already forgot about this show but the pieces and memories came all together, and now I feel sad because I remeber my father and grandpa. They were around when I was a kid watching this after evening news. Thank you Marvelous Videos. I'll treasure this youtube video.
So many memories watching all of these. Hands down some of my fondest memories i have.
Nothing better than waking up early with a bowl of cereal to sat morn shows on Fox41 or any other hour-long tv show blocks.
I think fox had different numbers for different areas
@@doginhat13 Obviously lol
Absolutely
Great video Marvelous Videos, I really enjoyed it!!
Very expansive list. I agree that it is amazing to see Japanese stories adapted well for us here in the United States. The original story changes also often make the shows more memorable but some do work better than others. Ferbus from Masked Rider was a very bad idea for example but the Hillhurst Monsters helped make Beetleborgs more interesting. Every new change is its own little experiment. Thank you for being fairer to Galidor. A lot of people come down on it.
I remember more of big bad beetleborgs, mystic knights of tir na nog, los luchadores, galidor defenders of the outer dimension, and kamen rider dragon knight.
Never heard of the other ones.
I miss the nineties, but I miss these shows even more.
Same here since I was born in 1990.
In the American pilot episode of VR Troopers the original green ranger Jason David Frank is in it
And I believe that the guy playing Ryan Steele from VR was gonna Originally be the White Ranger as well
Yes both are correct. Bradley Hawkins did get his chance to be a Ranger. When the Gold Ranger first appears in Zeo, he provides the voice over.
Kids these days will never know how amazing after school TV shows and Saturday morning cartoons were.
Especially with RUclips, tablets, even video games that made it sway away that stuff, but it hasn't swayed me.
Where the hell you manage find such clear footage of mystic knights of tia na nog?
He forgot Captain Power
Big bad beetle borgs was my show on FoxKids besides power rangers
That was probably the most rational and mature discussion about "Van-Pires" I've seen so far. I can't seem to go anywhere without hearing people say things like "Worst show ever!" I loved it as a kid and I bought the series on DVD because I still have a soft spot for it. Sure, it's really silly and all, but the CGI was impressive for the time and I enjoy all the references to rock 'n roll culture.
So much nostalgia
Enjoyed this. It was right on time.
Although when it comes to VR Troopers, it was originally going to be a show called Cybertron, which would have been Jason David Frank's show, with him wearing Ryan Steele's suit, while Brad Hawkins was going to become the White Ranger for MMPR, but the fans wanted Tommy back so badly, that it lead to a lot of plans being changed. Hawkins was also the voice of the Gold Ranger on Zeo, yet doesn't even become the one to lend his powers to Jason. So chances are, he was denied twice on becoming an official Power Ranger.
Casting is hard.
Oh god I forgot Los Luchadores was a thing! I watched them, Beatle Borgs, and Mystic Knights all the time on Fox Kids back in the day. Some of my favorite memories back in kindergarten-2nd grade was coming home, getting some dunkaroos and a glass of milk, and watching Power Rangers and any other MMPR rip off on TV.
Ditto I was alittle older though.
Numbers 1 (Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad), 2 (VR Troopers), 3 (Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog) and 8 (Big Bad Beetleborgs/Beetleborgs Metallix) are the only ones on this list that I was actually aware of and had seen back in the day.
In hindsight, yes, most of them were trying to cash in the Power Rangers hype-train, but they did leave an impression in their own way.
And truthfully, I'm more than a little pissed that some of these shows aren't available to watch again (I would kill for DVDs of them all), but at the very least, I would do damn near ANYTHING for the actual soundtracks from Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad; some of the best damned music on TV back them. (Power Failure from Do Not Reboot Til Christmas being my all-time favorite)
I remember watching both VR Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs as a kid both shows are campy and silly but I still enjoy them even now :)
Same here
I fully enjoyed re-watching Big Bad Beetleborgs, but it was difficult re-watching VR Troopers because it was painfully obvious that it was made from multiple series. I'm sure I'll try it again in the future.
I'm fine with Power Rangers, ( more of a fan of Super Sentai) but for Kamen Rider? Go to the source!
You can find Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad on DVD from Cookie Jar, a discount DVD company that releases older shows. I got the complete series off of Amazon in 2 volumes. They also released Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills as a Complete Series set.
The actress who plays Maria Valentine in 'Los Luchadores' played Grace Gibbons (Cicada) in a season of 'The Flash'.
She was also Alicia Baker in Seasons 3 and 4 of Smallville
These are not ripoffs there their own entities in the tokusatsu community
Omg thank you for the VR trooper footage, I forgot about the name of the show and Google wasn’t a big help
I was blown away to find out Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills was actually a thing. I honestly thought that was something entirely made up by TFS in DBZA.
Can't wait!!!
awesome countdown, this really takes me back to the SABAN days of kids tv shows.
Thank you... Thank you... when I saw this video title, I was hoping you all would bring up van-pires! So random but boy did I enjoy watching this back in the day!!
Great video!
I never understood what kind of shows were those until I became an adult and got into anime. They revolutionized my childhood and I still love them today.
Same concept on me in my childhood times.
I wish the white beetleborg was in more episodes. The crossover of power rangers and masked rider i loved so much
Me too
I believe Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight was the ONLY one on the list to get a daytime emmy for it's stunts and fight scenes.
Wished they did more of them in America loved this show
@@ShadowSlayerSD5 no. Please no, leave Kamen Rider alone.
@@TribalxStoney I wouldn't want American versions now they way they do things I meant years back when Dragon Knight was around
@@TribalxStoney sorry to burst your bubbles but japan actually liked Dragon Knight a Lot! than Kamen Rider :Ryuki to the point that the entire cast of the Ryuki came back to dub for their american counter parts and was even given a sequel via Light novels. and an epic opening song. and as an added bonus one of the actors for Dragon Knight actually wanted to appear in an Episode of Zi-o since it's still part of the Kamen Rider Multiverse.
@@ashwolf2006 you can say it was good...but dragon knight was a tarnish to the Kamen Rider name. Yes I know WAY back in the day we got an American version of Black RX but all that didn't last long either.
Kamen Riders, VR Troopers and Bettleborgs where sick af growing up!
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog definitely earns points from me for being more of its own thing. I remember trying to collect all the happy meal toys for it as a kid but I think I only ended up with the one blue knight lol
fantastic video
Super human samurai cyber squad was telecasted on DD metro or Dd2 on weekdays afternoon in India during the late 90s,I watched that show after coming from school
Though you did mention it with masked rider, you should have also mentioned that vr troopers, mystic Knights, and beetle borgs were all created by suban as well. This means that those shows were not just ranger ripoffs, but spin off series.
Mystic Knights did have a second season in the works, but with the massive boost in popularity after the ending of In Space Power Rangers Lost Galaxy would end up taking its place and the Post Zordon era of the show would begin. Kind of sad considering Mystic Knights had just added a fifth team member.
Edit: as for Dragon Knight focusing on fight scenes, well that has to do with the source material. In Kamen Rider Ryuki the entire plot centered around a battle royale between the different Riders, one of the reasons why it has one of the largest groups of Riders in the entire series. Last man standing gets any one wish granted.
I'm surprised "Ultraman" didn't make the cut. Also, Los Luchadores felt less like Power Rangers and more like a slightly modernized rendition of Adam West's Batman in terms of campiness and colorful atmosphere. And Sarah Carter who played Maria Valentine would later go on to play Helena in the 2006 Dead or Alive movie.
Fun Fact :
VR Troopers is the adaptation of two Metal Heroes, which is Metalder and Spielban.
Out of all these shows I think VR Troopers, Beetleborgs, Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog, and Kamen rider Dragon Knight were the best.
Wish they were still around and getting updated.
got into a fight with one of my friends because he wouldn't stop making fun of my vr troopers backpack. Kept calling them vr poopers.

Someday I wanna make shows like this in my own way.
Fun Fact: Jason David Franks (MMPR Tommy) was originally cast as Ryan Steel on VR Troopers. I think it was after he was already on Power Rangers and he had to leave due to no more Green Ranger.
Ha. Could you imagine Saban trying to write that all together in a giant shared universe?
@@ScooterinAB if I remember correctly, Saban was originally supposed to put both shows in the same universe. The actor who played Ryan Steele, Brad Hawkins, was supposed to be the White Ranger before they brought Tommy back into Power Rangers. But since that didn't happen, Brad ended up voicing the Gold Zeo Ranger when his identity was still unknown to everyone.
They were originally going to call it Cybertron and Franks would be going solo. You can find the original promo video online. If you can get past the Transformers footage of course. :)
Question? Need help remembering! Reading show. Late 80s early 90s. Boy, bicycle, glitter gloves, rides into painting... to work on phonics???
Out of all those shows VR Troopers should have crossed over into the Power Ranger world just like the Power Rangers crossed over into the Ninja Turtles and vice versa
The comment section is sure going to be fun
We really need more kamen rider adaptations in the USA
Superhuman Samurai and VR Troopers were my favorites.

mask rider was dope especially once he got the armor up grade use to watch it with my brother on Saturdays and i think he actually teams up with the power rangers one time
VR troopers was epic same goes for beetle Borg's ! Omg mystic knights, nostalgia, I had mega crush in Deirdre 😂 also masked rider haha my childhood
Beetleborgs, Mystic Knights, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, and Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad I watch back then, TTAFFBH was something I thought TFS made up but to find out sometimes bloody knows how many years that it was an actual TV series, Masked Rider I can't remember how I came across from it either looking up on the Power Rangers wikia or watch the beginning of MMPR Season 3, VR Troopers I only saw previews of it on MMPR VHS, Galidor the thing I remember it was the toy of the robot or whatever the villain I believe was, Van-pires I never heard of it when someone comment about it on a video I was watching (TTAFFBH theme song I believe that I was watching), and Los Luchadores...... Yeah that's the only one I never heard or came across it
Another Live action series similar, was not teens transforming to costumed super heroes, but transforming to animals to battle an alien parasite invasion. I'm talking about the live action adaptation of The Animorphs, based by Applegate's book series, toys sold by hasbro along beast wars and aired in Nickelodeon. Since it was based on a popular book series, and had to be changed alot to air for children it fell flat.
I remember them all and I missed them.
Beetle Borgs was fire, I know ppl hated power rangers but loved beetleborgs
I remember super human samurai because on old transformers G1 tape I was gave with a lot of taped episodes on had episodes of super human samurai on it right before transformers and I remember vr troopers from previews on power ranger tapes I had. Always wanted to watch more of both but was never able.
To me the PowerRangers took a lot of the kitschy Japanese stuff from the 60s when I grew up and made a TV show with teens instead of a central hero and maybe a sidekick.
i feel like tatooed teenager alien fighters was just made as a troll to power rangers lol
I used to love beetleborgs more than I can admit
Mystic knights sounds so familiar but have never known it existed till now.

That was such a great, understated dialogue. It gets overshadowed by all the other over the top hilarious antics, but it's just such a great slice of nerd culture just casually slipped in under the radar.
What people don’t realize is that the first season of power rangers like the very first season that aired here in the states was actually like the 30th season of super sentai in Japan. Crazy
I like the japanese version of kamen rider dragon knight coz it had more of a mature storyline and some of the riders have their own storylines that added flavor. The other riders have their own motives and what makes the japanese version unique is that it does not portray the black and white ..all good all evil story, there was gray area as the story progresses.
That's what I liked about Super Sentai Zyuranger, its story was way darker than it's counterpart Mighty Morphing Power Rangers.

Masked Rider was technically in the same universe as Power Rangers, as he appeared in a few episodes near the end of season 2 of MMPR.
VR Troopers and Beetleborgs had crossovers with the Power Rangers. So did the Ninja Turtles.
No there was never a crossover with Power Rangers. The producers only used the Beetleborg suits as the Machine Empire. And Sarah Brown guest starred in Power Rangers Zeo as a different character. Not Kaitlin.
I liked Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad and VR Troopers.. back in the day. Ah.. good times :)
I watch most of these shows as a kid.
Not all of these shows are as lost as you think
1) The original Japanese version of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, *Gridman* had a recent anime adaptation (two, in fact).
2) Two of the shows VR Troopers was adapted from, Uchū Keiji Shaider and Uchū Keiji Gavan, are part of a trilogy, set in the same universe as Super Sentai, the ongoing series from which Power Rangers was adapted.
6 & 10) Masked Rider and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight might be over, but the stories of the successors to their originals, Kamen Riders Black RX, ZO (pronounced Zett-Oh; to differentiate from the Kamen Rider whose show began in 2018, Zi-O) J and Ryuki still continue to this day.
8) Beetleborgs/B-Fighters…Blue Beet and B-Fighter Kabuto (The Blue Stinger Beetleborg and the Gold Chromium Beetleborg were two different people in the Japanese version) were inducted into what is known as the Space Squad by Geki Jumongi/Uchū Keiji Gavan II.
9) Personal note: you have to admit, that Glinching thing was pretty interesting.
Loved superhuman samurai syber squad
TTAF was so good. Mystic Knights was good. I sadly never got to see VR Troopers.
kamen rider dragon knight was actaully my first exposure to kamen rider, and no i didnt see masked rider until the internet was made aware to me, but it wasn't until i found kamen rider decade online that i became a fan of the entire tokusatsu genre, good or bad, ive been a fan of this stuff ever since i was six and saw power rangers lightspeed rescue (even further since i had vague memories of watching MMPR the movie when i was very little) now and forever, i honor the henshin heroes
I had seen pretty much every show on this list when I was younger. The only exception was TTAFFBH, which I had not heard of until TFS made a joke at their expense and I watched the first episode just to see what it was about.
Kamen Rider Dragon Knight was one of my favorites. I had watched it after I sort of phased out of Power Rangers.
"Power Rangers" was a compilation of the Super Science teams. The action from the japanese shows, the pablum added by Saban, hiring american actors that were close in size to the japanese actors to read the inane scripts. Metalder, Ultraman, Hachiman ( 8th Man). many from the 60's and 70's. Best enjoyed by turning off logical brain, turning on childs brain and just enjoying the ride. Cheers
'Sentai' means 'Task Force', not 'Science'.
"...hiring american actors that were close in size to the japanese actors..." And yet still cast a woman to play an obviously male character. I mean, once you see Boi's package, you can't unsee it.
