- From rare Michael Wood's documentary "Darshan - An Indian journey"(1989). This is fragment about a Chidambaram temple (Thillai Natarajar) and its priests - the Dikshitars.
It was Michael Wood's first trip into India.
i just love watching this clip again and again and every few weeks !
so do I
And me too
So nice to see videos oldest one I liked it
The first migration of brahmins included Dikshitar, Nambudiri, and original Soliyar Brahmins who wore front kudumi / purvasikha. This is attested in Sangam literature (early centuries BC - early centuries AD) , which describes brahmins wearing front kudumi. Some of the early Alvar were Soliyar Brahmins. Nambudiri brahmins still practice srauta rituals. Very cool
Wow ..... My home town temple 😍😍😍😍
Wow.. in this video while they speak, mentioning 20 yrs from 1968..which is year 1988... See the surroundings of temple that time.. full of trees... But right now full of buildings...

He didn't say it was a Christian symbol or that it was from Christianity, he said it was like the Christian symbol. He was making a comparison for people so they could understand the similarities.

I cannot believe that it was our ancestors that built such grand temple complexes and lead such refined life which of course had its extremes.
India today is an anarchy. It's sheer chaos and mess. Architecture is in shambles, the order in society is broken. There is harshness in speech, there is frustration in behavior, there is no sense of beauty!
Cannot believe the grand visionaries of this land who built this temple ever imagined that society would forget the Principles of Beauty and Divinity that seers saw in Orderliness of society.
Just looking at our cities, it's uninspiring, soul crushing madness
Effect of Kaliyuga
chidambaram ........om namashivaya
The commenter wrongly pronounced about the symbol.he mentioned about christian symbol actually is not an orginally christian symbol, origin it's from hinduism.
Maha Rajan as if u know...: D this is what tamilians prob..can't understand the point but bluntly commenting n praising ourselves as if v were the first most community evolved in d entire world.like Hinduism there r many religions wch carry same value systems hence similar representation..nobody can trace out d origin..grow up u ppl ...
@@jeni2411 there is only Hinduism or Buddhism left from the ancient world, rest all were gobbled up by Christianity and Islam.
@@infinite5795 no way ..hinduism itself grabbed the indegenous culture of indus....probably tamil is the ancient culture n being devotee to ancestral faith n rituals were old..the rest are all influenced n devastated including hinduism.....
Siva Siva
Brahmins have the toughest life
Michael Wood's documentaries are known to be biased.
The very word deekshat never belonged to tamils...our temple priest are our own people...one day will come untill the last Tamil will make you pay what you are looting..
In tamil litarature only thillai Val andanar is mentioned. No dikshitars. They are fake Tamils.

@@Shiva-xw3jr you are hanging on tanglish word. Point is it is andanar and not dikshitars. No ancient tamil text me tion word dikshitars. They are vanderi
@@somaskhan deekshitar is a Sanskrit equivalent of andhanar. Andhanar literally means brahmin. So if you're agreeing that andhanar has been mentioned in tamizh literature, you are indeed agreeing that Brahmins have been a part of the ancient thamizh society and we're very much revered. Appreciate the acknowledgement
