Eh, you can play an infinitely long song on just a few tracks as long as you never need more than that many instruments playing at any one moment. The problem here is sometimes you need more than 8 at once.
In FF7, 16 tracks are used for most songs.In the main theme, up to 14 tracks are key-on at the same time. The number of tracks is not enough.
