Sir, thank you deeply for your information. Please don’t stop... your helping so many men. Just diagnosed with prostate cancer. Psa 3.8 , Gleason 4+3, . Scared as hell. My father and friend died of this 25 years ago. God Bless Sir. Thanks for your giving of information 🙏
I cannot thank you enough for sharing your prostatectomy experience here on RUclips. I had my radical prostatectomy this past April 14th and your information was so helpful to me for comfort and what to expect. Continued health to you!
Thank you for your video log! I’m 48 yrs old and 19 days post robotic radical prostatectomy and I stumbled across your videos a few days ago. I really appreciate your authentic transparent account of your experience. Although my initial biopsy results are highly favorable I’m grieving the temporary and unknown duration of the function loss struggles that you describe. Your content and hopeful attitude and demeanor is lifting me up and giving me hope. I want to thank you for that. I pray for your continued recovery as well. God Bless-

Russ, thank you for posting , my surgery is July 17, I am 59 years old, I just found due to my psa being at 8 , then I realize a biopsy and they found 5 out of then with positive cancer Gleason score 6. Dr recomend prostatectomy, I don’t feel anything bad, very scared to do the surgery, is great to hear your experience, make me feel more comfortable, I’m doing it with Dr Robert Carey in Sarasota, florida.

I've listened to all your updates and with the radical robot-assisted Prostatectomy planned for 3 weeks' time, you've greatly encouraged me; your information has been of huge help. I'm a Christian in the UK and whilst I'm not concerned about anything, the fact it's now only 3 weeks away focuses my mind. Today, my wife has ordered enough pants, pads, etc. for the first few weeks and it's been very helpful to see, as a fit man, how long you've used the pants. I'm on a 12-month PROTEUS trial so 1 June, my surgery date, is halfway through the trial. Bless you, for taking the time to post items over 12 months. Steve

Thank You so much for keeping us updated. Here are two interesting approaches to consider for your next year of recovery. Breath through your nose as much as possible. Many people are considered mouth breathers, and I am one. Nose breathing helps your body put more Nitrous Oxide in your blood. This improves your blood flow. See the book “Breath” by James Nester. The other consideration is to improve your immune system with deep mental relaxation with an intention. See the books “You Are The Placebo” by Dr Jo Dispenza and “Mind over Medicine” by Dr. Lissa Rankin. 😉
Thank-you for your very honest and open comments. I'm coming up on 4 months post surgery. First psa was undetectable. Psa will be tested every 6 months. My continence is about the same as yours. My ED, however is total even with V. My doc says severe ED for at 6-18 months. I lost 50% of nerves.
You are Sooo Strong! Even if you don't believe it, I'm a woman, researching for a male FRIEND. Thank you! For sharing this information!! Hi I’m joe Haynes and are having the same thing done on the 17th of next month. Your videos has really been good to listen to. I’m 48 yo and are a little worried about it.
Hi Joe, just keep in mind the healing process is slow, the first month can be discouraging but then the healing comes! Keep doing your Kegel exercises to prepare yourself. All the best to you, Blessings!
Thank you so much for you videos and words of encouragement. I was diagnose with the family curse a few months back. I have the operation schedule in July. I'm scared out of my wits end, mainly because of the unknown. But congrats on the one year mark and much more success for the coming years. Thank you again for your videos!
Thomas - start doing you Kegel exercises now if you haven't already begun. Important to get them going before the surgery, helps with rehab. Keep those thoughts positive, praying for a great result and complete healing! Blessings!
Thomas Miller, you got this! Attitude will get you through it. I convinced myself the surgery and catheter were just inconveniences I had to put up with for a short while and it helped immensely. You will get better, Russ is proof of that. Good luck!
Thomas M. -- I understand your being fearful of your upcoming surgery. I too was extremely apprehensive, but got through it just fine. I had my daVinci surgery on June 18th, so I'm now 3 1/2 weeks post-op. My experience closely mirrors Russ' experience. The toughest parts of the journey are the first few days after surgery (lower abdomen is really sore), and then the urinary leakage after catheter removal. My cath came out 2 wks ago and the first 5-6 days of significant leakage were pretty tough. I'm now 2 wks post-cath removal and I can detect small incremental progress...great patience is required. As Russ said, doing Kegels diligently is REALLY important, both prior to and after surgery. Stay positive...you'll get through this … and most importantly, you'll be cancer free!
I would like to thank you for your videos, it helped me to mentally prepare for the procedure. I am now in my third week of recovery and feeling better each day. This has I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience through the Prostectomy. It helped me to mentally prepare for my surgery. I am in my third week of recovery and feeling a little better with each day.
I watched all your videos up to this one and I applaud you for doing them. I recently had the surgery, but I think mine must have been a little different as they used the robot like with you but they went into my prostate and basically gutted it but left the prostate itself intact. Like you the first two days was brutal. My surgery was about 8 weeks ago and I've never had any problems with not being able to hold my urine, but I have started to notice in the past couple weeks that it feels like I have to go and sometimes I better get to the bathroom quick. I told the nurse over the phone the other day that I was feeling like there was something stuck in there as I have never gotten over the feeling of needing to go to the bathroom. Sometimes when my bladder is full I will go in and use the bathroom and everything is fine, but as I get to the end I can feel like some discomfort. I keep hoping this will all go away pretty soon. I had some ED problems before the surgery and I've not noticed any of that getting any better, but I have never tried the Viagra or anything like that. Anyone out there have the same surgery that I did that can give me some info? Thanks so much Dan
Really happy to hear that you have/are progressing so well. I am one week post RALRP and hoping that I can speak as positively as you do about recovery. Thanks for the guidance and encouraging reports,
I also appreciated your videos as my husband went through this in April. Thank you for the product recommendations-that info came in very handy to us. My husband is doing well, still wears the briefs but is better than it was. Look forward to wearing just the thin shields. Thanks for these videos, the best I have found. Best wishes.
I have followed this blog with interest (and some concern) since being diagnosed with Gleason 3+4 in April. I am in the UK where most healthcare is delivered by the National Health Service (NHS), free at the point of need. I was told that whilst treatment was recommended it wasn't super urgent and I should take the holidays we had booked in May and June and then get sorted. Evidence shows that the best results are achieved by high volume surgeons using the Da Vinci robot system. To this end treatment is delivered in designated "centres of excellence". My research showed that some UK surgeons practice the "Retzius Sparing" technique where basically they approach the prostate from below, still accessing via the abdomen, and this avoids the areas that largely control continence, resulting in 90% of patients being fully continent within a month. I was able to have my surgery performed by Prof Christopher Eden two and half weeks ago and a week after having my catheter removed I am already leak free, and at no time had more than a leak of a few mls (which seemed to be whilst standing still after walking a couple of km or so)! Another benefit is that you are fitted with a supra-pubic catheter for just 8 days (rather than a uretheral catheter), which I suspect is much more comfortable! So, do your resarch, and find a surgeon who practices the Retzius Sparing technique, doing at least 100 cases per annum! For you guys in the US check this link: www.medstargeorgetown.org/2019/04/12/continence-confidence-prostatectomy-patients-reporting-startling-success-after-robotic-retzius-sparing-surgery/
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 God bless you and even though this video is four years old I’m praying you’re still doing well. I’ll be facing surgery soon for radiation and all those side effects from the meds would drive me crazy. At 68 I’m not looking forward to this but if I want to live I have to stay in prayer to get through this newer chapter in my life.
Thank you for your comments. I am 16 months post surgery and still dealing with incontinence to a degree , as far as sexual function it is definitely an issue for me. Mentally I still feel I have a ways to go.
I had enlarged prostate a few years ago so my Urologist performed a TURP procedure ( Transurethral Resection of Prostate) . This basically hollows out the prostate to help you pee. But as I found out recently it also creates scar tissue on the outside of prostate. So when having a radical prostatectomy the surgeon is not able to save as many erection nerves. So one week after removing my catheter I have almost constant leakage when standing up, but none while sitting or laying down. I read it seems like DRUMMERUSS stopped leaking a lot about the 4 week mark. Hope I have the same luck. People with previous TURP procedures can consider radiation therapy instead of RP. But radiation kills the erection nerves also but it takes about year or two before the tissue all dies.
I know about that "meeting" crap, especially if you're in management. They expect you to suck it up and tough it out during their bullshit. I went management for a few years and when I finally got tired of the anal-kiss crap I got a union job and was treated like a human being instead of a pawn. All the best to you brave man.
Thanks very much for your updates. Know that they are helping a lot of us. I'm at 7 months, doing Kegels but have to work at not leaking. My question: Side effects of Viagra. First time I used Sildenafil, blood rushing to penis very uncomfortable.
I’m almost at the two-year mark, and I’m very active, I can do everything that I could do prior to my prostatectomy. Even at the one-year mark I was back to running, lifting weights, playing touch football and just about anything I wanted to do with regard to sports.
Were you still doing kegals at a year? Now? Is there a stopping point for them. I have quit at about 6 months out. I am 72 but have a very strenuous job as full time self employed arborist. Couldn't find time so just quit. I seem to be getting worse but maybe because I have been drinking a lot of tea and coffee...diuretics.? Lots of water and gatorade to replace fluids in the heat. Is control of this necessary? Thanks
I stopped them at about 1 year. Started to do planking and lower abdomen exercises 4x per week and continue to this day and I am convinced that worked wonders. I am 100% continent now.
I’m pleased to hear you are doing so well. I am in UK. My prostate is being removed on the 19th. It’s taken a while to decide this is for the best and I’m nervous about incontinence and catheter maintenance but your videos have reassured me a lot. Thank you, and all the best.
All the best to you Gary. I am glad my journey has helped to ease your concerns somewhat. Take it slow early on and remember that progress can be slow at first. In time you will heal. Blessings!

Hi Joe, just keep in mind the healing process is slow, the first month can be discouraging but then the healing comes! Keep doing your Kegel exercises to prepare yourself. All the best to you, Blessings!
Yes thank you for your updates. You the man !
God bless you brother and thanks for sharing.
I would like to thank you for your videos, it helped me to mentally prepare for the procedure. I am now in my third week of recovery and feeling better each day. This has
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience through the Prostectomy. It helped me to mentally prepare for my surgery. I am in my third week of recovery and feeling a little better with each day.
So glad to hear that Aaron, blessings upon you for complete healing!
Glad to hear your doing well..im 53 and had prostate issues since I was 40 prostatitis on and off..overall doing ok...again, all the best to you
I watched all your videos up to this one and I applaud you for doing them.
Thanks so much
Dan
❤thank you for sharing. It helps so much.
Thank You Lori, I pray for an excellent result during the healing process for your husband....Blessings!
Thanks for the update. Appreciate your candor.
This is great news! I am sure my Dr. did not use this method, thanks! I will share the link on my next video.
nice guy your films have helped me getting through big up
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 God bless you and even though this video is four years old I’m praying you’re still doing well. I’ll be facing surgery soon for radiation and all those side effects from the meds would drive me crazy. At 68 I’m not looking forward to this but if I want to live I have to stay in prayer to get through this newer chapter in my life.
Blessings friend.
Thank you for your comments. I am 16 months post surgery and still dealing with incontinence to a degree , as far as sexual function it is definitely an issue for me. Mentally I still feel I have a ways to go.
At what point did you stop using the clamp please? Would you still consider using it in these type situation?
Thanks for the update. I’m post 3 months + few weeks.
All the best John!
Thank You so much for your this very helpful. I have my surgery in 2 weeks, just asking did you have to do the Hormone shot prior to surgery..
No, that was never discussed or recommended by my Dr. I pray your surgery is a complete success and healing 100%, Blessings!
drummeruss Thank you sir
I know about that "meeting" crap, especially if you're in management. They expect you to suck it up and tough it out during their bullshit. I went management for a few years and when I finally got tired of the anal-kiss crap I got a union job and was treated like a human being instead of a pawn. All the best to you brave man.
same boat as you. 2 weeks post recovery, full procedure as yours.
how are things two years in?
Thanks very much for your updates. Know that they are helping a lot of us. I'm at 7 months, doing Kegels but have to work at not leaking. My question: Side effects of Viagra. First time I used Sildenafil, blood rushing to penis very uncomfortable.
Same with me, I took 60 mgs, now I take 20 mgs and no uncomfortable feeling. Many times I don't even need the pill. Try a smaller dose.
Hows..activites like tennis..bike riding..swimming..any issues ?
@@drummeruss thanks Russ. I hope I get there.
what lower ab exercises?
@@treemands I use a weight bench, crunches and leg lifts. Mostly I have an app with a planking program that really does a job on the lower abdoman.
@@drummeruss thanks
Were you wearing Depends during the 3-hour meeting?
I’m pleased to hear you are doing so well. I am in UK. My prostate is being removed on the 19th. It’s taken a while to decide this is for the best and I’m nervous about incontinence and catheter maintenance but your videos have reassured me a lot. Thank you, and all the best.
All the best to you Gary. I am glad my journey has helped to ease your concerns somewhat. Take it slow early on and remember that progress can be slow at first. In time you will heal. Blessings!
drummeruss Thank you for your good wishes, I’ll let you know how things go.
Regards, Gary.

For those in a pre prostrate op stage .watch my 6 min video Johnny Harrison
If you drink alot of water its not unusual to urinate once a hour. Good or bad prostate.
Thank you 1:10
Anyone have a problem with climacturia ?
I did not have that problem.
Was your tumor close to the nerves? And thank you for the updates
No, it did not penetrate the margins, so no problem with getting them off the prostate.
