    If you've thought about it, someone else is already ON IT. - is just a life lesson fact we have to accept.
    Back when i was in elementary in the mid 90s, i was having a conversation with a friend where we wished we had some kind of small screen in front of us, then play games on that screen via touching and tapping the screen. So we could play it anywhere. Including under the table while classes were going on.
    At that time, we thought that was just magic and will never happen in real life. Seriously. lol.
    But don't be disheartened by the life lesson fact. What matters more is execution and expression, making your own version. Doesn't matter who made it first.
    The value of questioning "who made it better?" though is still something i'm struggling with in my current level of wisdom.

      That's awesome! Definitely wild how ideas are just kinda out there, in the minds of so many people. Even if others are already working on them, I do think we'll be proud of ourselves if we finally buckle down and do the things we're dreaming of.

    Good advices. Patience is something that people seems to lack these days. There are so many people that still think that any kind of digital art is fast an easy that sometimes it looks hard to make people understand you have to put the time and the effort to have the results. Love the video, thank you!😃

      So true. It doesn't help now that AI is taking over everything now and people really can just type some words to generate an image. Usually that image is riddled with flaws, but it's passable enough to get a like from somebody scrolling by, or to make an easy sell on Etsy from someone who's not paying much attention. But that's a rant for another day.

    Really been enjoying your videos! I appreciate your unique perspective of having a lot of experience with pixel art but also being in a period of re-learning. I feel confidently beyond the newbie phase of pixel art but am definitely still exploring, making mistakes, learning. As someone in that position, I value hearing both your experience making art and all the realizations you've had since restarting.
    The tip that spoke to me the most was the one about color usage. I love the look of limited palettes and always strive for that, but I often end up adding colors to suit my needs. I feel guilty when I do this--which is so silly to say, but it's true! I feel as though "a better pixel artist would figure out a way to work with what they have." But you're 100% right, there are no rules. I enjoy myself more when I use a bigger palette, so that's what I should do. Thanks!

      Thank you for the kind words! Pixel art is definitely unique in that it has very defined, specific rules and techniques...which are all made up!
      I actually struggled hard with that in my Kong dressed as a Mega Man character sprite (in the Mistakes video). I ended up bumping up the color count to 18, which is of course too many for a 16 bit character. I felt a little bad about that, but no one noticed or cared.
      Realistically no one else is going to count the colors in a color palette. So unless we're in a specific art challenge with specific rules, we have really gotta learn to cut ourselves some slack! 🤣

    I thought drawing pixel art is fast as hand drawing
    Now i feel more confident
    Thanks

    • @RobinsonPixels
      @RobinsonPixels  3 месяца назад +1

      No prob! One thing pixel art does have over hand drawing is that you can at least copy and paste elements for use in multiple frames of animation. For example, you could get away with using the same head in running or jumping sprites, while a traditional artist would definitely have to redraw it

    Dang! Stitch and Haku from Spirited Away in one video? It’s like you were trying to summon me!
    One thing I’m legitimately impressed by in every video is the sheer VARIETY of pixel art that you grace us with. There’s so much! So many styles. So many lessons learned.
    Thanks for putting yourself out there. It’s amazing.

    Jazz JackRabbit fanart AND Sly Cooper game ideas? I'm feeling spoiled here, as a fan of both of them.
    And now that I see Jazz I'm kinda curious about a video comparing like, sprites from PC games back in the days of the 4th console generation- if there were stark differences in spriting styles and so on based on those drastically different hardwares between PC's and consoles, or if that's maybe a bit outside the scope of what you want to make.

      That's a good thought, I just added it into my Idea Bank. Someone else had a similar idea with comparing modern pixel art to retro pixel art, but this is a little different because we'd be exploring different hardware limitations within the same time frame. So it would all be "retro," but a deeper exploration of what retro really even means.
      Neat!

    Slightly off topic, but is there a place in particular you go to buy all the cool figures in the background? I need to get some for myself...

    • @RobinsonPixels
      @RobinsonPixels  3 месяца назад +2

      Lol I've gotten them from pretty much everywhere over the years. The Sly Cooper statue (raccoon behind Mario) I got from the Sucker Punch website when Sly 3 came out like 20 years ago.
      I'd say your best bet for cool figures is either eBay (which I did use for several of these) or your local comic shop. Also Books a Million for some reason, but I always try to buy a book from there too to keep the book industry alive haha

      That's something I need to do some research on, because it'd be nice if I had something for my phone while I'm out.
      I know Divoom has an app that goes with their neat little monitor/speaker things. Pixel Studio looks like it's got the most downloads and highest rating in the Play Store, so I think I'll try it out
