The GME XRS Connect 4WD Pack - XRS-370C4P with a AE4704B Radome Antenna Black 580 mm popped up when I googled best UHF radio but I'm not sure if that is the best one for my situation. Cheers
Hi Steve, the 4WD pack is great and our most popular XRS pack. If you want to know more about the different XRS value packs check out this video ruclips.net/video/2CchCJXT5AE/видео.html And if you are still unsure, find your nearest dealer and have a chat with them. You can find a dealer here www.gme.net.au/au/find-a-dealer
just watched this video great stuff, my question is can you joint 2 different gain ariels to the radio using a T joiner, i have a 2.1 and a 6.1 i think hoping to have the best of short and long distance all at once
Hi mate, You can but we do not offer a product to allow this as this will add another point of loss into the system and can impact performance. To ensure the best performance of your UHF radio we recommend the use of the interchangeable whip system instead of adding a third party splitter.
Hi very informative indeed. Thanks. The question I have is when using Repeater stations in Duplex mode on my UHF 40 channel radio is what station to be on to TX and RX. I have channel list and I know 1 to 8 in Duplex but not 5 is the reciever from Repeater and transmission is on the list in the higher end of list. I have a list of repeater towers and their locations in Victoria. My question is what channel do you put your radio on and in Duplex mode and what channel does the other vehicle's 40 channel UHF radio need to be on in Duplex mode to have car to car comms via the repeater. The signal goes to the repeater on one channel and from repeater out another channel. Just confused how to use it for car to car whilst the two vehicles are driving around the area covered by the repeater tower. For example driving around Kevington and Jamieson in Victorian High Country and wanting to use repeater ontop of Mt. Terrible in Victoria.
I have a gme tx3520 uhf and would probable like the 4705 heavy duty aerial as shown in clip with the more rounded signal for mountaineer areas which areal would you suggest. My current gme has the cable pulled out showing a processed coax stile cable is this reparable or am I up for a new one. Thanks in advance Tomo
Thanks for a great informative video. Just wondering now if it's possible to have 2 antennas on your vehicle, say a large antenna on the bullbar with a high dB and small antenna with low dB mounted at the rear, say on the roof racks or on the kaymar wheel carrier. Trying to cover both scenarios if that's at all possible . A penny for your thoughts.
Hi Luke, thanks for the feedback and query. Yes, it is possible to have 2 antennas mounted to the vehicle and connected to the one UHF radio. To do so you would need to install an aftermarket splitter/switch to allow you to switch between them. Please note that we do not recommend this as by doing so another point of loss will be added to the system which may impact performance, to prevent this we instead recommend the use of an interchangeable whip system like the AE4700 series
Great video. I have a TX6160 hard wired into my 4wd so that when I am onsite I can take the unit out with me and use as a portable UHF using the portable screw in antennae. On my bullbar I have the AE 4705 6.6dbi antennae on my bullbar which I use on the highway. I also have a standard 3dbi rubber aerial. Can I use that 3dbi rubber aerial on the bullbar for areas such as the Vic High Country or does it need to be on the roof rack? Thanks in advance, Mick.
I have a GME spring base, but have snapped off the whip. How do I know what thread size whip to buy? How is this thread size identified in the model numbers? Thanks
Hi Guys - very helpful, thank you! I have a 5w GME fixed CB 80 channel in a boat on the Murray River - flat, obviously - but the terrain isn't. I really only want to communicate with other boats, but they may be around the bend (the boat, not the crew). What would be best for my situation? Thanks. Alan - Adelaide. [Another nice thing would be able to drive an ordinary AM/FM/DAB+ radio - via a splitter, presumably]. Ta
Hi there, if you are trying to communicate with other vessels the radio would need to be a VHF radio. If you are using a VHF we would recommend mounting the antennas as high as possible to ensure the best transmission distance in those areas.
I recently installed an AE5003 on-glass antenna and it seems to be working pretty well but would love to get some more technical advice on how this and the AE5004 can be used in modern aerodynamic cars. Can they be rotated 90 degrees? What does the beam batter actually look like? What is going to work best in a convoy. Tried reaching out to the technical support email but never got any response (which was pretty disappointing to be honest) but purchased the GME gear anyway.
Hi Richard, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! For the best performance we recommend installing upright and not rotated at 90 degrees. For best in convoy we would suggest the lower dbi options. However for more technical info it would be worth having a chat to the tech support team on 1300463463.
Hi Kevin, this antenna would is a UHF antenna, for car stereo antennas we would recommend checking out our AM/FM antennas such as the AEM7 on our website for this purpose.
Hello, great video ! I’m in need of a FM antenna upgrade. Would 100mm spacing between, aem4705 and ae4705 be ok ? As one is a FM antenna and the other UHF. Thanks
@@catatropic233 for them to work properly they would need to be mounted upright, however they could be mounted on a MB042B fold down bracket to lower them when not in use.
I have an Amarok with a tub with a Smartcap steel canopy on it . I was thinking of getting a CB and mounting an antenna (probably 2.1 ) for around town and occasional rural use. I don't have or want a bullbar so was thinking of fixing the antenna in the gap between the canopy and the rear of the cab (up high just below roof height) . Does this sound a reasonable spot to mount it ?
Picking up the XRS CONNECT UHF XRS-370c Would like a recommendation on a short range antenna. Distance would be 60 to 100 Metres Must go through venue/building. Antenna to be mounted temporarily on top of OB Truck then put away so need a magnet style holder if possible please
so , just watched your video. at 2.29 you show and talk about the AE4005 antenna as being ground dependent , HOWEVER your web site states that it is a ground independent antenna. so what is it ???????????
Gday i am wanting to get better am fm reception because my standard antenna is crap i have the GME 4705B best thing since sliced cheese i say hooked up to a TX3500. So was hoping for one the same size or close what would you recommend cheers in advanced by the way i have a couple of mates envious of my 4750B lol i love how tuff they look on the bullbar and the fact how versatile GME make there products just makes it a trust worthy brand to have AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE.
I have a CX3100 starter kit. Is the antenna supplied with this kit a ground independent type. From your video I feel it is but I just wish to confirm. Thanks!!
Good presentation. Can you give any info re aerials for small handheld scanner (receiver), Icom IC -R10. Came with a short ?rubber ducky. 0.5 to 1.2GHz, FM, WFM, AM, USB, LSB, CW. I'm interested in exploring its possibilities. At home use for the present. Thank you.
I have a new Windscreen antenna of which I know nothing about (for argument sake the dbi). I am about to become a grey nomad towing a caravan across the north of Australia from east to west and some distance south on the WA side, sticking to mainly tarred surfaces etc. I am wondering if this style of antenna picks up chatter (conversations) easily on outback areas. I was advised this was the best way to go (by the salesman) so that there was no hole drilled in the metal of the vehicle. What I really want to know then, is this type of antenna any good?
Hi Ray, Thanks for reaching out to us. On-glass antennas are definitely suitable for that type of driving, the only thing we would recommend is that for long-distance outback driving the antenna selected is a higher dbi gain. Hope this helps!
Hi Robin, we recommend the AE4705B - it’s 1200mm long, has 6.6dBi gain, and a heavy duty design which is perfect for the tough tracks and corrugations up in Cape York
Hi Ethan, By adding in a splitter you will introduce another point of loss which will ultimiately impact the performance/range of your antenna. Instead we recommend the use of an interchangeable whips over splitters.
@@ethanwebber2160 by having 2 UHFs you will be able to ensure the best possible performance of the antennas, especially if you do not want to interchange whips.
The key difference between the XRS 4WD Pack and the Outback Pack antennas is their size and ruggedness. The 4WD pack (AE4704B) has a thicker spring base and radome to suit more harsh environments. Hope this helps!
I would like to change my antenna to one with a heavier spring but as the existing GME fibre glass elevated feed is wired right back to my overhead roof console, is there any way to change it without a complete rewire ?
I have a hand held GME TX6160 which I would like to mount on my motorcycle (BMW R1250GS) when touring. What antenna would be recommended for this application please?
Please don't roast me for asking this question: I love the overall durability, design, and look of these Ausse CME antennas. However, I live in the United States. Before I purchase one of these, can they be used in the USA.
G'day I'm looking to put a bull bar mounted AM/FM radio antenna on my 70 series, but don't know which ones compatible with standard radio ports. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated Cheers
Hi there! Our AM/FM antennas come with an auto plug at the end of the cable that should work with a standard radio port. For more info or to chat further though we would recommend giving our tech team a call on 1300463463!
I would like to know more about our windscreen mounted antenna (AE5003), compared to bullbar mounted antenna. Real life information is just not available
Does a ground dependent antenna need metal-on-metal contact with the ground plane or can it go on a painted surface? (i.e. thin insulation between base and roof)
I currently have a 2.1dbi mounted on my ute sportsbar, which works well in the mountains. However I will soon be crossing the Nullarbor towing a 3m tall caravan. Would you recommend a 6.6 or 8.1 antenna for the trip?
For open terrain we would recommend either of those higher gain antennas but given the height of our 8.1dbi option (2.1m), the 6.6dbi would likely be more than sufficient for your needs!
Hi Tony. Great vid, have just found it. I currently have a XRS-330C CB with a AE4018 mounted to the bull bar. I'm going to instal a KAON antenna mount which fits in front of the LHS rear view mirror. I tow a caravan on long highway runs but also on heavily corrugated outback roads. Should i stick with the AE4018 or go to the more sturdy AE4704? Cheers
Hi there! Regarding your query, if you are doing a fair amount of driving on corrugated roads we would recommend upgrading your AE4018 to a radome style antenna like the AE4704B.
Hi All I have a GME 2.1 DBI ground independent fibre glass aerial, as part of a the 4WD XRS pack, can this be mounted on top of tub racks and still work effectively?
Hi Rohan, we couldn’t cover every single antenna in this video as we have a lot of models - is there something in particular you want to know about the on-glass ones?
Hi I have been using an Oricom fibreglass whip, like the thin one you demonstrated, but have it mounted on the roof of my 4wd and i have lost a couple of them with them being wiped out by low hanging branches. Does the bigger thicker ones you have demonstrated handle the punishment better?
Gidday! What is the aerial for? Is it for transmitting (sending) the signal or receiving or both? Also is it bad to have the radio on without an aerial?
Hi Richard, That's correct, the antenna is used for both transmitting and receiving. It is recommended to only use the radio with an antenna connected to prevent potential damage to the radio itself.
hi team great video clip. I have installed a GME TX3350UVP and the tip of my has been snapped off. long story but i tapped it up. Is it possible to replace the antenna using the same mount with something similar or more versatile. ?
Hi Richard, head into your nearest dealer and they can chat with you about getting the best antenna for your needs. You can find your nearest dealer here www.gme.net.au/au/find-a-dealer
Just wondering around a city with my am cb radio in the truck would a 1.2metre gme Arial mirror mounted give me further range compared with a 600 ml size, no hills around but certainly being around the city there are buildings thanks
Hi mate, without getting too technical, there isn’t much difference between a 600mm and a 1200mm AM CB antenna, aside from looks. Performance-wise they are very similar, it just comes down to aesthetics
Yeah Tony I have a question. I'm getting a 2022 rav 4 hybrid next year! Am I able to run my 6dbi and 2.1 dbi antennas on hybrid vehicles at all thanks?.
Hey Tony, I'm new to this whole 4X4 thing so be patient with me if this is a stupid question. I'm kitting out my new vehicle with plans to go "off grid" caravaning. After finally finding your site (apparent to me most suppliers esp ARB have no real product knowledge) I'm sold on the 390C. Now, I'm researching the best Aerial you recommend. I want a combination to cater for all terrain. In this video you make mention to the Radome 4705 being the most popular. However I have read a number of comments in many of your videos and you reply with suggesting an AE4704B? Now I'm assuming the 4704 is diff to the 4705 (Obviuosly) Which one is better or maybe which caters for what circumstances might be the better question?
Hi Martin, Thanks for reaching out. It would ultimately depend on what terrain you are looking ot explore. If you are doing more open country and flat areas then we would recommend the AE4705B (6.6dbi) where if you are doing more mountainous and hilly terrain than the AE4704B (2.1dbi) would be better suited. It may be worth noting these 2 are interchangeable on the same base if you are doing both.
@@GMEaus Thanks Tony, appreciate you taking the time to reply! I've oredered the XRS-390C & asked for the"twin pack" The suppliers invoice states "AE4705BTP twin pak (2.1 &6.6 dBi Gain)" I'm assuming this is the one? which they say will be 12 weeks? I'm getting excited & thanks as I can now make sure the pack I'm getting has both these product no's specifically. Greatly appreciated 👍
Hi orsom info I am thinking of mounting my GME ground independent antenna on the corner of my rear bar as I don't have mounts on my bull bar will this effect the antenna's performance in this location Cheers
Hi Darren, This will not overly effect the performance. As the vehicle is in the way of forward transmissions the distance forward may be slightly impacted, but transmissions to the rear will be stronger.
I have four antennas that I have purchased over the years and really do not know what type they are. Can you advise if there is any way of working out the antenna specifications from simply looking at them. I drive a Triton ute but do not drive off road with most driving being around town when I use a short (I believe 1/4 wave unit -- flexible and about 120 long) and a longer one when driving interstate (about 630mm long fiberglass type with a wide space wire about 90mm long about 1/3rd the way up the shaft). I can't use the longer antenna around town at it hits the roof when driving into most shopping centre car parks. The antennas are both labeled GME and are mounted on a GME non dependent base mount, the lot being mounted on to the tray surround and just behind the rear window. Any advice to this novice will be greatly appreciated.
Hi Ibrahim, Unfortunately not, our antennas come with that length to allow mounting in a range of different positions depending on the customer preference.
Hi John, it would depend on the main type of driving you are doing and the terrain you are exploring? If you could provide some more info on the that and the vehicle it will be on we will be happy to assist!
Hey just wondering, my antenna is fibreglass and i was wondering if being mounted on a fender bracket would damage my antenna? the car is V8 petrol land cruiser. im not sure how long the antenna has been on the car since i am not the original owner but it seems to be working alright. i also am pretty new to the UHF CB scene so i have an extremely basic understanding of what the hell im talking about. just hoping that my antenna is durable enough to survive a bit of off-roading and over time general wear and tear from a fair bit of vibration..
@@DinDjarin6969 That should be fine! Just note that the elevated feed style antenna is not as well suited to off-road terrain and corrugations when compared to the radome style antennas.
Hi mate, yes it does. When transmitting, a high-gain antenna allows more transmitted power to be sent to the receiver, increasing the received signal strength. When receiving, a high gain antenna captures more of the signal, again increasing signal strength
Tony, I just bought a 390C recently through 4wd24/7 and have seen your excellent video on antennas. My question is this, can I install 2 antennas, one at 2.1 and one a 6.6dbi to get the best of both worlds in regards to coverage? Using a splitter or something like that?
Hi Wayne, this can be done but will require a splitter of which we do not offer. We instead recommend the interchangeable whips as this does not add another point of loss in the system and ensures the best possible performance.
I just fitted the gme tx 3100,and it come with a tiny antenna on a magnet. I want to mount an antenna on my bull bar, and im only using it whilst towing my van, and communicating with our traveling companions. What would you suggest i use in my application pls? Regards Mark.
I don’t want to carry my roof rack, lights and antenna with me everywhere when I am not 4WDing or touring. Is it safe to add a separation point to the coax by (professionally) crimping an FME connection in a weatherproof location? Is there an disadvantage to using a AE4026 around town and a AE4705BTP when out and about?
@@SalvoDan Hi mate, it is safe to do so but please note that this will add another point of loss into the system which may impact the performance. Also there will be a disadvantage to using the AE4026 as this is a lower db than the AE4704B included in the twin pack.
Found with the 4705 they kill themselves with how much they shake... Model below it lasts heaps longer! Slightly less stiff spring doesnt snap the fiberglass top
We are interested to learn more about the failure you've experienced as the fibreglass radome on an AE4705 shouldn't snap from regular use. We have tested these antennas extensively across some of the harshest terrain in Australia and the only fibreglass radomes we've had fail are from impacting birds and trees.

If you want to know more about the different XRS value packs check out this video ruclips.net/video/2CchCJXT5AE/видео.html
And if you are still unsure, find your nearest dealer and have a chat with them. You can find a dealer here www.gme.net.au/au/find-a-dealer
@@GMEaus Thanks for taking the time to reply to my query, it is appreciated! :)
just watched this video great stuff, my question is can you joint 2 different gain ariels to the radio using a T joiner, i have a 2.1 and a 6.1 i think hoping to have the best of short and long distance all at once
Hi mate,
You can but we do not offer a product to allow this as this will add another point of loss into the system and can impact performance.
Trying to find a antenna for am/fm radio local and heading into the high country, cruising down the Hume. Thankyou
Hi matt, the AEM7 or AEM4705B will be good options for your AM/FM needs in those areas!
@@GMEaus thanks very much for the information and reply 👍
Gday you don’t mention the gme 409l I run them great performing antenna.
unfortunately due to the size of our antenna range we cant mention them all in this video, however the AE409L is a great performing antenna!
Can you get Custom colours
unfortunately not but we will pass this on to the team to look into!
Hi Tomo, sounds like the AE4704B is the perfect choice for you!
@@GMEaus Thank you very much for straight up and honest advice.
Much appreciated.
Hi Mick, Yes it will be fine on the bullbar, but as always the higher up the antenna is mounted, the better the performance
I have a GME spring base, but have snapped off the whip. How do I know what thread size whip to buy? How is this thread size identified in the model numbers? Thanks
Hi there,
for this we would recommend contacting our tech support team on 1300463463 and they will be able to assist!
Hi Richard,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!
For the best performance we recommend installing upright and not rotated at 90 degrees.
For best in convoy we would suggest the lower dbi options. However for more technical info it would be worth having a chat to the tech support team on 1300463463.
Can this "ground Independent" antenna be connected to a regular car radio for better reception?
Hi Kevin, this antenna would is a UHF antenna, for car stereo antennas we would recommend checking out our AM/FM antennas such as the AEM7 on our website for this purpose.
I've got a large aluminium roof rack 3 mtrs above ground is that best suited for ground dependent reception?
Hello, great video ! I’m in need of a FM antenna upgrade.
Would 100mm spacing between, aem4705 and ae4705 be ok ? As one is a FM antenna and the other UHF.

Hi there, to ensure the best performance we recommend 300mm seperation between antennas.
@@GMEaus thanks for the reply, would it be possible to mount them horizontal on each side of my roof rack ?
@@catatropic233 for them to work properly they would need to be mounted upright, however they could be mounted on a MB042B fold down bracket to lower them when not in use.
I have an Amarok with a tub with a Smartcap steel canopy on it . I was thinking of getting a CB and mounting an antenna (probably 2.1 ) for around town and occasional rural use. I don't have or want a bullbar so was thinking of fixing the antenna in the gap between the canopy and the rear of the cab (up high just below roof height) . Does this sound a reasonable spot to mount it ?
Assuming the radiating element of the antenna (the radome) is above the roof line, yes, this will work well.

so , just watched your video. at 2.29 you show and talk about the AE4005 antenna as being ground dependent , HOWEVER your web site states that it is a ground independent antenna.
so what is it ???????????
Hi Aaron, this was a slight mess-up on our part. The AE4005 is ground independent.
I have a TX4200 CB , will be doing a "loop" in a 4wd with some off road, what antenna would be best.
For this we would probably recommend something like the AE4702 (6.6dbi radome antenna) as an allrounder

Hi Jonno, we do an AM/FM variant of the AE4705B. It is called the AEM4705B.
I have a CX3100 starter kit. Is the antenna supplied with this kit a ground independent type. From your video I feel it is but I just wish to confirm. Thanks!!
Yes that is correct, the AE4018K2 included in the TX3100VP is Ground Independent.
Is there an antenna I can purchase to screw onto the magnetic base included in my TX6160 kit to enhance it's overall performance?
This is not something we offer directly, but there may be 3rd party options available with longer whips that offer higher gain.

Hi Frun, unfortunately not as the IC-r10 is not a product of ours. We would recommend contacting Icom regarding this.
Excellent info, well presented.
Hi Ray,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
On-glass antennas are definitely suitable for that type of driving, the only thing we would recommend is that for long-distance outback driving the antenna selected is a higher dbi gain.
Hope this helps!
Do any of the XRS radios operate in the HF (3-30MHz) range?
Unfrotunately not, the XRS range are UHF CB only (477mhz).
what is the best length of antenna for travel around Cape York?
Hi Robin, we recommend the AE4705B - it’s 1200mm long, has 6.6dBi gain, and a heavy duty design which is perfect for the tough tracks and corrugations up in Cape York
I was wondering if antenna splitters effect the range of the antenna?
Hi Ethan,
By adding in a splitter you will introduce another point of loss which will ultimiately impact the performance/range of your antenna. Instead we recommend the use of an interchangeable whips over splitters.
@@GMEaus I suppose if I want 2 antennas working without getting out of the car to change the whip I’m better off having 2 UHF’s

what's the difference between the 4wd and outback models? if I customised 330 to take 82cm 4wd antenna

Hi Joe,
Provided the AE5003 is installed correctly it will work just as effectively as a bullbar mounted 2.1dbi antenna.
Does a ground dependent antenna need metal-on-metal contact with the ground plane or can it go on a painted surface? (i.e. thin insulation between base and roof)
Hi there, sorry for the delay!
It would need to be on bare metal/metal-on-metal.
Hope this helps!

Yes mate 👍
what about the glass mount antenna?
Hi Rohan, we couldn’t cover every single antenna in this video as we have a lot of models - is there something in particular you want to know about the on-glass ones?
Hi I have been using an Oricom fibreglass whip, like the thin one you demonstrated, but have it mounted on the roof of my 4wd and i have lost a couple of them with them being wiped out by low hanging branches. Does the bigger thicker ones you have demonstrated handle the punishment better?
Hi Andrew, yes, our heavy duty fibreglass radomes are designed to withstand the tough conditions encountered in the bush
What am/fm ground independent aerial would you recommend for a caravan.
we don't offer a ground independent am/fm antenna to suit, but since it is receive only the AEM7 or AEM3 would suit.
Hi Tony, got a xrs330c, does it can match the heavy duty antenna 4704b? Or it only can connect to 4707b?
Hi mate, either antenna will work with the XRS-330C
What about boat's, aluminium vs fibreglass.

Hi Tim,
No the AT4705B will not work as a UHF antenna as they operate on a different MHz frequency.
Where can I buy one in the states ? Ae4705.
Gidday! What is the aerial for? Is it for transmitting (sending) the signal or receiving or both? Also is it bad to have the radio on without an aerial?
Hi Richard,
That's correct, the antenna is used for both transmitting and receiving. It is recommended to only use the radio with an antenna connected to prevent potential damage to the radio itself.

Hi there mate, yes that should be fine to run your antennas on your new hybrid.
Hi Martin,
Thanks for reaching out.
Hi orsom info I am thinking of mounting my GME ground independent antenna on the corner of my rear bar as I don't have mounts on my bull bar will this effect the antenna's performance in this location

Hi Darren,
This will not overly effect the performance.
Any advice to this novice will be greatly appreciated.

we do a couple of cellular antennas that may suit your needs, the AT4704BA and the AE4705BA.
Do you make a shorter cable as 4.5mtrs is beyond excess to my needs max ill need like something 2mtrs
Hi Ibrahim,
Unfortunately not, our antennas come with that length to allow mounting in a range of different positions depending on the customer preference.
Hi buying for caravan which is the best aerial for the xrs

Do the gain of the antenna have any effect on receiving signals?
