Basically duplex is for repeater towers channels 1 through to channel 8 and channels 41 through to 48 if duplex is active and a repeater is found it will go through repeater for example u hit scan and u find a repeater it will make a tone sound or there will be a recording saying it’s a repeater so once u find your local repeater for example say it’s on channel 7 hit duplex mode hit the ptt button for a second if u hear a bounce back of your transmission u are good to go then when you talk on channel 7 duplex your transmission will then be thrown back out on channel 37 why is it like this well repeater towers are on high points like mountains and by inputting your transmission on channel 7 then outputting it on channel 37 u have just gained up to 200 km of transmission range but if your not using these channels in duplex mode please stay off them unless u know there’s no local repeater on that channel because somone might be trying to use the repeater for an emergency
Just a thing to add also u don’t need mobile service for the location services to work just download the map of where u are before u go out of service. U can also program the uhf to come up with the persons name who’s talking on the hand piece and it will also come up with a compass position and how many meters they are away from u so u don’t have to use your phone and u can also set way points on the app now and there also a crew talk option that alows only your group of mates to talk to each other and no one else can talk
