@anarchotrent I wouldn't say LOST their edge, I'd say it's just dormant. I think sometime in the future they will strip down and just play music because they enjoy it. Even Matt had said in the past few months that he wants the next album to be downscaled from The Resistance. They got a feeling of what it's like to be at the position they're currently in, and he said after he wants to do smaller shows in places like arenas, and be a little more intimate. Only time will tell I guess :)
@BiffyReuben Matt Bellamy is a more accomplished musician without question. His guitar lines are exemplary and he is a master pianist. Simon Neil is a fantastic musician, but cannot match Bellamy's technical ability. As songwriters, they are two very different artists and I reckon on par with each other. Bellamy writes fantastic space vistas with crushing guitars. Neil crafts huge works of art with genius lyrics and bombastic breaks and choruses. Both are awesome British artists. Nuff said.
@JamesCmuse I agree, Muse have lost their edge, while Biffy have evolved it. There's lots of their older sound in Only Revolutions it's just peppered with strings and horns and new rhythms and ideas. Muse dropped out of favour with me after Black Holes and my fave record by them is still Origin. but with Biffy, while I've been a fan for ages, the stuff on Puzzle really got me into them and Revolutions just blew me away. Some Kind of Wizard is still my fave tune by them tho lol.
@pelee57 Bellamy can scream, but he just fucking won't. It's a shame. Look up the Stockholm Syndrome at Glastonbury 04. The ending scream to that song is fantastic. Back in the day, Muse had the raw energy that Biffy have today. It's just a shame Muse have become more polished than raw. As far as skill goes, I think Bellamy is a better musician over all. Although his guitar is more effect based, his piano playing is truly beautiful. He knows his way around his instruments. I love both so much.
@tomo2k5k sure matt bellamy can hit the high notes but he doesn't he definitely can't scream like simon and all his lyrics tend to be about the world ending/space. he's a good guitarist sure, but he uses a shit ton of effects aswel which make it easy for him to sound good. whereas simon just has a nice guitar tone. '90% Power chords' - No. Go learn some songs off vertigo of bliss, sick chords and time signature changes, much more inventive than anything bellamys ever come up with.
Its funny how people keep comparing Muse and Biffy they're completly different as we all know, and yet i also favor both bands above any other. And hell yea Simon is talented but you should be carefull comparing him to Matt cause he's an allround musician who's capable of pulling ANYTHING off! I would visit a Biffy gig cause of their rawness and energy, and i would visit a Muse gig because of their perfection in vocals aswell as instrumentals. Thats what makes the big difference between these.
saw muse at wembley sept 11th, looking around, i saw people doing the ol mosh business an jumping up an down, only to this song, i only really like this and a couple of others so i cant name any of the other songs they did, but when muse finished off with knights of cydonia, there was more energy in that mosh (3-4 hours later) than there was during biffy songs, same in sheffield when muse played then, and more emotion? emotion cannot be measured unless your some rapper crapper then theres none
I personally prefer Biffy to Muse. Just cause i get kinda bored with the muse sound cause the last 3 albums could have all linked together. Plus muse are not "Rocky" enough nowadays. Biffy reinvent themselves every song and dont rely on effects to make great music. But of course Muse are selling out stadiums and huge arenas all over the world. Its all to taste for everybody. I love my beefy yet catchy riffs that biffy make.
I love both biffy and muse and have seen them both live. Biffy puts in more emotion but muse are more about being perfect live. Vocal range Simon is no where near matt bellamys standard, guitar wise they are different kind of guitarists but Matt Bellamy is probably a better guitarist however Simon Neil is very unique. Overall i prefer biffy because of there pure emotion and unbelievable lyrics! MON THE BIFF
@dillonclifty I'm talking about technical ability. I do agree with the guy who said perhaps Simon puts more emotion into his music, however his riffs and vocal range do not compare to that of Bellamy's. It's not really an opinion to be honest, 90% of Simon's riffs are just power chords, none of the guitar work is technically impressive really. That doesn't mean it's bad in the slightest, it's how it all fits together and makes a song that makes it impressive.
@tomo2k5k i have to agree with you here, Simon Neil is a genius in the way that he uses every guitar tuning possible to create a very unique sound for Biffy, an example in this song, if you have a look at the tabs for most of thier stuff it envovles a lot of barring a frett and strumming madly but saying that it does sound awomse. Where as someone like Bellamy who is classically trained and is amazing at everything plus can sing like a physco it kinda doesnt weigh up.
wembley 2010, white lies got me moving, biffy got me jumping, but muse were just on a whole different level. few things in life are as good as jumping up and down with your arm over complete strangers having a moment of bliss...during bliss. ahh, just the best most insane gig ive ever ever been to
@tomo2k5k No offence to matt belamy or yourself, but simon niel hardly ever uses power chords, he's known for really obscure chord shapes and his ridiculous ability to multi-task, matt belamy and the whole of muse for thatmatter are classical muscians which gives themalot of skill but as for creativity simon niel owns. p.s muse is gay xx
@Beezaboy you clearly dont know what your talking about BIFFY rely on oddly timed songs, which is their effect, muse do jams, look up mk jam and helsinki jam absolution, blackholes and revelations and resistance sounding the same? sure youve not just been listening to the same album again
its not my opinion, matt definitely has a wider range, i dont think either band have shit tunes, but i do agree muse are more radio friendly. bu that happened to biffy too, look at puzzle, and even only revolutions are far more radio friendly than any of their other albums!
simon does not write better songs, musically muse have better songs, matt has just as much passion and aggression as simon, and matts voice has a far wider range than simon, i cant believe you even thought the opposite!simons voice however is usually the same unless he shouts
If we're gonna talk about muse I gotta say my part: Muse got a few good songs and are quite talented, but they use to much effects. I hate to much effects, go play in a fucking synthband if you want your guitar or bass to sound like a keyboard...
@tehStevee uhhhh..... Muse is a three-piece also. Both bands often use a fourth member live. Bellamy's musicianship slams any other popular rocker's, but I reckon Neil's lyrics are certainly more beautiful.
@Benny2393 Oh yeah Muse formed in 1992, my year of birth :) However Biffy formed when all members were 15, on the internet it says 1995, but that's when people started to take notice of them, they really formed in the 1980's.
bellamy has talent and is a fantasdtic musician however, Simon is so passianate about the music that he doesn't give a shit what he looks like on stage when he's going for it and besides the music is better in my opinion!
matt bellamy is an all round more talented musician i think, simon is really good, but i think hes a very lazy player, especially live, bellamy has had musical training since he was really young
@tehStevee - it sounds good, does it matter if its power chords, it doesnt mean it a lesser song - fatboyslim pushes two buttons on a cd player.... he still makes banging tunes - less is more
and im not having a go at muse, they're good value live although all their songs sound the same these days, and im not bumming simon either cos they went downhill after infinity land.
@tomo2k5k your a bigger fan of muse than of biffy clyro and are therefore gonna defend muse no matter what anyone says, pointless discussing anything with people so closed minded
I like both bands but Matt Bellamy is way better on guitar. Listen to plug in baby, the invincible solo, the new born solo, stockholm syndrome, knights of cydonia. bye
I totally agree with you on that. Simon is a great guitarist, but Matt Bellamy is currently doing to the guitar what Hendrix did to it in the 70's: reinventing it.
@theNISK i was at a biffy gig in dundee last year , and there were a few standing stillers and i swear i was fuming, 99% of us were going fucking haywire
I love Biffy, probably one of my top 3 favourite bands, but Simon Neil just isn't anywhere near as talented as Matt Bellamy in basically any field. And I mean that in the least offensive way possible, as Simon is a genius.
I just LOVE the way Simon is killing his guitar from 2.45
Biffy are a zillion times better than muse.
@anarchotrent I wouldn't say LOST their edge, I'd say it's just dormant. I think sometime in the future they will strip down and just play music because they enjoy it. @tomo2k5k exactly, im not a big fan of muse, comparing muse and biffy is pathetic in a way, totally different bands, in my opinion, mon the biff! :-)
@theNISK i was at a biffy gig in dundee last year , and there were a few standing stillers and i swear i was fuming, 99% of us were going fucking haywire
I love it how Simon allways sings the parts played by brass or strings. They should get more succesful to hire some damn orchestra or something...
let us not forget the other members of biffy clyro.. james and ben. not just simon, gorgey as he is. but still great band :)
lol they always play their instruments pretty tightly but man does simon always sound like a drunk live
lol i love em anyways
Also the timing of Muse is like perfect, Biffy's timing is odd and very original which i think is truely awsome though!
There songs sound so much better live.like a million times better.that stupid record company has ruined biffy.
Matt Bellamy Vs Simon Neill?
No contest. Bellamy is probably the finest guitarist in Rock at the moment.
@tomo2k5k matt uses alot of synth and effects hardware on his guitars etc etc , summit to think about
Matt Bellamy is a great guitarist but could never write a song as awsome as this mon the biffy
@Muser13sm Biffy arn't influenced by Muse, Biffy were around slightly before muse were formed
You can tell this is one of there first songs on the set, simon is not drowning lol
i always think of biffy clyro as just a band that open ups for othes like muse
@Elltrixer Wouldn't that make Simon younger than ten? If he was born in 79?
Of course he can, why not? Muse is the greatest band in british history!
Simon Neill and Matt Bellamy are both awesome musicians. End of story.
Im amazed by the fact that his guitar isnt in 7000 pieces lol :D
@Elltrixer Yeah, that isn't really true? You know that right?
Simon relies on full blown rock and Matt relies on effects
Mike Vennart canes them both anyway (Biffys 4th member)
both are awesome in their own ways. is it so hard?
@Benny2393Yes, that is true, facts on my side boy.
love how simon murders the guitar near the end XD
I love Biffy, probably one of my top 3 favourite bands, but Simon Neil just isn't anywhere near as talented as Matt Bellamy in basically any field. And I mean that in the least offensive way possible, as Simon is a genius.
Do you still think that way, now 11 years later? There seems to be no limit to Biffy’s creativity
ha..ha....ha.....wow...you couldn be more wrong
@Gnarlybenson try joe strummer from the clash
they are so gonna kick arse at reading!!!!!!
noone plays with the energy of the clash, they sang slow reggae songs that fire you up and got mosh pits going, unbelievable energy
Wrong video, bud
incredible performance !!
