I bought the 556 Classic around 2011 or 12 and love it. With the AR look using AR mags and a AK bolt carrier like group with a long stroke adjustable gas piston. Very soft shooter, dependable / brass & steel ammo and shoots very tight groups. It's a keeper.
Bought my first SIG556 Classic in 2009 shortly after they released that model & gave diopter sights as an option. Then I met Mike at CGS and it was a slow but steady downhill slope from there. Lead to me getting involved w/ CDNN & the SIG551-A1 project and then got one of the first 553P pistols from CGS/M+M when those first started coming with the correct 8.9" threaded barrel. I have to say Mike was always a great guy to me as both a business associate & friend. Then again, I can say the same thing about Dave at JDI. Basically, everyone I've met thanks to the SG55x has been good people.
I have wanted one of these rifles for over half my life. I am fortunate enough to own a couple American versions. The swiss stuff is simply out of my reach....i can still dream though. Thank you for sharing your collection with us.
I used to think that when he was talking AK’s. He pretty much spot on with his history. I’ve got 12 yrs on him buying but still go back and watch his videos.
Thanks Misha for these great videos. I love these Swiss firearms and like the subtle differences between the variants. I'm about to place a deposit on the SIG 551 16.2" carbine that Dave is bringing in now with delivery hopefully in December. Would love to grab a 551 LB and 751 too when or if they become available again.
I've always loved this family of guns! First saw them in Kayne and Lynch for Xbox, then noticed them in some movies etc so my first airsoft gun as a kid as a 552 commando.
My friend has some of those sig 551 2sp at his gun store for sale, but they are very pricey. They are not Louisiana fish and game guns, they came from a police department back east don't remember the exact state.
Man that 551-2SP is sexy. I'm a sucker for OD/green guns though. I doubt I'll ever have one in my collection, but I'm thankful to have a 553. In my top 3 favorite guns for sure. Thanks for sharing Misha!
Is your 553 green? Mine is, well green furniture w/ grey metal. I really enjoy that little carbine. Funny thing is i got it from Dave when the guy who had originally ordered it from Switzerland as a special build changed his mind and didn't want it by the time it got here. His loss. Its exactly how I would have gone: steel lower, 4 way gas regulator, factory rail (I have clamp on diopters on it now) and the already mentioned colour scheme. It looks like a mini-PE90 hehe.
@@misha5670 Nice! That's a cool setup. No mine is all black. It was one of the early JDI imports before he really had a bunch of options. Has the machined lower but I wish it was the stamped version instead as I just like the look better. I have the rail kit to add to the original handguard but leave them off most of the time. I have the 4 way regulator too. I've been meaning to order those diopter sights but cringe everytime I look at the price. I need them to complete the look though. Hopefully they bring in some more 550 OD/gray models in the future. I'd like a more classic setup as well eventually.
@@misha5670 I, we, love your we work. Thank you fof sharing. Specially to the younger generation that will only see them on xbox live. Cheers my friends.
I have to say, for a country thats doesn't choose sides, they make some of the best gear, to choose from! The odd thing about these rifles/carbine, is the location of the recoil spring, inside the gas tube. The Beretta AR70 does that and so does the Kell-Tec SU16. How bad does all of that heat and carbon, wear down that spring on the Swiss rifles?
And the AR70 does that because both have a common ancestor in the SG-530. Actually the 2 designs are shockingly similar even into the 1980s and I love both. As for the spring, they seem to hold up great; but then again Switzerland used 'Crout space magic' when making them so yeah.
I was wondering what do you think cost of manufacturing is on the SAN rifles? They look beautiful in my opinion. I'm curious if the hurdles of trying to import these has a significant impact on overall price? Im Not trying to bash on the price because if my situation was different I'd own one lol.
The SG55x series is quite expensive and time consuming to manufacture. Remember, all parts are made in a very modern nation with very good wages for labor. As for the cost of import, really its no different than anything else, like say a WASR10
Thanks Misha. I very much liked the detail explanation, comparison and footage. Maby, if You get your hands on new HK SP5, You d consider comparing it to Pakistani POF MP5? BTW, waffles or pancakes kind of question. SEF or Pictograms? I think that old SEF trigger packs with profiled, ergonomic grips were way cooler. As always cheers from Poland.
Yep, i like the old style of HK trigger housing myself. I can do an SP5 vs POF MP5 video sometime sure. I can already tell you that the POF is closer to a mil-issue SMG though hehe.
I had the Sig 7.62x39 I really wish it had worked never got I to a point I could trust it. I sent it to Sig usa 2 times and they gave me a list of what they fixed each time but it never worked right when I got it back so i sold it
SAN got the SG553R to work 100%, but it did take a bit of testing and modification to the basic design. Some of the biggest changes were to enlarge and reshape the ejection port, tune the recoil spring, slightly change the hammer spring, and tinkering with the magwell geometry and feedramp. In the end though, SAN created a true military grade 7.62x39 weapon.
I own several of those 551-2SP rifles, the Louisiana Wildlife F&G trade-ins... I love them long time! I want to buy some of the more recently imported 55x, the rifle length system ones, but as pistols. I wasn’t paying attention when the most recent ones have come, though I do own a few 2012 era M+M 553P pistols, but nothing since. Company in Arkansas bring more in? Or something like that?
Louisiana Wildlife Fish and Game, You can t not love America because of course State Game Wardens need that gucci swiss sturmgewehrs, meanwhile in Africa Kenyan Park Rangers are using old, rusty portuguese G3s in regular battles against poachers armed with full auto AKs and other heavy things.
Actually the SG551-2 SWAT was a perfect fit for LWFG. Short, easy to maintain, durable, utterly reliable, and corrosion resistant inside and out. As wet and humid as LA is, yeah very important.
The mr Rogers of guns. Great as always.

Sell the "a couple American versions" and you get to buy a Swiss one.
@357Stoitch one of these days i might not be to resist the urge...to buy one.
Sig must be your favorite manufacturer jeez you know soooo much about the history of Sig great video brother✌🏼

Today I was looking for a SIG 551A1 with Sig factory mags I should have gotten one when they first came out at CDNN .
Yep, you should have because at their current prices, you might as well save up a bit more and get a real Swiss mfg gun from JDI/SAN Imports.
Hey there nice video.
I want to ask is there any extended mag release for this rifle.
Thank you
A slice of swiss heaven
I'd watch a reality show about a Swiss gun company. Kind of like Sons of Guns, but ya' know? actually good with knowledgeable people.

I'm very new to this family of rifles. What model should I be going after to get my feet wet in this platform without spending 2+ grand?
Honestly? Just save up and get into this family later on in your life. Even the USA made clones are approaching $2k these days so....

Why?
Misha So the community can talk with eachother about firearm related things, kind of like a forum.
I would be active if we had a chat/mb,discord
Does it work with IE11 & Windows7? I know that livestreaming on youtube does not.
