I thought this man was about to tell us he was ruled "dead" and literally buried alive in his casket
Same
That's what I thought 🤣
Me too 😂
ME TOO! CLICKBAIT! Hahaha ;P love @Dave Ramsey
Same and I’m kinda disappointed because I wanted to know how he got TF up outta there…
I am a workers compensation attorney. Here’s some advice: if you are in the middle of a litigated comp claim, don’t call into the Dave Ramsey show and spill the tea.
But he just did that so for others don't do that
Workers comp is the worst thing I’ve ever had to deal with. I had a legit work injury and they denied my claim. SAIF is absolutely horrible and I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with them
Yeah, hopefully buddy did not prepare too much because that settlement went away/reduced significantly after this
Lmfao
How much would a claim like this typically be?
His lawyers probably spit out their coffee when they found out he just said he's feeling great and thinks he can go back to work soon on national radio..... When this stuff happens, SHUT UP and only talk to your attorney.
The insurance company already is filming him 24/7. Never, ever say you are OK until you cash the settlement check, Geez
100% this. Don't talk about it unless the case is resolved.
He’s an honest person. He’s not looking to scam insurance or his employer.
@@ericm6818 Yeah but the problem is his honesty could be turned against him in court and deny him settlement.
Sometimes the best policy is to shut up, not be candidly honest.
@@ericm6818 Doesn't matter you don't say a WORD. They are going to do everything they can to avoid paying a settlement. Settlements like this will take years and I'm sure his lawyers told him not to discuss his case. If they didn't he needs to find a new lawyer. As he heals he might find he has limitations he didn't realize, a higher level of disability, or the doctors might discover something else wrong that was overlooked initially. You don't say a WORD. Especially on a radio talk show discussing a settlement you won't receive for years.
Clicking on this I was 100% excited about hearing a mortician screwup story how someone came back to life after getting buried in their grave. Probably should lay off the horror movies for a bit.
Same! Lol
Samezies!
😂
I know right I was totally disappointed when I found out it was a building LOL I was hoping he was embalmed and Buried LOL
SAAAAAAAAME!😂
The story is wild. Glad he's on the mend.
But I definitely came in here kind of hoping that this was a guy who woke up during the funeral.
ikr this is kinda clickbait
Hahaha
That’s what I was thinking!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this was a funeral related burial...
Same
“I’ll get to it quick and ask the question.”
Never, ever, ever leads to getting to it quick.
Corporations pay billions a year for insurance on stuff like this. He should get a massive payout. I’ve seen family members who were not the same after much minor accidents.
Sadly, he will not see much. He has to prove he cannot work or be trained to work in another field.
He just announced to the whole world he's ok and going back to normal. I don't see the payout being as high as he's imagining.
Poor guy, I wish him the best in the rest of his life and wishing him a long long life.
His attorney's advice on what a timeline looks like matters more than a debt/baby step timeline right now.
This guy has such an amazing commendable attitude. Fine fine example.
God bless him. He hopefully will get a huge settlement and be able to have a peaceful, wonderful life going forward. He sounds like a great guy no blame in his voice how words are not filled with anger but has a definite desire to live !
I really wish him the best
I was a Union Carpenter myself; after my injury (minor) they greeted Mr back a told "safety" to kick me off the site; they did.
Afterwards I was essentially blackballed. I lost everything. Went thru a bout of depression, worked at a cheese house afterwards.
I regret none of it. There was a rainbow that the end of it all. :)
This was one of the weirdest Dave Ramsey conversations. They were like talking to him so weird. They were like you didn't win the lottery, like the poor injured guy was being greedy or something and then they were like your never going back to Percocet are you, like the caller's a drug addict or something.
It is all a bit weird.
But most people start their addictions after being introduced during a hospital stay.
@@ianeagle40nilThe guy has to go back for more surgery. He’s going to be on something after that. It’s not appropriate to make him say “never again” when he knows he’ll be having more surgery.
And most pill popping addictions actually started from people who were already addicts, then they get injured or whatever, then they’re assisted to pills.
People are perfectly capable of managing pain meds without addiction. Being honest about the pain is the first start. I had knee surgery and was given Percocet. I went through my first bottle faster than they wanted, even though I followed their instructions to the letter. But I was still in agony, especially after my first PT appt. So they gave me one more rx and said no more after that. I took one, maybe two more doses, and was fine with ibuprofen after. Every one is different, but we are still capable.
They are just trying to take his situation seriously.
This is exactly how peoples lives get ruined. This is a textbook start to an opioid addict who ends up on drugs.
Also, this man sees to be overly optimistic about getting back to good health.
His income is 100% dependent on his health. His health has been taken from him and he does not know how that will affect him in the years to come. (Serious damage to rotator cuffs, biceps, bones, and brain)
He needs to understand that his ability to generate income has been compromised and he might need medical assistance later as well.
Yeah, the Percocet bit really bothered me. I can’t imagine telling him to just take the pain if something else went wrong and he needed more. He just has to work with his doctor.
@@mbyrd6713 it’s nasty stuff. I wouldn’t trust a doctor. They don’t have an incentive to keep you from getting hooked

I hope for his swift recovery
With brain damage this guy needs to make sure he gets proper mental care. I've been there. Get diagnosed if you have anything, because it can affect your behavior immensely without the patient even noticing. Frontal lobe syndrome is a pain to deal with, for example. A traumatic brain injury can have many consequences. And they can be treated.
Even decades down the road...
@@anyamuenchgrieser8686 yes decades, I broke all the bones in my foot but to. That was in 1988. They put my foot in a cast. Dr. told me i would have problems with it the rest of my life. 36 years later I do have problems. Went to a knee DR. today.
Get all you can get. You will have problems. If you can prove it was neglect, get all you can. I did not, Do not think they will take care of you along the way. In 20 years nobody will even know you got hurt. Take to a lawyer. Sue everyone you can. Get it now. I was just a few years older then you. You are go to hurt years down the road.
Buried alive? Talk about one of the biggest fears! Hopefully his surgeries go well and he gets something in a settlement.

This is a crazy story! Thank God he’s alive! But yes call a lawyer like yesterday!
Now….I’m a doctor. This man had pain and may have chronic pain that my require opioids. Let’s not shame him. Thank God he is alive.
They are not shaming him, and if you are a doctor then you would realize that narcotics are not meant for chronic pain!!
@@bettysmith4527 as a nurse I can tell you you're wrong again Betty. Keep using your essential oils but some situations require a complex pain regimen that involves narcotics
Fake
@@codys5727 I disagree, also as a nurse, and truly believe narcotics are way overused and should not at all be used for chronic pain! People who want them for chronic pain are addicted to them!! Read about the fact that chronic use of narcotics CAUSES more pain instead of improving it!
@@bettysmith4527 I'm glad you used the term believe. I use facts not my beliefs. Opioids are overused but doesn't mean there isn't benefit from them. Narcotic abuse, dependency and addiction are a sign of other problems in the life of the user, not the cause. They can be a weapon or a tool, just like a hammer or firearm
Poor chap.
Bless him & his family
This call is going to become evidence in the case of him saying he doesn't need the money.
.... and he's ok
not enough details to prove it’s him
Money--We have to have it; everybody needs money! So he does need the money. You never not need money.
It doesn't seem realistic that the guy would be able to go back to work 100% the same as before. He should see what other options he might have work wise or use the settlement for early retirement planning.
Forgot about calling Dave. Call a lawyer.
Um, I would venture to guess he already did, since he says this during the call!
I never heard him mention he has lawyers working on his case. He should have lawyers waiting in line take his case.

John should not shame someone who may have chronic pain from using prescribed opioids. The majority of patients prescribed opioids never abuse them or become addicted. Those who do often have other social issues such as loneliness or feeling a lack of purpose that contribute to addiction. John clearly has a narrow view of opioids (likely a moralistic one) and pretends to be a mental health provider when his degrees are in education.
Literally the number one reason people abuse opioids is because they had an accident… that’s why we have thing big of an issue.

Omg the title... I have been watching The John Deloney Show and seriously was taking the title in a literal way. I was like wow that’s going to be a crazy one.
The title implies being in a coffin, mistakenly placed below the sod. SHOULD have said something more along the lines of "I was in a construction accident..."
That wouldn’t bring in as much views…. It’s a business game. Get with it.
Yep!!!
I thought "buried alive" was referring to debt, especially on this channel.
First time on yt?
@@joshlecher4935 lol
I know it was horrible, but reading the video title, I chuckled.
Glad I wasn't the only one.
This was really good advice from Dave.
This is all about a good attorney and patience in my opinion. He’s probably going to have ongoing health issues for the rest of his life. Get a good settlement and invest it to get back 5-10 percent every year and work as long as you can and let that investment build.
I disagree, he might get enough to never have to work a day in life again
That’s always a possibility but he’s only 24. That is something I never would consider. I’m a workaholic myself. He’s going to lose about 35-40 percent typically to an attorney so it would have to be a really large amount. Also he’s married so she’s going to want to spend money if she’s anything like my ex was!! lol
YASSS let it build
@@edb484 Nope, if he can walk and talk, he is considered "whole". Only life long care situations get the big payouts.
@@bbkyjohnson He will lose 50% plus attorneys fees. Most/ not all lawyers go to 50% when they file a motion to sue and set a court date which they must do in order to get the attention of the insurance company. Otherwise it is a bluff and NO insurance company will even answer your phone call.
If i was him, i would suit up for a big payday
Also dont call dave, this is not about bible or moral compass, sue as many as possible
Will not happen, he just admitted he is OK on national radio
@@alinatamashevich3354 he surely is no physical evaluator, he has reported severe injuries and that he is healing, in future he can anyday tow line that he didnt heal as expected and now cant work as he used to

Based on the title, I thought this guy was going to tell us that the doctors declared him dead and he was buried in a grave after his funeral and he climbed out😂
Well they actually lock the casket with a special key (usually after the display at the funeral). So you would never be able to get yourself out.

Disagree with so much of this.
He will be making the same amount of money, so no big deal? what about the long term affects? What about never feeling like a young man again? What about pain and suffering, and diminshed abilities that he hasn't even noticed yet? What about causing the employer enough pain ($$) that they never make the mistake that led to his injuries again?
The point is *not* just to makd him whole, especially when they don't even know what "whole" entails since they're not doctors. They are definitely speaking like business owners.
Work to get what you NEED not just take all you can get.

Wrong person to call. Lawyer up!
Rotator cuff surgery changes you. You will suffer a lot of pain even after surgery that will impact your ability to push, pull and lift heavy objects. Be aware of that when thinking of future work plans
What a weird reaction to that Percocet comment…Is Dave’s co-host a recovering addict or something?
Counselor who has encountered them and aware of the possibilities.
Don't be absurd, Delony. He CAN'T predict "never". This is the problem with immature binary views of issues. Percocet is HIGHLY necessary for people in pain. The fact that idiots abuse the drug or that unfortunately some people become easily addicted SHOULD NOT mean people who ACTUALLY DO NEED it, be deprived of it.
He irritates me sometimes. So arrogant. He is basically arguing with the guy about a medical issue when he knows nothing.
Agree. His remark was so judgmental and arrogant. Why doesn’t he go thru surgery and do it without pain meds? The fact the man is already off the meds certainly does not indicate addiction. His remark really irritated me. Arrogant.
BINGO!
But will he be sympathetic to a jury?
Haha, if I was the defendant's attorney I'd be throwing settlement offers at him with both hands.
So part of the WC claim would be $ for partial permanent disability. The third party settlement is different/separate.
Those are hard to get unless you cannot perform basic life functions. If he can walk and talk and go to the store, he will not get very much.
He's 24. He can recover, but develop arthritis and lots of other issues down the road.
He might be talking about a 3rd party settlement with the owner of the building / or another contractor at the work site, as opposed to his employer's worker compensation insurance. They aren't the same, and they operate under different rules, depending on what state he lives in.
I've seen 3rd party cases take up to 20 years to finalize. He could finalize the 3rd party suit, and still keep his worker's comp claim open. FYI, his worker's comp insurance company may be entitled to part of his 3rd party settlement.
So, yes, he's better off waiting until the $ is in hand, then putting it into a Roth IRA for his future. Since you can have your kids inherit a Roth IRA, (if you don't use it all up), then that protects his daughter's future, too.
Dave didnt mention that he may have to repay the workers comp when he gets the settlement…
0:35 'I was buried alive' Dave 'Hmm' 🤣
No disrespect, but when I first clicked on this I literally though it was going to be about someone who was buried in a grave while alive.
Uh.... what?
Total horeshit. It's taking years off his life and lower quality of life in the meantime. He absolutely should get enough to have more material comforts and security for his family for compensation due to negligence.
What if the company he was working for is found negligent? He said he is union and cannot sue the company he works for.
Sorry to tell you, if he can walk and talk he is out of luck. The insurance company is filming him 24/7, and he called a national radio station and said he was doing well. They will request his cell phone records. Insurance will spend tens of thousands to get out of paying a claim.
His story is giving me anxiety. This is horrible
This is a very risky one. Injuries tend to manifest themselves later on in life. You just don’t know if there will be some effect from this accident later on.
7:04 that is absolutely spot on.
Hey Dave my brother tried to use one of your suggested home loans you sponsor. They tried to get them to do a balloon 🎈 mortgage. I thought you say fixed only 15 or 30 years.

This question feels very cart before horsish. IMO.
Not sure I would call a national radio show and talk about future litigation publicly. I don’t think he said anything that would shoot him in the foot, but anything said on there could impact the settlement.
I'm glad to see in the comments that I'm far from the only one who thought this was going to be about a dude who was mistakenly pronounced dead and woke up in grave! I never thought Dave Ramsey would resort to clickbait titles! 😂😂😂

This is a clip from a live broadcast...
When I read the title i thought what in the 1245 AD is happening?
Let’s not minimize the mental health impact of such an accident. While he may be physically able to return to work he may have flashbacks or fears.
It sounds like he thinks he's going to get a settlement right away. It takes years for a settlement to be agreed upon. They're certainly not going to settle while he's still in treatment.
It will take a long time to get any money.
I passed sand piper to another firm. Cause it was taking too long.
Best Wishes for the caller
You didnt even know what was coming in the future. Now u do 😂😂😂
I really didn't get the point of this guy's question. Is he hoping to get a windfall from his employers and then continue working for them??
Nope, they will fire him or he will have to resign or the check is no good. Cannot have both, he is a huge liability waiting to happen on their clock
NOOOOO!!!! There is pain and suffering SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He needs an attorney, not financial advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope the construction company has good insurance.
Work to get what you NEED not just take all you can get.
Caller: I was buried alive at a construction site.
Deloney: Are you safe?
Why can't you sue your employer?
Well this is new
He shouldn’t be paying any med bills. I’d be suing and having the company pay
Any money should be kept for later in life, invested, etc.. The injuries this guy had might effect him later in life and he has no idea. I would also not settle that easy, and go for long term medical, or even life long medical, aside from monetary compensation. The money is basically for pain/suffering, the life long medical is for long term unforeseeable needs. The guy is wanting to settle it all too quickly. This situation needs a better strategy.
That HEADLINE!!!
I thought he was gonna say he was buried alive and pronounced dead and was about to receive his own life insurance policy. If that’s the case I was curious as to how I could do it.
i mean i buy a house paid off. invest the rest. and then when you cant work, you have a paid off hosue and money form investing.
Why does Dave interrupt everyone or talk over them
Because he's trying to move things along when they aren't sticking to the topic at hand.
The one thing that bothers me in this is Dr. John's insistence that this man who is clearly thrilled he's weaned off of Percocet to Tylenol is "Never going back." There are many, many people who, due to their experiences or, more likely, body's chemistry and reaction to medication, become addicted or begin to crave stronger painkillers. Many, many people, though, don't crave any kind of painkillers unless they are in pain, and are perfectly happy not to take the medication as soon as they're not hurting. INSISTING that this guy "never go back" to a medication that was, for him, utilitarian following the pain of a grave injury, is quite presumptuous about the efficacious use of medications and the man speaking.
Dude no one is going to call you and offer you 1M. You need to have some representation from an attorney to get the ball rolling.
The title is clickbait but I guess it worked.
It's part of the game just like the news headlines. It's about what gets the views/watchers
Call a lawyer
How does anyone get a settlement from worker's comp? I was told it wasnt possible beyond what workers comp payments would be. I broke my back at work and only got $175 a week while I was out of work as well as medical bills, but that's it. No lawyer would take the case case there's no money in it.
Only "IF" you would be permanently disabled , unable to perform basic life functions. Those are rare and require years of litigation
Why not call a lawyer?
He has one. He said he did at least.
Wow, after this call he can kiss that settlement goodbye
Disability and he is getting only $100 less? I am in the same situation and I ge 1/3 less in my check! I am out $1,300 less!! Dont understand that!
The benefits are not taxed! So 2/3 would be close to 100%
What!?
3 months is too soon to settle.
