    we usually cook the periwinkle abit before adding to soups, I guess it helps to kill any worm/dirts still trapped inside the shell. the water is poured n the periwinkle washed before making appearance in the pot of soup. i am Akwaibom

      As I was watching, I remembered my immediate younger sister taught me how to make banga soup for the first time from scratch, and she died this year .
      I felt so sad

    Please next time put your periwinkles in a bigger container to be able to watch it properly. Secondly, cook the periwinkles separate and remove the white foams that forms on top and remnant of diets, pick them with your hands into the soup don't pour it inside bc of some of the broken shells, then add it to your soup. Pour away the water.

    This method is new. The way mum thought us how to prepare banga atama soup is after extraction of the palm kernel oil juice.
    You put it to boil first before adding your ingredients not ingredients first before the banga juice but nice all the same. Hope it taste the same way with this method.

      I don't think there's a substitute for Atama leaf. It's aroma and taste is what makes abak soup.

    Weldone mam you have done well, but when you are adding your atama you don't turn it you allow it boil probably b4 turning to avoid biiters thanks.

    is there a way i cannot have to go through the process of extracting the juice from the fresh palm fruits and just use palm oil instead?

      Palm oil will not do it. They sell ready-made palm juice now, you can use that instead.

      No, atama is not Banga soup, it's a leave added to the Banga soup that gives it a unique taste.
      Also you can cook atama with water leaf. It tastes amazing too.

    We Calabars will not cook banga soup without dry fish, stockfish, meat, etc it is the dry fish and stockfish that will give what you want. Even if you miss any other thing, you shouldn't miss dryfish

    Always boil the Kpomo separate and throw away the water of the Kpomo bc most times it smells and the smell can spoil your soup.
