    I think the people who complain by saying, "you can't make a call at that time. Let the players decide the game" forget the fact that the players DID decide it. Aaliyah did not even really need to do a pick for the play to work, yet she did and cost a potential game winner from happening.

    People don’t understand… yes it was a foul. Was is a completely obvious foul? Not really, but it was one. The reason I’m complaining is because they let both teams do this the whole game when they were screening and they didn’t call anything. But now all of the sudden when it’s coming down to one possession for the game they decide to call it? That’s my complaint. If you’re going to call it fine. But be consistent with it by setting the tone early.

    It's an easy call....foul. And most people are overlooking the clearest pieces of evidence. First, basketball players are only entitled to "their space". Second, a complementary notion is the concept of "verticality". Go to the moment of contact between the screener and defender and pause the video. I want you to notice the screener's legs and feet. If there's contact because the screener's feet are outside the width of the shoulders, that's a foul. Second, check if the screener's legs are balanced. If the legs aren't balanced then the player's frame is leaning outside of her space...so the player isn't vertical either. The UConn player violates both of these concepts. By contrast, check out Caitlin Clark's "The Shot" against Indiana where the screener (#25 Monica Cziano) sets not only one but two strong, textbook screens on the game-winning shot.

    I think the move of Paige Bueckers around the Aaliyah Edwards was not the presetting pattern during the timeout.
    I feel Aaliyah Edwards was in little a hurry to set a screen to tackle the gabbie’s fight-though for Paige.
    That’s why Aaliyah was a little bit late to set a clean screen and she was inevitably moving toward gabbie one more time after the screen set.
    As you said so, I wonder if Paige Bueckers was more aggressive to try penetrating directly into the rim to get a pass from Nika. Only 2pts deficit and it could’ve get a chance of foul from Iowa.

    I am convinced that the NCAA wanted Caitlin in the championship game and the referees were part of getting them there. The only way UConn could have won that game would have been to totally dominate Iowa. With a short bench, UConn just didn't have the player resources on the court to maintain the pressure they had in the first quarter.

    • @Roadkill515
      @Roadkill515 5 месяцев назад

      Take off the tinfoil hat. Of course NCAA hoped for SC vs Iowa. The ratings are going to be record setting. If the refs were trying to ensure an Iowa win they would have called a much tighter game from the start and they didn't.

  • @VecksJanae
    @VecksJanae 5 месяцев назад

    This is so incorrect. When UConn was up 12 the refs tarting calling the game completely different because they didn’t want UConn to extend their lead. UConn also had the momentum on both sides of the basketball. The refs called fouls on Nika, KK, and Aaliyah consecutively this completely changed UConn’s aggressiveness and allowed Iowa to put points up front the line while the clock was stopped. In basketball momentum is everything and UConn never got the momentum they had when they pushed it out to a 12 point lead for the rest of the game. The refs purposely kept Iowa attached. So that’s why the last foul call on Edwards is telling. Like Geno said Iowa set questionable screens throughout the game too and fouled UConn multiple times with no call. Just rewatch the game, why did the whistle change when Iowa started losing as opposed to when it was back and forth at the beginning. They clearly wanted Caitlin in the title game. There’s no other explanation. I do agree Paige should of been way more aggressive offensively in the fourth quarter but it’s a testament to the mistake UConn has made playing her so much out of position all season. At times she loses the awareness that’s she’s the point guard because of how much she has had to share ball handeling duties with KK and Nika. Paige like Hannah, Juju, and Caitlin need the ball in their hands to be at their complete yes Paige is good off ball but she isn’t a shooting guard. Azzi Fudd for instance is better off ball than she is with the ball in her hands which is why Geno paired them together, their game’s compliment each other like Steph’s and Klay’s. Paige to me is most confident when her ability to set up her teammates can be most utilized. She’s also more difficult to defend when you don’t know if she’s going to pass or score. Geno should of moved her completely back to point guard once the tournament started. Nika and KK’s inability throughout the season to consistently score off ball gave Geno no choice. Her numbers being played so out of position imo speaks to how good she really is. I don’t think Juju, Caitlin, or Hannah could play as many positions as Paige and be as effective as she’s been. Maybe juju. But definitely not Caitlin or Hannah. This game also exposed Caitlinnit really having much of an offensive bag outside of the stepback threes and layups.
    Caitlin had no midrange game,
    no post up game, no floaters,
    or fadeaways. Which is why it’s laughable people don’t think WNBA teams will be able to defend her. All Geno did was force her right the entire game. Same thing he did with Juju by forcing her left. That’s why Paige not being aggressive is troubling. Paige is pretty good at everything so defenses can’t really take anything away from her. Paige stops herself.
    I will say, I thought UConn and Iowa were just playing for the opportunity to lose to SC. They just have more players than everyone else right now.
    UConn being a possession or two away from the national championship and in my opinion eye test wise they were still the more talented team outta them and Iowa once they get healthy and add Sarah Strong. I don’t see them not in the title game next year. Azzi and Paige both tho have to be healthy finally at the same time. If they are with everything else around them UConn is gonna be tough. Definitely preseason Top 2,

    Letter of the law it was the right call. Spirit of the game and precedent, I have never seen that call in 40 years of watching basketball on any level.
    That was absolute hot garbage. Almost as bad for Iowa. Especially Hannah Stulke. Had the performance of her life in Tournament play and you barely heard her name being mentioned.
    On Hail Marys, box outs on key possessions, and inbounds plays there are TONS of "rules" being stretched. You play through it, unless someone falls or there's BLOOD.
    Illegal screens are just part of important inbounds plays, hence the term "Fight through the screen". No need to fight if the guy is completely stationary.

    • @Jwied1
      @Jwied1 5 месяцев назад

      A good screen the ball handler runs right next to the shoulder of the screener so the defender has to go inside or "fight through" the screen. No moving is necessary to set a good screen. Edwards jumped into the screen which is a foul and was leaning which is also a foul.
