It's crazy, they had his English voice actor record all the grunts and groans that would've been used in the battle against him, but the localization team decided to use all the original audio recorded from the Japanese voice actor.
Then comes Star Fox 64 3D, where the English grunts, groans, laughter and screams (provided not by Rick May, but by David Frederick White) are actually used. Though of course, the late, great Daisuke Gōri's takes can't be topped.
I wished they had used the original Japanese actor once more in this case. It's not as terrifying as the one from the original 64, but after hearing his infamous 'Ha Ha Hah!' Almost anything would've been better.
This game needs to be modded to put those back in. It always bothered me since I found it out that they kept the JP audio there. And now, getting to listen to these is really cool. If the source code could be leaked and ported to PC we could even get the uncompressed audio and music in it!

I remember as a kid I was so focused on wanting to find and beat Andross then when he made the tin cans remark I lost composure and lol'd even during the fight 😂, dying twice.
I think it works better than him having a normal voice in the remastered version. Like the normal version might work before he did all the shit to himself to become a giant brain, but yeah. He's become a giant brain and this voice makes a lot of sense when you find that out.
The first take is clearly him pumping himself up and sounding confident; like he practiced in a mirror, flexing and trying to sound tough, delivering the line perfect after thirty tries. The second one sounds kinda defensive and insecure; like he was busy with something else, and someone organically asked him "Hey Andross, you _sure_ you want to fight Star Fox?" and he got annoyed and gave an answer off the top of his head. That's my take, anyway.
The voice talent in this game was and still is one of the best of all time. The timbre, the intensity, the emotions, the diversity of the casting. Absolutely brilliant in every way. Truly a legendry game.
