I come back to this video every time I need to bind a quilt. Such a clear and easy to follow tutorial with tons of useful tips. Thank you for putting this together!
Thank you Emily! I followed your glue baste method and successfully sewed the binding down by machine. I usually hand stitch but want to make some charity quilts and so the binding needs to be machine seen. Love your channel ❤.
Love the video, Emily. This is the first time I've watched your RUclips channel. It was great, and it helped me out as I forgot how to do the binding on the edges. Your so lovely and easy to watch. Thank you again. Kim xx
Great tip on joining the ends - I used it tonight and that’s my new favorite method! Thanks for the other tips also, re: stay stitching perimeter of quilt pre-binding.👍
I’ve looked quite a few lovely videos on bindings and felt it was rushed and shows end long. Found your video gives viewers more time to process and understand clearer. Thank you. I’ve made first quilt and wishes have seen this first! Now know for next time. 😊
I like to serge my quilts too. While I've serged quilt sandwich you can use a narrow seam just to sew the top to keep it neat until quilt assembly time.
I'm new to quilting so this video was great. I would love to see how you hand sew the binding as the quilts I'm making are special for my kids and I want to do some hand sewing on them. Thanks.
I’ve never found the need to glue it in place for hand sewing - I just pinch with my fingers the spot that I’m working on or use clips to hold it temporarily. One downside of glue that I can think of is that you’ll have less space inside the binding to hide your threads when you start a new piece of thread.
Great question!! My machine has 2 thread spool holders but I also love using a cone of thread, which sits next to my machine on a separate thread holder. I like the cones because they last forever!
Hi Prima! If your quilt edges are straight (not curved or scalloped edges) you can do the strips straight on grain! I use 2.5" strips for mine. If your quilt has curved edges you'll need to cut it on the bias though.
Binding is always the hardest part of quilt making for me. Lots of tips I can use. Anxious to try soon. Thanks.

I’m so glad this is helpful for you! It took me a few quilts to really get comfortable with the binding 😅

Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful job!
One question: can you use tacky glue and still hand bind? I just wondered if it gets too stiff

Really helpful video. But I’m so confused I can see where you put the cinnamon roll binding but where is your top thread????

Homemade Emily Jane thank you for the reply. I’ll look into that. 🙏
Love your tutorial 🪡❤️. What kind of machine are you sewing on??
I use Husqvarna machines 💙
The binding is just 2 inch strips not cut on the bias?

Do you open the seams out in all the binding joins, or just the last one?
I like all the seams pressed open to reduce any bulk from the seams
Joining that binding... err-time it’s a crapshoot 🤪😁✂️🧵❤️
UGH I KNOW! But thankfully we can test it without actually having to sew it in place
